Possible Move to the FL Keys - Need Advice

OK Guys, I'm very seriously considering a move to the Florida keys somewhere and I've got a few questions that you all might be able to help with.

1) Assuming that I mainly live/work (work at home) in the keys, is there any real use for a 400 rwhp RX-7 there? I mean, there are no nearby tracks that I know of, no twisties, no mountain roads, etc. Just seems to me that an RX-7 there is sort of useless. My daily driver is an S2000 which would fit in much better there. I could sell my RX and take the money and buy something like a sport bike or partial payment on a nice sailboat. Those are things that I feel would fit in better down there then a car that is mainly at home over 100 mph.

2) Is there high speed internet widely available in the keys? Are certain keys more wired than other ones are? DSL? Cable? T1 lines? What can you get and is it reliable?

3) I was thinking of moving to Marathon or Big Pine areas... Probably not Key West since it's more expensive. I've been to the keys a few times for vacations, etc.. but didn't pay much attention to particular spots from a homeowner's point of view. How is the crime on each key/area? Are they all about the same? Are some noticeably worse than others? What about police enforcement of rules like speeding? I would imagine that with Rt 1 going in a straight line to Key West, police enforcement of speeding, etc would be high due to "tourist factor". Are the cops more lenient on locals?

4) Since I may buy a sailboat, is there a lot of boating-related theft down there? I know that outboard motors on dinghys are popular theft targets around Miami, but I dunno about the keys.

5) What about cellular service? Who is the best down there in terms of signal, etc?

Any other advice or comments are welcome! I'm really considering doing this, even though it's a little crazy. I'm just sick of working at an office all day and I'm looking to slow down my life and smell the roses a lot more.

The fl. Keys have a new highway , also all the high tech stuff we all like just like New York or Chicago and plenty of traffic on the weekends. As far as racing goes you have homestead motorsports track just 30 minutes away also a brand new 1/8 mile track in miami about 1:15 minutes away also moroso motorsports park 2 hrs away. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

Good luck moving to the Keys, is very nice and calm down there. The only bad thing about the keys is that everything is a far drive, but there are your local shops and supermarkets near by. As for your car, you would be the envi of your next door neighboor who happens to be driving a big SUV back and foward. You can take your 7 out on a ride every sunday and cruise around the keys and enjoying life in it. Don't sell it, it woud be a mistake. I go to the keys once every year, my gf and I love it becuase to us it's like a little get away from the traffic in Miami. When I go to the keys I allways see very nice imports like MKIV supras, Nissan 300zx, Nissan 240sx and of course a few 7's here and there.

Good luck on your decission.

Weekend traffic sucks so bad on A1A that I will only fly to the keys from St Pete. The couple of fun turns there might be are infested with Key Deer and the locals lynch people who hit them. Its a nice drive from Marathon to Key West if you're not in a hurry(perfect for the S2000). As mentioned above Homestead is close by so there are track events you can hit. I'd take it down there and live a while then decide.
Marathon has just about anything you could need, supply wise. Crime is about the same as anywhere, one big factor is only one main road, cops and robbers both know it!
I've had Nextel and T-Mobile all over the keys with pretty good luck.

my uncle died on the 7mile bridge because some asshat decided to cut him off and caused his truck carrying 50,000 gallons of octane to blow up after he jackknifed.

there's nowhere to open the 7 up remotely close in the keys...but if you love the car keep it. internet, yes all over...cell service...all over.

i'd say live in marathon...it's the biggest town next to key west. good food/bars/fishing...enjoy
