so 95% of street tire will destroy your diff. That sucks. So I guess it is steel belted for you.

 

Nah street tires loose traction, radials grip and break diffs. Very easy to prevent premature 8.8 conversion. I just want one of my dam rx7s to be streetable

 

IMO, the FD rear is stronger than many think. As long as you don't have wheel hop, they hold up really well. I personally haven't broken a FD diff in my 11+ years of FD ownership. That includes probably 100 or so drag strip passes, launches on the street, 1st / 2nd gear hits on the street. Most of which on drag radials and making close to 500rw. I don't know the in's and outs of your car, but if it's making in the 500rw range or less and doesn't wheel hop, my opinion is that you are fine playing around on the street with drag radials. At the track, there is more risk of breaking stuff.

 

I havent been able to drive her longer than a week without breaking something.
