Question about a Car Law

My car doesnt have a catalitic converter on it.

Im not the one that took it off or asked for it to be taken off, the guy i bought it from did it.

Will i be charged with removing it? or for just not having one?

the only charge i could suffer is a noise ordenience charge(206 dollers), which if i am at wot and high enough rpm for it to be THAT loud, i would get busted for speeding...
i am not sure about if there are charges in a state that requires emissions testing, but without it you will fail, here in AL we aint got no darn testing :P

It's a federal violation (EPA) to remove, tamper with, or operate a vehicle without a complete, functional, and intact emissions system

Do not worry about it. Just don't make noise next to cops. Your car will run better and colder without a cat, unless you overboost and blow up. The last 10 years or so I only got one ticket for "illegal exhaust" that I just paid since it was an equipment violation and no points. That cop swore I threw a 6 foot flame from a stock GXL. The previous owners of all my cars replaced the cats with magnaflows apparently , so they're not too loud. Take it easy there is no emissions testing here in FL right now, just drive normal and not like a dangerous ricer and you'll be just fine with your open exhaust.

They will only make you put it back on if you have smog test or inspections in your city, Fla. doesn't have inspections or smog, but some cities in Fla. do.
First off did you know about it before you bought the car ? ? ? Second if he's a private party (not a dealer) then selling the car without the cat is not illegal. If you knew about it and wanted it replaced or reinstalled then you could have asked. He can either comply with your wishes or sell it to someone else.

Not a true statement ^^^^^if the car came equiped with it it's supposed to have it. Same with seat belts. And twenty years old in Fla. id Collectable, has to be 30 years old to be an Antique here.

My guess is that you will be charged if the government catches you. You could play dumb and maybe get a warning, but you will be responsible since you are the owner.

Its like buying a house.. if there is a lien on it and you don't know it, the new owner is responsible.. Also, if any codes aren't met, its the new owners responsible.. Same principle goes with the car..

i got exhaust tickets before but they were "fix- it" tickets so if u put a cat on and show them , then it will only cost u like 5 bucks for the ticket

What you can do if you JUST have str8 pipe right now, is to put on a resonator.

In case a cop pulls you over and he's like an exhaust genius and notices something different about your exhaust tell him the resonator is the cat or high flow cat.

But the risk of a cop looking under there and noticing is highly unlikely unless your car sounds like a damn freight engine.
