Well right now it's leaned back A LOT lol. That's true though, I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to see if I can do some more fitting with it to see if I can lean it forward a bit more, but still keep it leaned back a good amount.

The seat gave me a full fist of head clearance when it was sitting on the floor, even without tilting the seat back.

But I'd like to slide it just a little bit further so I have more wheel-to-leg clearance and a little more distance from the pedals.

So we're going to remove the rear mounts and pound the floor flat and then use some plate steel to make some brackets.

We may or may not use the side mounts or bottom mounts.

Probably going to end up cutting a big chunk of the door panel off for seat clearance, with the secondary benefit of more elbow room.

There's no way I'll be able to use side bars without gutting the doors. I'm not even sure if a roll cage will even fit because of how wide the top of the seat is.

I thought the Sprint would fit since it fits in a Miata, and I thought that's what you had, but I just looked back and noticed the L. Is the Sprint L that much larger than a regular Sprint?

Yes. It's wider than an EVO3 in some dimensions.

Does anyone have good seat recommendations for a tall fat guy (6'2", 240) who wants to use the RX7 as a touring car? Don't really care about track days, so helmet is not an issue. Thanks.

The stock seat... anything with pronounced hip bolsters will need to be wide enough to fit your hip. Which means all sorts of fitment issues. If track days don't matter, the height of the shoulder belts doesn't really matter either.

On another topic, the door definitely doesn't close. So we're going to try using a heat gun on the door panel and try to mold it to the seat. If that doesn't work, it's getting cut.

My position is basically perfect now. I just need a longer steering spacer. I don't want to change the seat angle, since that would cause me to lose the precious headroom (a full fist!) I've got now.

The one problem with the Sprint L is that it probably won't give as much hold as a smaller, harder seat would. At least not without belts. It is absolutely positively the largest seat you could conceivably put in an FD (RHD, at least). Especially considering I removed tranny tunnel trim and will have to modify the door panel.

I'll try to get pics of the modified floor pan and bracket once they've been cleaned up and painted.

The Corbeau sportline evolution seats also fit : Evolution - Corbeau Racing Seats

However I'm 6ft3 and am really struggling for room with them! May have to do some fabrication to get them in a little lower/further back...

.

Do you have pics of this installed? You gain any head and legroom clearance?

Here are the floorpan mods. We chopped up a used Recaro seat rail and welded it together with some steel to make a fixed bracket (it currently has two positions, although the first position is too far back). At the rear we used a bolt welded to a bracket with another smaller bolt (to keep it from rotating) that comes up through the floor. I will clean up the rust eventually... The stock seat belt bracket also came from the used Recaro rails. It's been installed along with the eye bolt for the lap belt.

Here's the seat in place. If you want to use this particular seat without cutting up the door panel, you're going to need flat door panels.

This setup gives me a full fist of headroom.

Because the seat is so wide, the door panel will make a great knee rest. Haha.

If you want to use this seat for racing, you'll need to use pull-down harness. There's just no way to adjust pull-up lap belts easily.

Atomic Rex mount kit

Hey guys, tried the search function and didn't want to start another thread - - did anyone end up inheriting the design for atomic Rex's mounting set up?

This looks like it'd suit what I need. The alternative is the garagestar set up but I'd like to avoid paying 800 bucks by the time they're landed in Australia.

I'm using velo gpt-1's.
Open to other suggestions...

The seat has to be to the right a bit, against the tranny tunnel, otherwise the door is still somewhat difficult to close against the shoulder bolster. The rail kept the seat from leaning down too much, so it's leaned back quite a bit. The upside is it gives even more headroom with a helmet, I don't have to take the bottom cushion out. But I'd still rather not have it lean back that far.

So when are you going to send me your mounts?

I sell a universal base mount that you can use with aftermarket rails or side mounts.

Haha. I plan to but I keep forgetting and since I retired I haven't had much income haha. That and to avoid any further complications I thought about maybe bringing the seat down with the mounts so you can test fit them in person rather than guessing.

