Bung of Fd for Wideband

How would I go about installing a bunge for a wideband on my downpipe? Do I buy the female adapter with the correct NPT and weld it? I know enough welders to do it, thats why I ask, I plan to put it on the bottom as well so its easy access. If there is another way, that would be better for w/e reason let me know. Should I also ask where I plan to go dyno how they measure AFRs? I was planning to anyways.

First of all, you need to have a wideband controller such as the Innovative LM-1, which I have. It has a feature to put out a signal to the ecu so you don't need the stock sensor. I just put my wideband sensor in the original bung because my particular controller has this feature. If you choose a different setup that requires both the stock sensor and the wideband, you just weld an o2 bung between 9 and 3 o'clock. DO NOT put it facing down, that way water condenses on it and can damage it, according to the manual that came with my kit.

No no, Im sorry if I wasnt clear, this is for when I go dyno my car so I can get AFR readings.

when you goto a dyno they should have a tailpipe sniffer, they will just slip it in your tip.

How do you have your LM1 unit itself mounted in the interior? Any pics? I've just got one too and am trying to figure something out, kinda hard since its kinda large and doesn't blend in with anything, lol. Thanks in advance.

From my understanding thats not the best place to read AFRs. Since I have a cat as well.

if its after the cat its going to read leaner, so you aire on the conservative side tuning like that.

I guess I'll just put it before the precat on one car (for testing) and at the bottome of the downpipe on mine. Now my question is do I cut and install a correct size female NPT adapter? or is there another way to go about this?

Sounds like you have the right idea... You can buy the bung here for $4.95. It's also a good idea to buy this to plug the hole when the sensor's not in.

See attached pic of my DP. The bung is positioned between 10 and 11 o'clock to allow easy install/removal with a 22mm open-ended wrench. I used a 1" bit to drill the hole for the bung. When choosing the sensor location, be sure it will clear the cat air-injection pipe.

I just stuffed it between the drivers seat and the center console because that's close to where the wires go through the firewall. It was supposed to be temporary but I've been too lazy to do a cleaner install. One day I'll get a gauge and mount the controller in one of the rear bins.

Does it matter where on the downpipe I put it. Ive seen countless threads that closer is better.

To extend sensor life you want to be as far away from the exhaust stream as possible, but for accuracy you want to be on the engine-side of the cat. That said, the ideal location is probably on the midpipe just before the cat, but since you may swap between a hi-flow cat and midpipe, etc, the DP location seems like a good compromise (allows tuning either way).

Well the plan was to put it before the pre-cat on a stock FD and a bit on the low side of the downpipe on my FD.
