15,000 miles on twin T04s.. daily driver

18,000 hits on Jason's twins thread

i have another big number for you... 5000 miles.

seems like there is interest in (real) twin turbo systems...

mine has been running for 3 (wisconsin) summers. i have 5000 miles on it and it is my daily driver. i drive it up to my lake home ( 250 miles each way) without a thought. most of the time my windsurfer is on the roof.

it runs like a pussycat and yet has 82 lbs/min worth of compressors on it. two 3 inch downpipes. internal wastegates.

talking w Ari Yellen a couple of weeks ago about it he said. "that ought to have huge top end." coming from Ari the comment was flattering.

and accurate.

i have had 5 sets of turbos on the car. a number of "turbo" people have helped out and we all have learned alot in the process.

Thanks especially to Kevin Draper @ Majestic Turbo

i currently log fuel pressure, 2 egts (thanks Jeff), exhaust manifold pressure as well as all the usual stuff. if you aren't logging the above you are wandering in the wilderness.

i will have it on the dyno before the snow flies and will be happy to share the numbers.

the design objective is PUMP GAS and approx ONE BAR. i am not interested in what it will do at anything above 17 psi. the turbos are happiest at that level and 82 lbs/minute is more than enough to keep on the road... BTW road racing is my game.

thanks to Kevin Wyum who gave me the initial idea. com'on Kev, get it together.

come say hello and see the car, along with the Cool Loovers at the Midwest Rotary Rally at Road America aug 19-21.

Link: https://www.rx7club.com/midwest-rotary-rendezvous-archive-261/if-you-midwest-youd-better-plan-05-mrr-448371/

Here’s the view most see of my car, notice the license plate..

the engine bay, can you find the second turbo?

I won’t be posting anything further on my twins until I have a dyno sheet. Too many people have put out too much advance twins hype only to disappear.

The concept is valid and a winner.

See you at the MRR?

Very nice!!!! Not that I'm surprised to see something like this from you. You were giving me information since I first joined up. Thanks a million for that and your car looks great! Can't wait to see the dyno sheet.

ive always liked the idea of twin t04's on a 13b as well howard i can remember kevin wyum's black car with the big twins and bridge port from back in the days, ive harassed him on the phone manny times about his set-up. im still waiting for him to get tired of that audi and get back to working on the FD. glad to see the idea lives on. good luck on the dyno.

Very nice to see a Twin setup that works. Right after my recent twin turbo failure that's still in my car .

For now i'm done with the idea and going single, but your setup seems to be something i might wanna do in the future.

Very curiouse to see what kinda numbers this kit can make on pump gas around 1 Bar

Howard, tried the FB/Start Duty cycles, thanks for toasting my clutch LOL. I hit 1.85 bar with a setting of 1.3 bar, and the duty cycly backed off like we talked about. Once I get a clutch watch out. I ended up with a ~40% duty cycle(vs 70) with those settings, but had to turn everything way down due to the clutch. I should have a new clutch next week from ACT. I'll call you re tires etc. Since the clutch would not hold, I don't have good numbers for the AVCR settings, but I will in the next two weeks, or as soon as my clutch is in. Good job, and I really enjoy our conversations. BTW, water temp is now down to 200, and oil is 210(ten more to go) those are at the filter, and the thermostat, after 20+ minutes at ~15-20 psi. Carl

Howard, how is the responsivness & low end? Is it set up sequentially? Where did you buy the set-up, or is it a custom fab?

see thread "80% pump....20% methanol" page 12 post 168 for recent metrics.

lots of improvements for 06, 10,000 miles logged and making tq/hp right on the money.

ignition amps out for service, will be back testing in 10 days.

stay tuned,

howard coleman

I really wanna attempt this kind of set up on my car. Do you have any pics of your exhaust port.
