I suggest that grouping is the best solution.

Look, the old school rx2-4, repu area is separate from the FB's group which is divided from the FC area which is separate from the FD group which is split from the RX8's. That's the way 7stock is organized. Why do V8 swaps get the special privilege of being mixed in with rotary's? Frankly this is just foolish. There should be a separate swap section for rotaries installed into other shells, and for engine swaps into Fx shells. Why is this not the obvious way to resolve this legitimate conflict?

This year will be my 10th consecutive Sevenstock. I love the rotary engine and the blood sweat and sacrafice that Mazda embraced and continues to embrace to bring this engine and technology to market. With that said, I would have a hard time ever swapping a V8 into my Gen 3, however I know people who have made the switch for whatever reason and I respect their decision. It's just not mine.

I'm also a diehard car enthusiast, so I love cars that are uniquely crafted with design solutions that take things to the next level or make me think differently about my ride. For that reason, I say let's welcome everyone and let them decide if their hoods are up or down and let's respect each other's passion. I'd love to see the guy from Texas show up who just put a turbocharged 13B into his Orange Chevy Nova. If you haven't checked that thread out yet, you need to. Super clean installation and attention to detail with an incredible end result.

For me, the event is a celebration of the rotary engine, but more than that, it's a gathering of the latest and best design solutions from our community, and THAT my friends, is the main reason I attend what I passionately refer to "Christmas In September" and will ALWAYS come to Sevenstock as long as the SoCal Community and Mazda continue to host the event!!

About half the people that have commented on this are my friends. In my original response to this I warned the piston guys of the reception that they could probably expect from most of the community. However no one on either side is listening. Please everyone take a breather... step back from your opinion for just a moment, I know there are people at Mazda who look at these boards, I don't want to risk our event and their support because of conflict.

The comment above is one I respect highly. I will say that while I don't care for the piston swaps I understand and appreciate the engineering behind them. It isn't for me, you may like it but I don't. My opinion liked or not is that it takes much more engineering skill to find a way to get the horsepower and reliability out of 1.1, 1.2, or 2 or even 2.6 L (for a 4 rotor) than it does something 5 or 5.7 L. I am reminded of an old quote (yea i know it isn't exact) "there is no replacement for displacement." But the thing that make them cool to me is getting that much power out of such a small lightweight package. No one is ever going to win this argument and no one side is going to come out on top we are all going to lose if we keep it up.

I am reminded of taking one of my Rx's to a local hot rod shop that happens every week. I was one of the first to show up and happend to park a widebody 82 Rx7 that is highly modified in the area that was unoffically claimed by the vette guys. When they showed up I was chastised, berated, bullied and belitted by all of them. How dare I park my POS in their area, how dare I be a rebel and bring my rotary crap to this hot rod show. I said I wasn't so different than them, they gave me one opportunity to show that my car had anything to do with theirs. I walked over to my fenders and knocked on them and said fiberglass.... and also in the mid 70s there were 2 concept vettes that were powered by rotaries.....

The moral, every time I come I can park with those vette guys..... lets find the common ground

Thanks for being the referee that you are, Dave.

Trouble is Dave, this isn't a neutral corner, this isn't our local hot rod show. I get along good there, too.

It's the largest all rotary show in the world.

These are guys with screen names like no pistons, Phoenix 6.0, zero rotor motorsports...all expecting no hassles when they want to crash the wrong party.

They call me a hater, a tool, disrepectfull to them!, have I been to Japan, that the Mazda engineers should welcome them and appreciate their handiwork.

I don't think there is a need to be politically correct for a handful of people who won't even be polite enough to keep their hoods closed.

Who are we afraid offending?...15 or 20 guys who don't seem to get it....or 4,980 people who do?

As far as "appreciating an engineering excercise" excuses... it's just about the lowest level engine swap there is. ANYBODY can do that. That's just an easy way out. Maybe they should invite Granny's Speed Shop in with their booth?

Engineering is 50 years of effort by Mazda going it alone against all the other majors conspiring to destroy a threatening technology. GM killed my dream of a 4 rotor Corvette, even Ford while owning much of Mazda did all it could to stifle rotary engineering.

I'm sorry if the noise makers don't like my message.

Try taking a Porsche with a rotary to any big Porsche event. They are not polite.

Put that Chevy in a Mopar or in Ford at a Ford sponsored event, they don't think it's an engineering excercise to suit someone's "needs".

Try crashing a Honda event. At a recent CARS and COFFEE (a weekly OPEN unsanctioned meet held on the same grounds as Sevenstock) 99 NSXs showed up and when they found that the S2000 guys scooped some of their parking spots...well all hell broke out!

Yes engine swaps are great fun...but I don't go to major shows with them.

I've built or been involved in swapping RXs into Bugs, Bajas, Europas, Bugeyes, 914s, 911s, TR7s, 510s, Lotus 7s, Beck Spyders, even BMW 320i and Vegas...

BUT I DON'T TAKE THEM TO WHERE THEY SHOULDN'T BE...take them to SS!

I'm sorry that those guys can't seem to learn how to build a 450+ hp 80 cu in wankel that will last all race season without a teardown, and still win a national championship beating Vipers, Corvettes, Porsches and BMWs and other imports.

They'd rather blame a little 200 lb Mazda motor for their own inability to "engineer" power and reliability.

They act like they never blew up a V8.

I know guys who will build you a 1,000 HP 13b and if you listen to them you'll get quite a few runs in. But NO...they won't listen and put their tune on it...KABLAMO!

There's a few streetable 550 hp 3 ROTOR RX7s out here who will make you a BELIEVER!

