I guess I'm mistaken...and haven't got the memo.
I AM pretty sarcastic, no doubt.
After 8 years I thought I had a handle on how the show was run.

This is one of my favorite events of the year and I look forward to joining everyone again.
Special thanks to Bernie for his tireless efforts herding the cats and making this as rad as it is year after year.

Here's a few videos of the Happiest Place on Earth.
Those small group of guys 13 years ago realized that we had no place to go to feel good about our passion and addiction to rotaries.
We were the outcasts, the outlaws, the misfits. We would go to the Battle of the Imports in the early '90s, there would be 500 cars...and 25 Mazdas.
We would go to the SCCA and IMSA races of the '70s and '80s and you might get 5-10% Mazdas.
Every other race it seemed you'd have the Posche guys, the Datsun guys, and the V8 guys ganging up lobbying the sanctioning bodies to add more weight to us, take away porting and intake, doubling our displacement.
Yet we always found a way to beat the big guys.
The rotary community, racers, vendors, tuners all have one thing in common.
We eat, sleep, dream about rotary motors. We walk around Sevenstock and before noon we already dread the day is fleeting away...we already start thinking about the next year...it's so far away.
I don't think you V8 guys think at all like that, you care less about our craving to put together sweet spinning motors, wide open blasts through rotary wonderland.
Your solution is to stuff a torque monster lump in an RX chassis then go out to smoke a few 80 cubic inch small blocks...snickering.
Well that's not our style.
You don't have a clue about our "club"... generic rotor heads...how proud we are to have this rotary disease. You ain't got it...we're sick with it.
We daydream all day long making rotary noises in our heads, mental blasts of our next imaginary 13 b street port or Turbo...figuring how to afford a 20B and fitting it into our tight budgets. Someday!
You wonder why we don't appreciate V8s driving on in...cause you don't have our passion or addiction to our little world...leave us alone.

^ You are in incredible ...nevermind.... I'm stooping to your level and I can't.
This entire thread is giving everyone a bad name - rotary purists, swappers, everyone.
You always have to get in the last word, (and I'll let you here). And that is a classic case of someone who doesn't know when enough is enough.
You are single handedly making significant progress towards causing enough ruckus that will attract big attention and make Bern and the other organizers life hard - i.e. big sponsors don't want to sponsor an event that is fraught with issues.
Out of respect for the event, the organizers, the sponsors - DROP IT and don't get in the last word every time. Your a self proclaimed successful businessman - there are times when it is better to move along than to put up a public fight - and I firmly believe this is one of them.
YOU said you were done adding to this thread - and you ALONG WITH OTHERS just can't let it go.
Please folks - drop this fight for now? Find a way to organize next years event to make issues/concerns more clear if you feel its a big enough issue. This years event is set - and this years organizer has spoken. Time to look forward.
Can this thread be locked? I think that would be a great idea.

Can we get a mod in here to clean this thread up? We need to delete about three pages of garbage. This thread is suppsed to be about seven stock not about one NOOBs problems with other people.
And RB they never doubled the displacement. The engine code is 13b the displacement moved in one complete revolution of the E shaft is 2.6 liters (2 faces on both rotors). If you want to judge cars by half a revolution then a standered 350 is really a 2.8

AMEN!
If this RB RX7 person read as much as he said he does, he would realize this issue comes up EVERY YEAR, and EVERY YEAR poor Bernie has to deal with this ish.
Fact is aside from a few forum jockeys.............nobody cares! IMO I'd rather see an LSX swapped RX7 than yet another RX8.
Could we please move this nonsense to its own thread...LSX vs Rotary @ Sevenstock, let it be archived so people can make this fight next year, and the many years after, so I don't have to look at it anymore?
It makes the RX7 community look petty and we are not.