Will fit

1. Stock FD Seats (does this really need to be on the list?)
2. Recaros from the Spirt R
3. Gias Lowmax
4. Bride Zeta III
5. Bride Vios III lowmax
6. Mazdaspeed Type-F
7. Memoryfab s58
8. Corbeau - some models, they supply the custom racks.
9. Sparco Sprint V
10. Recaro Profi and or SPG ( with slight rubbing to the door but not much, if you use Recaro rails instead of bride it will fit fine)
11. Sparco Roadster
12. Sparco EVO with stock seat rail (shoulder bolster will rub on the door)
13. Sparco Milanos
14. Memory FAB S58
15. Tillett B6F XL 47 (which is the largest Tillett seat, meaning that they should all fit. Has a 30 degree layback angle, which is a little too much IMO. It will fit basically to the floor with the right rails. Probably the best option for REALLY big guys with long arms and short legs. Heavy and expensive, though.).
16. OMP HTE-R 400 (haven't bolted them in yet, but they easily fit sitting on the floor)

Will fit with modifications

1. Corbeau FX1 - fits with seat modification. Corbeau FX1 Install in FD
2. Sparco Evo 2 - - fits with seat modification.
3. Rx-8 seats (can be made to fit by modifying the racks)
4.Cobra Imola (with some minor triming of door side shoulder wing)
5. Sparco Torino 2 (modify the stock rails and get rid of the seat belt buckle they fit (barely))
6. Japanese knockoff of Sparco Pro Drive (shoulders hit the door and leg bolsters will probably rub on the console trim).
7. OMP HTE-R XL (halo would hit the window, both leg bolsters would need to be trimmed, shoulder bolsters seem to fit)
8. Cobra Suzuka Pro GT (only fits driver's side and only after trimming shoulder bolster and both leg bolsters. Non GT model needed for passenger side.)

Will NOT fit

1. Sparco Fighter

Pending pics
1. Sparco Torino (RecKleSs)

There are several seats listed for which their owners have not updated the list.

Momo Start, OMP WRC, Ultra Shield SM seat (some sizes), Ultra Shield Rally Sport (some sizes) are some of these, I think.
Can someone owning the Recaro SPG please confirm that they fit with stock interior?

I just compared some meassurements of other racing seats (Sparco and Sabelt for instance) and the Recaro SPGs, which where my favourites, are on the bigger side.. (Meassurements in millimeter)

For comparisson here the meassurements of the Sparco REV:

If you're looking for something local the only place I know of near me is Northstar Motorsports.
I sat in a Profi SPG there last weekend when I went to buy a helmet, and I'm a bit worried it's too skinny through the hips for me by millimeters. I'll have to look through everything again and see what my next best option is.

I picked up a Bride Vios III and rail on sale recently and like it a lot. It fits me perfect, but im like 5'10" and 145 lbs. I need a passenger seat now but I need something that will fit regular sized people. I do HDPEs and don't want to have to request instructors based on if they can fit in the car... I looking at something cheaper like a Cobra Monaco or Corbeau Forza. It sounds like they will fit easily but don't seem to popular around here.

Also, what people reuse stock sliders, what are they doing to mount the stock seatbelt receiver? The Bride rail had a spot to mount it. but I will have a hard time justifying a seat mount that costs as much as the seat.

Hate to bring back such a thread, but im 6'2 200lbs and about a 32 33 in waist, im on the built side. Im struggling to find a sit that fits me decent. Anyone with roughly the same build as me find a seat that fits with no modifications ( if its a seat that fits great i wouldnt mind trimming the shoulder bolster to fit)

I'm 6'3" about 230lbs and I've always had issues with my head touching the headliner in my Touring FD. I barely fit in the OMP HTE-R 400, but it fits both driver's and passenger side with no modification. The only thing is it has a halo so it might be difficult to see to either side unless you lean up a bit. Adam is modifying my mount for it right now, but I'm also working on some old stock seats. On the stock seats I removed the foam under the butt and in the lean like someone else did in this thread, and I had about 4" of space above my head. I took them to a local upholstery place and told them to put minimal foam in the butt and lean and they actually put too much foam back in both places with practically nothing to support the legs, so it's exactly what I didn't want. But I got the original foam back and I'm going to cut it myself and have them wrap those.

I think I'm going to make some seats out of aluminum based on the stock seat, but with more bolstering on the legs and sides and use the stock rails, and have the seat sink into the rails like the stock bottom does.

I have a set of bride gias on the RO rails in my car.

The shoulder hits the door slightly, the rails place the seats further towards the door than the factory rails, I had considered modifying the rails to move the seat back towards the centre, but the other problem that I am having is that the seat just isn't big enough. I am 6'0", 34" waist, 235lb and it's snug at the bottom, but I have broad shoulders just shy of 2ft or 60cm and so I am usually hunched forward.

I am trying to research other options and so far the Recardo Profi SPG, Sparco EVO II, IIUS or EVO III seem to be the go. Trying to compare the dimensions to the sprint-l as Valkyrie's recent post shows that this is the maximum seat that will fit, so the EVO III is out - also I was thinking It would not hug me

I also saw the post with the link to the universal mounts which I think is a good idea to keep the seat more central, I will most likely grab a set.
