Mmmmm, The future work outfit for the FB. It runs great!, Burns oil too much but for 140+k on it and me putting 200 a day on it it does very nicely. So far since a good tune up I am getting 23 MPG's at 65 MPH. Is that about correct for a 12A? I have a 13B 6 port I am building up to put in it later on. I pulled the stock front end off to repair rust and dents etc..for now the wide nose is for a couple days.

Looks .... um .... well .... um, ahh, good Dave. Kind of like a carnivorous platypus. Nice work!
And yeah 23 mpg at 65 mph is exactly what you should be getting with a 12A. So I guess all those aerodynamics aren't hurting things too bad.
You know the more I look at it, the more I'm thinking hydroplane.

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me out with a cooling issue.
I have a 12A with mild streetport. Racing Beat intake with Holly card and the RB full exhaust. I just installed a new 79 -3 row short radiator( a friend had one) I have an 18lb rad cap. I have an E-fan but no shroud. I have a new water pump, Mazda thermostat. The one set for 180 degrees. The system has been flushed. I have all new hoses, even the ones to the oil cooler. I have no leaks, and there is not any coolant in the oil. I tried the Weter Wetter from Redline.
I run normal temps when driving normal, its only when I get on it does it start to run hot. I have not over heated yet. It goes to the 3/4 mark, then I drive normal and it drops again.
Could this be a sensor issue, or does anyone else have a similiar set up, and how do you keep it cool?

I think the first thing I would do is check the stock gauge for accuracy. Also, try to figure out what 3/4 means in terms of actual temperature.
Is the radiator good? (Not clogged)

Aight, will hit alil shop I know down the road to check for the gause, and sensor.
As for the rad. It was brand new outta the box, I flush the whole rad, and the engine and it flows freely.
Thanks man

Hey Ian, you mentioned, you don't have a shroud. I am wondering if that is an integal part of the cooling system? I know on the 3rd gen it makes a big difference if just the underbelly cover is removed, when driving spiritedly. Maybe you could make a temporary shroud out of cardboard and tape, just to test the theory.

Also, if you have the underbelly cover, it will make a difference. I do not have one, but I am looking around for one *hint hint*

Would a shroud still make a difference, when your driving? I understand at lower speeds, the fan pulls the air from the entire rad, through the fan. But if your driving, does it really make that much difference?
I also forgot to mention, I have an aftermarket bumper. I think that may not be directing enough air towards it. I am going to make a small spoiler, to direct the air towards the rad to see if its the bumper, restricting the air flow.

Fan shroud shouldn't make a difference while moving. When you said it was a problem during spirited driving, I assumed you were moving at a reasonable speed where the fan doesn't matter. The undertray works differently than the shroud, where it helps direct air towards the radiator.
Now, a bumper could be a problem. But it would really need to be restricting.

Better bring a keg, then.
Hey Darth, I can guarantee you that the shroud and windage tray aren't your problem if you're having trouble at speed. I'd start with the thermostat, and remove it for the sake of testing. In any event, bring some sockets to the Gap, and I'm sure we can find your problem.