I can kind of see your point (up to a point), but I can see the swappers' points as well, to some degree.
I just can't quite see getting all that worked up about it, though. Maybe because I missed last year & didn't see the supposed drama, I dunno (was sidelined by my own drama).
I'm a Mazda and rotary loyalist (20+ years), but I currently daily a non-Mazda. Doing so doesn't make me feel guilty or disloyal, and I doubt Mazda was much disappointed either outside of missing the sale.
I'm personally not interested in doing an engine swap, but I just don't make the emotional leap that someone else is somehow necessarily insulting Mazda or me if they choose to do one, and are proud enough of their work to want to show it off. I don't assume that I can guess their motivations.
& you know, between the smog ***** here in Cali and Mazda's near-completely discontinued support for the parts I need to keep my car stock, running, and legal (try buying '80 Cali rotor housings, for example... NLA, like so may other parts for my build), some day I'm either eventually going to be forced to scrap my car, sell it out of state, or do SOME sort of swap, simply to be allowed to keep on driving it. Even second-hand parts have become rare, expensive... and all too often are worn past usefulness when you get them.
Either that, or I'll have to turn it into one of those cars that get trailered to meets and shows, but which can't be enjoyed like it's supposed to be, on the open road. &That's fine for people who like to do that, but for me, if I can't actually drive it around now and then, there's not much point in having it.
Day's coming fast for us first-genners that keeping one car original will require the regular scrapping of one or more others. That's a pretty bitter pill, but it's the facts of life. Nobody's making new parts for us, including Mazda. An intelligent business decision on their part, but it does show that their loyalty to us long-time rotary fans stops whenever the bottom line is impacted.
What's worse - Scrapping a classic sportscar because you can't get original parts, or swapping the power plant and keeping it running?
So part of me looks at a well-executed swapped build and says, "Hey, at least they've kept that RX7 on the road. It's not original, but it's still running and cared for. Pretty nice work, too."
Now, if someone theoretically wanted to just play "the fart in church" and went to all the trouble to do a swap, and show-prep their car, and get up at zero dark thirty to line up, and go to a gathering of this type, and then decided to make an *** of themselves by intentionally insulting people who don't believe as they do... well, I'd question their judgement on how best to invest their time, I guess, but their choices don't really affect me at all unless I choose to let them.
Or unless they steal MY parking space.
Anyway, that's how I see it. YMWV, naturally.

Sometimes the last word is called DISCUSSION

This is the slickest event you'll ever see, but there IS only 1 issue, and that's open hoods on V8s at our showcase event. How obvious does it need to be? Nothing wrong with any conversion, but for chrissakes this is ALL ROTARY , ALL THE TIME!
Out of respect for the event, the organizers, the sponsors - DROP IT and don't get in the last word every time. Your a self proclaimed successful businessman
YOU don't know how many times I've been up and down, all you know is I've been in the automotive industry for 40 years, not many people have gotten rich and kept it in this business. Remember "how to make a small fortune in racing?...start with a big one".
If I was successful in the car biz I wouldn't be on a Mazda forum now would I? I be on the Porsche, BMW, MBZ, exotic car sites.
I only lurked here for years for good info on the latest hot setups on rotary cars. I sure as h don't need to hear the noobs, and the bitchin and moaning by the rest of the aholes that chime in on threads like this.
I came here last year to sell a couple first gens I've had for a long time that I have to let go because of new "must buys".
YOU said you were done adding to this thread - and you ALONG WITH OTHERS just can't let it go.
At least he hasn't tried to kill the messanger...or said DROP IT, SHUT UP, CLOSE THIS THREAD,...MOMMY!

GUYS... please relax on the V8 issue. We welcome/tolerate V8 converted RXs, but we please ask all V8/Piston conversion owners that they respect SevenStock as a SHOWCASE and CELEBRATION of the ROTARY ENGINE, something that MAZDA supports and pays for. The So-Cal RX Club and the factory do not fancy folks telling others at the event how much the RE sucks... and how much more superior and smart they are/were for doing a swap... before anyone argues, it has happened... and they were talking to one of the top Mazda engineers.
Yes, there have been some V8 and RX guys with bad attitudes and issues in the past, including last year... but we hope that we can finally get over it this year. We are not lumping everyone together here... just letting you all know that there have been issues... and you like some have said, "it is your car and you can do anything you want to it"... there should be no issues or drama from my or anyone elses part... but please respect that this OUR event and party, and we can do and invite whoever we want, and there should be no drama or hurt feelings on anyone elses part either. At the moment we still welcome the conversions.
-Bern
Don't get is wrong.... SevenStock is all about the ROTARY ENGINE. It is a show dedicated to all things ROTARY! The SS name is brand now, but SevenStock is a 100% RE focused event.

Yes you spent all year making your 7 a perfect example of rotary pride. The last few days your worked 24/7 and ended up dehydrated and landed in the hospital on Saturday...how badly you must have felt, physically and emotionally. One long year, huh?
Bernie, I nominate David for the Courtyard.

I know of several RX3s and 1st gens with RX8 motors, they even use the fuel system and gas tank. How sweet would your car be if you took out the stock motor, stored it, and did a 9,000 rpm renesis swap! If I had a twin dizzy car I'd be storing that motor for the future gold mine it is.

