Pettit Racing

This is probably not just an FD discussion, but thought I'd start here.

I want to share with you my recent personal extremely positive experience with Pettit Racing.

I have a 94 FD that I had modified (see my signature for details) at a shop in Jacksonville FL. The shop took over 1 year to actually perform all of the work and in the end, totally messed up the car. Under WOT, the car bucked and would not perform.

After spending huge bucks and being very dissatisfied, I finally called up Pettit Racing in Lake Park FL. Cam, the owner of Pettit, took the time to listen to me and to answer my numerous (and probably stupid) questions. The end result is that I took the car to Pettit (they offered to have it picked up and trailered to the shop) and within two weeks, Cam had fixed all my problems and returned the car to the way it should be. Cam's knowledge with rotaries is unsurpassed and I now get 320 reliable RWHP (@ 12 PSI) that I don't have to worry about. When I brought the car to Cam, he dyno'd the car to get a base line (257 RWHP @ 12 PSI) and then backed up his "fixes" with a dyno run when I picked up the car. He also sepnt much time showing me what was previously wrong.

Thought I'd share this story with you to let you know of the quality work performed by Pettit. It's good to know that this level of service exists in today's world. Pettit wasn't the least expensive, but my experience is a lesson learned that value is much more than receiving the lowest price on a job.

Thanks Pettit!

Well, I couldn't even list all of the good experiences I've had with Cam and Pettit over the last 7 years. I have relied on Cam's advice to make a reliable and fast 7. I put my current motor (built by Pettit) in my 7, six years ago this month(Feb 22nd to be exact). I have followed Cam's suggestions on upgrades and parts and have even on several occasions been talked out of buying a go fast part by Cam in order to keep the car reliable. I am an instructor for the Audi Car Club of America as well as the Porsche Club of America and soon to be one for the BMW club of America. I have tracked the car for all 7 yrs I've owned the car and without Cam's help I would have sold the car off long ago. He knows what he's talking about and knows what it takes to keep a rotary alive. Kudos to him and his operation. I fully concur your experience with my own.

As for the Florida shop that hosed me, no need to post their name on the Net. This Jacksonville based shop recently went out of business so they can't harm anyone else.

The work performed by the above, not-to-be named shop was pretty extensive. I had my engine redone (fortunately by Pettit), turbos replaced, FMIC added, stand alone ECU added, clutch replaced, etc. All in all, it cost me $12K. Definately money NOT well spent.

Pettit came in and fixed the above mess. I now have a very well running car and am quite pleased.

I have had nothing but good experience with Petit. I have never bought anything new from them, but they were very willing to give me information about their products that I was buying secondhand from someone else.

One time, the parts I was buying were from a car that was being worked on there. Even though I was buying them from the car's owner, and not from Petit, they shipped them free of charge and also gave me some freebies in package.

Great guys!

P.S. As for the "hippie" thing with Cam, it might be a telling sign that one of his favorite exprerssions is "right on!".

For what its worth, if you had good experiences with Cam while he was in Fot Lauderdale but don't feel like driving up to the West Palm area, there's a place called Fast Import Cars that is run by a couple former Pettit-Ft Lauderdale guys. Having dealt with both shops, I can say you'll get treated pretty well whichever one you go to.

Visited their shop once while visiting the in-laws. Got a tour, some freebies and some of Cam and Candie's invaluable time just BS'ing. Great people. I highly recommend them.

The above wasn't all done by one shop. However, I would estimate about $18K for everything I've put into the car. This includes about $3K in parts no longer on the car.

VA Pettit

I want to add my thanks and appreciation to the guys at Pettit Racing and to Cam in particular. Originally I sent the same message to about 4 shops that I found on the net posing the same technical question. Pettit was the only one to provide an answer. Since then I have dealt with them exclusively. Even though I am not a high dollar customer, Cam has always taken the time to hear the problem and provide sound advise, all of which has proven to be right on the money. My thanks and gratitude to him and all the Pettit people.

I think David would suggest that everyone reading this thread also read the following "update". That is, if they have a weekend to spare.

I have never had a problem with pettit, and I have spent a considerable amount of money there. Somethings go awry here and there, but Cam has always fixed them, he knows what he is doing. At least that has been my experience.

If you are referring to me, this thread started many years ago was about my 2 rotor. Pettit did an amazing job for me then. As for my 3 rotor, not so good. Read the thread posted above about this.

I do have to say Cam is a standup guy and did provide what I asked for to make it right.
