New tuning date for Huntsville!!

Ok, things did not work out for tonight but we are going to try and set another date for the near future. I am not sure when Steve will be able to get back here but I hope its in the next few weeks but that is all up to him. Dave, sorry I did not get to meet you tonight. I would have loved to check your car out but I was at a birthday party and could not leave.... I think we need to try and add a few cars to the group to make it worth Steve's time . Here is what we have so far:

Me (Huntsvillle rx7)
David (Huntsville supra)
dave (Nashville rx7)

I have another supra that may be ready in 2 weeks if we wait that long...
So we just need 2-3 more. Also please mention what weekends are good for you. The 3 above are ready asap...

I will be installing my PFC in a couple of weeks... but I won't be ready for serious tuning. Maybe Steve can download a nice base map for me.

I'm deffnitely ready ASAP, but I'll be taking advantage of the extra time to clean things up on my car. I need to get in touch with Rotary Performance and see what the deal is on my 3bar map and datalogit. I might try out XS Engineering's new ignition power pack too. I have some intercooler piping to get fixed and I might try to get that shrinking section out of my exhaust. I should be able to take care of most of that this week. I'll be in the Knoxville area this weekend at my uncle's lake house, but if something comes up, I can get away for a day. I will be around Tennessee for most of the rest of this month, but I have to get back up to Delaware before September. If we can get Steve out here before then, that'd be great.

Sounds good. I too will use the time to fix a few problems. My new AEM CDI shuts off when hot.... BOV they sent has too stiff of a spring and I too am running the rigged up IC piping. I will give Steve a few days before asking him when he can make it here...

Don, Just pay for a tuning session.. I am sure Steve will help you out on a map when you get the new motor and 99 twins on then...

$300 for a base map? No thanks, I'll wait for the movie to come out

Then I suggest to just reset the pfc if used if new it already has a base map in it and you need nothing loaded. If you want Steve to put in a map from someone else's car then you will need to discuss that with him..

Yeah, everywhere I've looked for a basemap, I've gotten advised against using another car's map. Without stock ports, its very difficult to be sure if its safe at all. I just dialed in on my pfc and enriched everything over 4000 rpm by 15% and then added a transition ramping down into the 2400rpm area. My boost controller is turned all the way down and I get less boost than I ever got with stock twins. HKS Racing Wastegates are serious about keeping boost limited.

I was actually thinking about seeing if we couldn't pick on Steve while he's in Birmingham. If nothing else, we could throw him a "we hope you feel better" party and tune a couple cars while he's fixing his 3 rotor at BNR. I can understand if he's not in the mood, but if he's gonna be there for a couple of days or however long he plans to stay, he could make some extra cash tuning a few cars at the end of the day. That's just my proposal. It might save him a sidetrack from another future tuning trip and that way he could just come to one location instead of trying to make 4 in a weekend without sleeping.

I'd like to get my IC piping done and see if I can't get my hands on one of those new power pack ignition amps that XS Engineering has out now. If I can do that within a couple of days, I'd gladly drive down to Alabama again and meet up with Steve and you other guys.

Hey Mike, I'm about to go to bed, but if you don't mind, give me a ring tomorrow after you talk to Steve. I'd deffinitely rather get my tuning taken care of sooner than later.

Ok, Here is the deal. I am just waiting to here from Walker dyno to make sure they can fit us in. The day will be Thursday the 12th. Me and David (supra) are leaving from Huntsville at 12:30pm. I am setting up the dyno for 4pm til??

Dave, (MakoDHardie) if this is cool with you then we will just meet you at the Huntsville exit of Hwy 65 around 12:45-1pm. That will give us 2 hours to get there and 1 hour to let the cars cool down.. If I do not here from you on here then I will give you a call from work tomorrow.. But Steve is fine with this so its a go... 256-337-3676 Mike

Gentlemen, that sounds good to me. I will look forward to that date. My dad's taking off of work on Friday and we are planning to get over to the lakehouse in Eastern TN Thursday night. I'll be down for the tuning session by myself, but I know he'd appreciate it if I could still get home early enough to stay with that plan. I've got big oil coolers, a v-mount, and a vented hood, so cooling aside, if it makes any difference to you guys, I don't mind going first- whatever you'd prefer.

One problem I do have is that I don't have a new set of plugs with me. Does anybody have an extra set of stock 9's I could buy/borrow off of to tune with?

Thanks for setting it up, Mike.
Phil, I'll see you there.

I'm sure you can buy some at a parts store near the dyno.

Yeah, I picked up some 9's and 10's from Advanced Auto a few days back.. I know the shop here only had 5 (9's) and I took 2 of those... So are meeting at the exit?

Don, you want to ride down with us?

Advanced Auto had four 9's in stock. I'm good.

I'm gonna tune on 9's. A good single turbo friend of mine up in Delaware runs race plugs all the time and he loses 30 horsepower within a week or so just because idling the car fouls them out. He's got the luxury of an air compressor and a plug cleaner, so he doesn't care, but I think its just annoying to deal with that so frequently. Rotary plugs get dirty quick enough, so I'm not about to try and speed it up. I'll save that for when I get my 3 bar map sensor and ignition to turn the boost up with on race fuel.

Mike, I'll get all the directions later on tonight and I'll meet you guys at whatever rendezvous you've picked.

i might as well have stayed with 9s. . . i found out. . . after hours of steve trying to bash it into my head. . . that the xs to4e kit really DOES suck!!!! hahahaha. i doubt ill be running 10s in there any longer. dont use 10s unless you plan on making good hp numbers. no point in it. . . plus. . . you have to make a special socket and the 10s burn out sooner than the 9s. . . surface gap plugs look stronger to me anyways. hahaha. i wont mess with em unless i plan on running more hp later on.

Hey Mike... I'm sure you guys are already at the dyno by now. Some crazy stuff happened here at work yesterday, I'll have to tell you about it ... Sorry I missed this, I'll have to make the next one.