The first time I took my Coupe (coup) to SS5 I spent the last 2 weeks detailing it like we all do. Well I got there a little late and just missed getting "inside". Lesson learned.
Well while walking around I complimented the guy with the white convertible, then he pops his hood to show me his pride and joy V8. Nice guy but not a rotary faithful.
As I've said the club guys would ask the V8 politely to close down their hoods. Only one I can say actually left, the others complied with no drama.
I waited til 2 pm when the parking area was opened again to come and go...but there's nothing like going to a Sevenstock and having to park outside...
See you at Mazfest 14 Aug?

ghostu2,
After lurking here for years for the great info I joined up to sell a couple 1st gens I've had for a good while. Bought a couple must buys so I need the space.
If you need something for Sevenstock I'm the second owner of the white '85 SE, all original, and a Montego blue '83 S/SE. Both rust free as new.

Please EVERYONE, if it hasn't yet been created, start a thread on the V8 subject in a different thread. This thread should really be about useful information regarding Seven Stock and not a debate.

Who's "David?" My name's 'Glen.' Nice of you to remember me, though. I can never remember people's names, either.
Yeah, may come to that some day... but right now, the cost of a Renesis plant and all the required electronics to support it is far beyond my hobbyist reach. And by then, seeing as Mazda recently announced they're dropping the -8, may not be any of those around at that time, either.
I've seen a number of Renesis powerplants out of vehicles, and I got the impression that without serious intake modification, they are too tall to fit in an SA.
First SevenStock I ever went to (was SSV, also, in fact) I knew nothing about it & had never participated in a car event before; I saw a blurb somewhere about this Mazda event and that it opened at 8am (I think it was), so I innocently rolled up right at opening time, expecting to drive right in. I had to walk a ways to get from where I parked to the show. I had no idea how early people were showing up, lining up, prepping.
Next year, I was ready & on time for the lineup, only about 40 cars back:
& got a spot in with the other first gens:
I do remember a lot of people that year being kind of surprised that so much front-and-center space was allotted to these people at a show called SEVENStock:
... but clearly, Mazda wanted to showcase their latest effort. It's all good.
I guess I'm just willing to trust that the organizers will be sure things are worked out fairly, especially since the issue's come up so many times in recent years.
There's a chance I may go, if I have time to do it right. I've had a lot of my free time eaten up by family drama this year, spent a lot of time back in the midwest dealing with things.
Last year it seemed the Mazfest show focus was all about heavy modification & the newer cars like 3's and 6's, & on track time. All very cool, but not very much in it for me since I don't track my car, nor hyper-mod it.
Now you know that you can use newer, available rotor motors to keep your car on the road AND legal. It's easier to do that than some V8 legal swap. There's more cars of all sorts being restored now more than ever.

I've seen a number of Renesis powerplants out of vehicles, and I got the impression that without serious intake modification, they are too tall to fit in an SA.
BINGO!

DivinDriver...
My bad "Glen"...really sorry bout that.
Yes the Renesis is more of a luxury right now...I can remember when we would kill for a new an RX4 motor.
It looks like it fits just fine in the conversions I've seen, and rebuilt shortblocks aren't all that much, they just don't match up to your intake and exhaust for an easy option.
Here's an FB with an RX8 dash and motor.

You'd have to use a newer motor that works and still find a supply of replacement parts. Good thing you only need to keep the one car going. Your stuff should last you a long time.
I believe Mazfest 6 was started by MOCC which is the piston owners, but they welcome the rotary guys which helps the car counts for track rentals, other clubs too, if they're short. They have 80,000 members...or maybe that's just the forum members. I like their potential, though.
Ill try not to ruffle anymore feathers in this thread, I made my point, so see you all in September.

Strictly Old School
Hey RB RX7,
you can hang out with us at the old school row; HARDCORE rotorhead is always welcome. We will have a big sign that says "RX with Piston Inside do not enter."

My wife and I parked in your overflow along side the building, rather than split up the truck and the FC.
We were right at the exit where the V8 guys had their hissyfit shortly after NOON! I kept thinking it was lucky they weren't closer to your area.
I plan on getting the same spot next to you again so we can have a good laugh.
Make sure you all get to picnic at Mazfest on the 14th of Aug (I don't have a canopy)
Here's some photos I got off the net from SS12, Mazfest 5, Cars and Coffee, and my "coup" and '85 SE at the Doubletree at SS11.
Might as well post some pics while I'm up.
Almost belong in the old school lot... just an OG with old cars.

WOO!!! Its our high school reunion!!!
Anyway...I'm super stoked to be a part of this amazing event!!! I will be prepping my "Rocky II" for another glorious showing off of my taste LOL
Time to repaint the hood and front bumper along with another goodie
Also gonna install some rare goodies and hopefully get my VMIC and bigger turbo dropped in.
While at it, I recruited some fresh meet to bring to the event!
PS: I love all of you, piston or rotary owners
