FD3S: DRY Carbon Fiber OEM Rear Hatch

I have talked to Ken at Shine about doing this. I want a Rear Carbon Fiber OEM style Hatch. There are a few available (Seibon, VIS, RaceOnUSA) but they are made from wet carbon fiber so they will flex if you bolt a wing on it. Also the fitment of those hatches isn't that great. Ken said that he would make one if we had enough interest. He said that they would be around the $500 - $600 range and they would fit perfect. I am starting this thread to see if we have enough interest for him to make a mold.

ONLY put your name on this list if you are 100% in. I think we would need about 10 people that are 100% in to make this happen.

Ken, I can give you a deposit. I am sure that everyone on the list would have to give a small deposit to show that they are commited to buying this.

Just to clarify (because i'm curious), this hatch would be made of pre-preg carbon fiber, not the typical lay-the-cloth-out, slather-on-resin, squeegee it off method, correct?

I will let Ken answer this but I am pretty sure that is correct. He said it will be made using the same method as the carbon fiber FC doors that he is making.

I know that I want TWILL weave. He can probably do either just like his rear diffusors.

Interested, I know shine makes an excellent quality product, I had their FEED kit on my FD before, but I'd like to see some comparison weights and fitment pics. Dry Carbon is the way to go.

Is there a estimate of how much lighter the carbon fiber be over the stock one?

AFAIK there was a thread here from an Australian guy that was making them (and doors and other stuff) and said there would be about 11 Kg (24.2 lbs) of difference between the stock and his CF hatch.
Here's the link:

Hope this helps.

Bad time of the year money wise for me/most people but how can I miss out on a quality "DRY" carbon fiber hatch. I'll find a way. As long as the FD doors get delayed until at least February, I should be fine. 7 is lucky.

Looks like we only need about 3 more serious guys in on this. Remember, only add your name to the list if you are 100% IN. These hatches will be about the same price as the other but they will actually fit correctly instead of the garbage Seibon/Vis/RaceOnUsa hatches.

PS: HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!

Phil
