OFFICIAL Gainesville, FL events thread
not on my arm...
can't do the 18th...driving to Orlando
Cool shop, lots'a nice work...
Too bad I was only 1 of 3 people that spoke english, though

Mark and I are supposed to be making a trek down there, in the next month-or-so... Abel's got some tuning to do, on the Beater - which is loaded on the trailer and about to go get the cage int it. After that it's finish the wiring, fluids and load the base-map, then it's time to go!
So my reception in Costa Rica was pretty much expected: To much cloud-coverage and some god-awful traffic.
The flight was pretty un-eventful, as international flying usually is (minus one trip to Germany, where we - my entire, ah, "group" - were quietly detained to one wing of the Heathrow Airport, in England, due to some very interesting international security clearance issues).
I have, however seen a pretty evil-sounding WRX and a R33 Skyline.
Gigetty.
One notation: Rice is international. Seeing several cars that have 16-and-17" wheels, rockin' 4x4 status suspension. Altezza tails are pretty common-place.... More-so than fart-cans.
Will update more (with pictures!) later.

So I've determined that not only is RICE an international staple, but so is ****-poor driving....
EVERYONE here drives like they should wear glasses and haven't figured out how to gauge distance; late-braking like a ************...
Mark would love it, here
As well, it seems like the locals, on certain roads, drive a ****-ton better than even most people in the states.
Example:
Today we went and did some family stuff, at a restaurant, some 4000' above my current altitude (+ 3000' higher than you guys). Driving those roads puts a dampening light upon the touge, in Japan.
Posted speeds of 40 and 50kph (about 25 - 31 mph) are DEFINITELY in place for a reason....
To completely ignore.
I was rocking along in the rental (a 4wd Hyundai Tuscon) between 60 and 100kph (nearly 40 to 62 mph) on roads that were narrower than 2 semi-trucks, combined. You're talking INCHES between each passing car, and and inch-or-so between mirrors.
They're doing 40kph and I'm doing well over 80. That doesn't leave **** for room, in ANY direction.
Next trip will entail something a LOT bigger. The Hyundai does it, but quite unhappily, on all accounts, though once I determined the amount of body-roll, versus speed, I was flicking the poor thing around like it was a Miata - especially this afternoon when I got put on 'executive detail.' One of the fiance's relative's is some business-type, and was in my car. We were blasting though this fugly section of San Jose'. I would've been more at home if I were driving something a BIT more intimidating.
Speaking of cars, there a many, MANY Civics that're "pimped." Yesterday I actually had a red Si , blasting along with me. ****** couldn't drive (or handle) for ****, but thought he was doin' something with his lowering springs, 17s, fart-can, blue LEDs and big visor-bar banner that said 'sparco.'
Coming back from the Mountain, last night, I actually saw a (visually) WRC-spec Peugeot 206... All the way down to the wasted-spark, anti-lag system.
So...
Honda Civics: a MILLION
Subaru Impreza: 2
Nissan 240sx: 1
-- SE-R: dozen or so
-- GTR33: 1
Peugeot (various): several
# of vehs on 20s: 2
LOL. If anyone ever came here with an STi, modded right, they'd be a GOD. The Fiance's father says I should start modding cars here, as the RICE-scene is what's hot and how cheap it is, in the States. NTM that 1000USD is a ****-ton here (500:1 exchange rate). Get a car, mod the crap out of it, OUR way, then bring that puppy here...
You could RUN the car-scene, here.
Don't worry; I'm takin' pics to post (got one of RICE and one of a Pathfinder on 20s).

Gringo:
LOL. Seemed like it. Granted I'm not the BEST driver, on the planet, but I definitely got skills and you should've SEEN the looks on the faces of the locals, when I was blasting by them, front right wheel hooked on the lip of the gutter (a la 'Initial D'), on the inside, at twice their speed.
(ex-)Lord Vader:
Yeah, we talked about that when he picked up the Goat, from MCO. Glad everything went, as planned, but sorry you had such a rough break-up.

Eddie: I'll sell you my shell cheap and we can build a track only car out of it! Stick it in your garage and we could work on it for like 2 years a little at a time. Could probably even get a new title through a tow truck buddy.
I'm really like 90% serious.

Unlocking the door to the truck after work today and WTF!! Someone scratched my car....about 6 in scratch from side view mirror down. Must have been that jacked up trucks door that parked next to me this morning. F'in redneck doesn't give a crap about anybody else's ****. I gotta try and buff it out later this weekend. F*CK!
huh? oh...wait...maybe I got it from that toll gate I crashed through this weekend cause F'in Sunpass exact change lane is slow as crap to react and lift the gate open...nah...def the redneck.
