gona rebuild engine-pros/cons of 79-84

im looking for a realy cheap 12a to start rebuilding and build up for my 84 gls so here are the questions i got--

wut are the pros-cons of a 79 compared to a 84 or 85

will the 5 speed trans bolt up to the 79?

any big changed in wiring for ingition and what not goin from an 84 to an 79?

i dont want to have confusing problems...after i build my engine up i want to have a nice smoot simple swap (thats y im goin with a 12a blow-through setup instead of a turrbo II

i thank all who help and dont bitch about searching!

The '79-80 exhaust ports are allegedly larger. This doesn't make a difference if you're porting.

The '79-80 engine has different a air injection port location, so you couldn't mate up your '84's emissions system. This doesn't make a difference if you're not going to use the stock emissions. (The '79-80 intake manifold is yards better than the '81-85 intake manifold, though... but you can't use it if you need to maintain the '84 emissions)

The '83-85 engines have much lighter rotors.

The engine blocks other than the air injection ports are interchangeable. Everything bolts up the same way. I did have problems putting the '80 A/C bracket on an '83 engine, so the location of the accessory studs/holes on the front cover and front housing *may* be different. It went on, but the pulleys weren't fully parallel with each other. Might have been able to work around that by changing locations of studs and bolts, but I was at the point of "fuckit" in the engine swap. (AKA it's 4pm and the shop closes in 2 hours and there's still stuff left to do)
