Happy Friday to everyone.

How about we get a group buy going to get a lexan rear window while we wait on the rear deck to be made?

Any interest in this group buy?

Whoever keeps asking about one for the FC should stop. Most of the FC Hatch's weight is in the rear glass itself, replacing that alone with lexan would be enough.

It's a huge waste of money just to say "you have CF hatch"

The FD hatch is actually much bigger in proportion tot he glass, compared to the FC hatch, so it makes more sense to have it replaced and save 24lbs.

Carbonman on the forums (Maker of all the carbon fiber for the RX-7 SP in Australia) told me this...

The bare steel hatch weighs almost 31½Lb and the replica in Carbon Fibre weighs 7Lb.

Well, I will call Ken again tomorrow. I think it would honestly help if some of you other guys did the same. Ken told me a number of times he would make it. He said he just had to get caught back up. I will call him again tomorrow because the last time I talked to him was at the end of May.

I'd really like to take delivery of the wing GB first, then jump on the rear diffuser GB, then do this one last. Might as well get on the band wagon now.

Funny - we lighten the back, but then we add downforce.....

Weight has nothing to do with downforce. Lightening a car gives it better handing, acceleration, and stoping ability. Downforce gives you grip.

Not true in the purest sense- try running your FD with the gas tank nearly empty at Thunderhill and see how it behaves...(loop, loop, loop). You lose around 160 lbs of gas that provided 'downforce' due to gravity.

Adding weight to the back adds grip - it's just an inefficient way to add grip Agree that it is better to lighten car (goes faster due to less mass, easier on brakes due to less mass to stop, better handling due to less mass lateral transfer up to a point), but then we do need to turn around and counter the effects of the the weight loss by adding downforce via aero - the added downforce similutes adding weight without adding mass. I find the juxtiposition funny (I lighten it to nothing, then add areo to simulate that it grips like it weighs 8,000 pounds).

Hopefully that makes more sense - I like irony.
