Questions about M2

I was wondering if they're still up and running because I want to buy their cf intake and can't get a hold of them. Has anyone heard anything or know how to get a hold of them.

I think they are out of buisness, but I'm not 100% sure. the boxes come up for sale often in the for-sale section. I would try there.

They are kaput, and that intake is more eye candy than anything IMO. Get some hard pipes and some K&N filters and save yourself the cash.

The Intercooler is much more important----The turbo compresses and superheats the intake air anyway. If anything, look at increasing volume of intake air.

Where are ya in NJ?

Colder the air going into the compressor colder the air going out of it in addition to systemic efficiency issues. If it causes a volume restriction that does hurt, as Rich points out, depending on the level of restriction simple cone filters at the end of a tube may offset the volume issue enough over that intake to nulify the benefit of cold air. You shoud really look for a way to get both cold air and low restriction. To imply the intake air temperature doesn't matter would be misleading.

so I guess that means with my M2 Stage 2 ECU, to upgrade (should I get an intercooler) would be to get a separate computer? Or will the Stage 2 handle an upgraded intercooler?

(I have HKS intake, exhaust, and downpipe right now... )

I posted a spreadsheet that helps you calculate the effects of intake pressure (i.e. vacuum from restriction) and temp in this thread if you want to play with some numbers: https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/temperature-intake-air-285228/

I'm located at McGuire AFB near Mount Holly. The more I thought about it I realized have some filters and 1/8" alumanium lying around. So I'm going to build my own. After all intake temps are very important and I want my new BNR's to be as efficient as possible. Oh hey kevin are you originally from MN. Until I joined the AF I spent 18 years there and damn I could never find anything more than civics and integras. I love that damn state.

Try Rick's Rotary Performance aka RX-7 Fashion (925.484.2324) for their airboxes which are similar, and IIRC, are a little bit lower in profile than the M2's box and will clear aftermarket hoods.

P.S. I heard that Brian Richards sold M2's physical shop in Concord, CA., however, he retained the rights to the "M2" name and current inventory and will be basing the business in his home. As for current contact information, other than the e-maill address on the website, I have no idea.

Been living back in MN for about 15 years now : ). If all you could find were civics and integras to race you were going to the wrong places hehe. Actually the street scene went down hill in the mid 90's when the police started bringing helicopters and undercover police with pad and pencil, even video I've heard. We used to have plenty of 10 and 11 second cars driving from race spot to race spot on friday and saturday nights. That was a really good time. We'd race at Red Rock till 5am and never be bothered some nights.

I ordered the M2 intake from rx7store.net about a year and a half ago and to put it quite bluntly, it was a piece of crap. Needless to say, I sent it back. The surface of the box was highly irregular. The rear of the box, where all of the pipes attach, is an aluminum plate with sections of pipe welded on. The plate was distorted from the welding process and the pipes still had the ink markings on them (as if the pipes had been purchased at the local hardware store). My advice is to modify the stock air box or get one of the aforementioned cold air boxes or intake kits.

I switched from the apexi intakes (open) to the M2 box.

I noticed NO difference in intake temps. I was pretty dissapointed. In fact I think the box just adds restriction to the flow and that's about it.

I'm mostly looking for a little water protection. after all it rains alot here in the winter and it is my only car. The intake port on the side seemed like it would work well. I'm just trying to avoid open filters at all costs.

You'll be fine. Between my father and I we have run open intakes for years here with no problems at all. Plus, a good bud has a vented hood, and although he lives in Texas, his FD is *not* garaged and his his daily driver, and with open intakes he has never had a problem. So, there is no reason whatsoever to avoid open filters, unless you are trying to either throw cash away or hurt your hp levels