This is nothing new, I've been around this old and tired argument going on 40 years. It's just like Ford vs Chevy vs Mopar, it's just like the sportcar wars.

It's just common sense. It's about PASSION, EVEN ADDICTION for ROTOR MOTORS AND THEIR POWER DELIVERY.

One more thought.

They took the rotary engine OUT of their Mazda and cast it aside...and put in piston engine, a V8.

Yes, I have a problem with that...at least one day a year.

the cym is my rotary powered rx7, the silver is my swapped fd that is running. when im done with the swapped daily driver fd i will be working on the cym and keeping it rotary. one is for daily driving, one is to be a garage queen. would you like the vin numbers to see that they are registered under the same owner? yes, its possible that one man can have passion for BOTH.

no pistons?! has 4 rx7s at his house, 3 of them are running, reliable rotary motors, never needed rebuilds, the fc is 600whp.

what am i getting at? we are rotary enthusiasts JUST LIKE YOU, IN EVERY WAY, well almost every way, we are open minded, you are not. you see a v8 swapped rx and you let your emotions get the best of you. you constantly want to imply your ideology of swappers on our persona's as if you have a CLUE as to who we are and what our reason is. no one here cares about anybody's automotive background, you say its nothing personal but dude, you are taking it SO personal as to be offended by the very sight of something you dislike, that you are soo adamant to imply your self justified logic of keeping our hood closed. like others have said, give it a rest dude, we are welcomed to attend, we are going, we are going to have our hoods opened, we will not cause a scene, we will display great character, we will support all things rotary.

at this point it doesnt matter where you (or i)stand with this, but im sure others will agree with me, but i speak for myself, i think you are beating a dead horse with this. you made your points, we made ours, lets move on and continue to have a healthy thread. i hope you are not so stubborn to drag this thing out all they way till the night of the meet.

I was going to stay out of this, but to answer your question. Yes, I plan on attending and if the organizers of the event allow us to have our hoods open, I will. If you don't like that, you'll need to learn to live with the disappointment.

As mentioned previously, its a shame that some folks (on the swapped side of the house) last year got a little out of hand and made what was perceived by you and a few others as a disrespectful departure from the event. Speaking or myself, I can assure that will not happen on my part. I am a car enthusiast at heart and I particularly love the engineering that went into the RX7 series. I don't hate the rotary, I've had three, one 1985 GSL-SE (bought new), two FD's (one bought new in '93 and my current one bought in '02).

I'm looking forward to seeing all the cars, meeting with and talking with the owners, and in general having a great time. I hope that you can get past this and enjoy yourself at the event too.

Should Mazda THE SPONSOR have to walk around and see Chevys?

Should the club members and 5,000 rotor heads have to see more V8s every year?

Should we let in the Supra engined cars? ...the S2000 swaps.

It's not about you, and it's nothing personal.

If you want to pop your hood to beam over your pride and joy...then you're at the wrong place.

So you are saying that if you cannot open your hood...then you're are not coming? Why not?

This is my point folks.

They want to showcase their V8s at the world's largest all rotary event.

How cool is that?

I've been taking one of my cars there for 8 years and never opened the hood, let them wonder.

And what about you? You're being incredibly disrespectful to the event coordinator who asked the arguing to stop.

No one should be going to this event with a chip on their shoulder. It is obviously a rotary event, and you should obviously be there to celebrate the rx7 and the rotary engine.

If someone is spouting off about their displeasure of the rotary engine then they are CLEARLY in the wrong place. If they're trying to recruit people over to the dark side then they're idiots. If they're being disruptive or disrespectful, ask them to leave.

I think you're extremely confused about the intentions of the people who want to attend this event with a swapped rx7.

Frankly I could care less if they segregated the engine swaps. Maybe they should...it really doesn't make a difference either way.

Do you actually think that Mazda is opposed to piston engines? If so, think again. I'm sure their engineers are just like most car enthusiasts and are interested in how things were done to accommodate alternative power plants.

You sir, appear to have a serious issue with Mazda enthusiasts who decided on different method of propulsion (nothing personal). May I suggest that you PM Bern and work through your issues with him, since he the one helping to organize the event.

p.s. Reading comprehension is your friend. Nowhere did I say, that if I couldn't have my hood open I wouldn't be attending.

Just to let you know I have been to there the last four years and there has never been a keep your hood shut if you have a engine swap rule.

no hate here, was actually joking around. Crankshaft, get it... I just took from the thread that Bern, the organizer completly welcomed v8's as long as they aren't dicks. I still have many rotary friends and respect the engine. In fact, if I could afford another fd, it would be a rotary powered street car and my swapped would be my track car. Was mainly messing with Rb rx7 cause he seems to really hate swapped cars and seems to be the only one who doesn't want them there. Like I said earlier, the swap better suited me and my budget. I have landed the car for 11 years now and love it more every day.

Well we could try this...you could try and have a civil conversation with one of us, and someone can come in the middle spouting off the same crazy stuff over and over again.

If you'd take off your rose colored glasses you'd notice this has been very civil on one side, and a belligerent rant on the other. I guess we need to stop the hate though.

Also, just a little tid bit of info, none of us know what the other is going to do. There is not a post council where we all get together and tell each other what to post. Everyone is acting on their own regardless of what engine they have in their car. You dislike all v8 guys because of a couple off the cuff comments that are VERY mild?

RB RX7, as this is a rotary event, the many other rotary builds will probably eclipse any v8 swaps. The rotary will be the main event, don't worry.

Also, let's encourage ourselves to be different from those people who look down on others because of what they have in their cars.

RCCAZ_1 Post #77 said it best. Let's enjoy the day and if there are any issues, I'm sure Bern and the other coordinators will promptly rectify it.
