2010 Ignition Option
I have searched the forum and had several answers but no clear direction on an affordable and reliable upgraded ignition system to near 600hp, 30psi, with a wastespark ECU, Power FC:
In 2003 the recommendation was 1xMSD 6al and 1xFC lead coil
in 2004 the recommendation was 3xMSD 6al and 2x8207 MSD coils and 1x8204 MSD motorbike coil
in 2006 the recommendation was 1xMSD 6al and 1XMSD DIS-2 with above MSD coils
then there is the recommendations for mercury marine coils, LS1 coils, twin power, etc., which cn become rather expensive. The twin power does not seem to enough at 30psi.
From what I can see the solution will involve either 3xMSD 6als or 1xMSD 6al and a DIS-2, what do you recommend?
As far as coils we know the FC leading coil works but what about the trailing, or is the MSD 8204 and 8207 worth the investment...
Finally, did I miss a new option, excluding the rather expensive M&W, 500r systems?
I must call out Crispeed and Anthony to comment please..

i've been using ls1 coils for the past two years. only got about 12k miles on them though. so far not a single problem. im using the car style msd ones(forgot what part number they were) for leading and stock truck ones for trailing. of course with a microtech lt10s.

I currently have an MSD Digital 6 for the leading and a DIS-2 for the trailing I'm trying to sell. I bought them with the exact same goals. I was going to try them on stock TII coils, and if not then upgrade to MSD coils. As far as wasted spark setup, it's pretty solid.

i ran 30.5 psi yesterday on 93 octane and meth AI w no problems whatsoever.
i have two Jacobs FC3000 amps. one for each leading plug. located in driver's side bin behind seat. each amp drives a MSD 8253 coil. magnecore 10 mm wires. NGK 6725 plug 10.5 heat range.
one of the nice features of the FC3000 is that it doesn't put out full power when you are just tooling around. this feature adds service life to the $33 spark plugs that are required to run
500+ rwSAEhp.
trail has no amps and uses MSD 8207 coils w same wires and plugs as lead.
10.1 AFR.

I like Jacobs, it has been in my car for 8 years and no problems until now. Surprising that you have no amp on the trailing, that saves some money for sure. Can the FC3000 work with splitting the PFC signal?

Well the process of elimination starts with the answers for the following questions:
1. Do the leading plugs require individual coils for 600hp, Crispeed did not use two, but seems everyone else does.
2. Do the trailing plugs require an amp, if yes then I think the cost effective option is a DIS-2, or DIS-4, or 2xMSD. I understand the DIS-2 might not work well due to the split between front and back, but I can't see why if the can't handle the trailings alone.
3. Last question, are the TII coils as good as MSD, Mecury or LS1 coils, if yes then they are clearly the way the go.

I don't know the limits but, the Fc coils (for how old they are) are very robust. They seem to handle ignition amps very well. Their just so huge you gotta get really creative in mounting them in the Fd. I'm getting ready to wire some in on the leading to see the spark difference with my Ls1's. I'm just gonna use my Fd's igniter. I bought a complete set a couple years back but never got a chance to hook them up. I was told the LS1's were an easier install with my Haltech (which was true). Now that I'm getting more familiar with this sort of thing, I'm gonna give the Fc coils a shot. I really want a coil that I can add an amp too when I need the power. I can't do that with the Ls1's.

If you want the best, then M&W is your answer. Hands down, there is no better. You will pay for it though so if your looking for the economical way out, this isn't it. Their coils and cdi combo will lite water lol...
