GA Walter Mitty Friday, May 2nd thru Sunday, May 4th

Who is coming out to the Walter Mitty at Road Atlanta? They have free parade laps on the track, if you get there and sign up early. And, they have track touring laps for $35 one day or $50 two days. I will try to get us a corral also. Mazda is sponsor for the 3rd year in a row and supposed to bring out some of the historic racecars and they will race.

Holly

Here is some info on the Mitty:
Counting Down to The Mitty

We're counting down to the '08 Classic Motorsports Mitty May 2-4. Check out the great weekend of events we have scheduled:

GRM Speedfest at The Classic Motorsports Mitty

Join one of the biggest race weekend parties of the year. We'll take care of the infield entertainment during The Mitty with car corrals, autocross runs and more.

Moss Motors Pub
No British car weekend is complete without some beer and darts. Join the staffs of Moss Motors and Classic Motorsports magazine on the hill at the Mitty in our re-creation of an old English pub.

Wirewheel.com Swap Meet and Car Corral
Come join in the Southeast’s biggest sports and race car parts swap meet and car sale corral.

G-Force Project Car Corral
See your favorite Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports project cars, from our 1957 Triumph TR3 race car to our newest BMW 335i on display courtesy of G-Force safety gear.

Ford Power & The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge
Both classic and modern Fords will take to the track during HSR's Road Atlanta historic race weekend. Classic Fords will do battle in the HSR run groups, while the Mustang FR500S--a factory-built racer based on the latest Mustang GT--will battle it out in the debut Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires.

HSR Historic Racing
From the Ferraris of the '50s to the Cobras, Corvettes and Jaguars of the '60s to the incredible IMSA GTP cars of the '80s and '90s, you can relive the most thrilling battles in motorsports history at this event.

Historic Formula 1
Wonder in disbelief at the sounds and the speed as the fastest and most famous Formula 1 cars of the last five decades take to the track for this rare appearance.

A whole lotta Mazdas
Mazda fans have a full weekend of events to enjoy...
Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup
SCCA's Pro Series for Mazda's Spec MX-5s is one of the weekend’s most popular and intense races. Watch as dozens of Roadsters running three wide come roaring down the hill and into Turn 1.
Mazda Fest
This is the East Coast’s largest gathering of Mazdas, from the legendary Mazda RX7 to Miatas of every incarnation. Mazda USA will also be bringing its most famous race cars to the show.
Flyin' Miata Turbo Install
Want to see what it takes to install a Flyin' Miata turbo setup? Flyin' Miata's dynamic duo of Bill Cardell and Keith Tanner will help us install one during the event.
Kumho Challenge
Drive in an actual autocross race competition in identically prepped new Mazda MX-5s courtesy of Kumho tire.

Bring Your Club
Tire Rack Club Parade Laps
Every club that has more than 20 members at the Mitty will get to hit the Historic Road Atlanta track for parade laps courtesy of the Tire Rack. Individuals can also sign up for parade laps on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thanks for helping spread the word.

If all goes real well I should be bringing up my blue RX-7.

Hope to see you all there. Stop by and say hello. I'll be the youngest (and most balding) Grassroots and Classic Motorsports Employee.

Hey, this looks like fun. I'll have to check the calendar and let you know. We should try to get the OGTA out. Maybe I can convince our our spiritual leader (Ray) to come out.

Hello Greg, I am happy to try to get everyone out there to see the historic MAZDA racecars going around the track. Two years ago it was awesome watching and hearing all the 4 rotor and 3 rotors going around the track.

Greg, do you have any pull to get a corral for us? Even if it is for MAZDAs that would be great. The rotorheads can park in a corner of it.

Drive it 'til it pops, then back off a hair. You're an excellent rotary tech, Holly.

What do we need to do ahead of time - buy a ticket, register online, tell Holly? Am I correct in remembering that there's a small fee for parade laps, UNLESS you're in a group of 20 or more?

Do you guys think we could get a parade of 20 or more SAs and FBs? Now that would be really cool. If we make this a goal I will try to provide two of them, one for me and one for Holly. It's safer that way.

I will see what I can do about the car corral. Cars will just be separated by country (i.e. Japan, Britain) then specific clubs. I will be going up earlier so I can see if we can get a separate Mazda corral, and then grouping the RX-7's together.

Hope to see you all up there. I probably won't be bringing a car though.

HadaGSL-SE, do you have a hand in coordinating? If we give you an approximate number of RX-7s (FBs, even), we'd love to be able to tape off an area so we can stay together. Nothing like squatter's rights.

go to http://speedfest.classicmotorsports.net to purchase tickets. At this time though they cost the same as at the gate. If you can only make one day, I would make it out on Saturday. Infield Parking is $10, which you will need to pay to get into the corral and do any laps. The parade laps are free, you have to get there early and sign up. Parade Laps start at like noon.

The Track Touring Laps are $35 for one day and $50 for two days. These Laps start at like 12:30 or 1. If you are serious about getting on the track at all be sure to get there around 9AM.

Holly, add me to the confirmed list. I can only come on Saturday. But I will be there. For those who want to get there early, maybe we could meet some place. I'ld suggest the Cracker Barrel we met at for the Mountain Run, but that may be too busy on a race day.

Even though I missed the advance ticket deadline due to crappy work internet, I'll be there on Friday @ Noon with my Orange SA (taking time off of work for once). Should be a blast, weather permitting. Is anyone else planning on camping? I live 15 mins away and am debating about camping-out.

I finally got those waffle wheels I bought off of Donnie last August, and some new tires mounted. As such, I'd definitely be down for some parade laps.

I think we ought to move our monthly meeting to the Mitty. We should meet up at the corral and then roll over to the other Jeffrey's in Braselton for some "food". HAHA, we should go-in together on an OGTA banner to rep the club while at the track.

Holly, any clue what cars Downing is bringing? If you could organize a pit tour for us that would be super-sweet. I'd love to get really close to any of those cars.

-Andy
