If someone would have came up to me and started pointing out the faults of putting a V8 in an RX-7, I would have promptly handed over the keys to let them find out firsthand from the driver's seat what a V8 RX-7 is all about.
Reese found out what it's like to be behind the wheel of it. I took him for a ride down the Gap, then handed him the keys for the return trip because he promised me a ride in the 20B.
Next meet, just find the V8 10AE and ask. I'll be glad to blister through the mountains with my "Junk car" that drove 10 hours each direction without the slightest hiccup at 28MPG.
I talked to at LEAST five or six people inquiring about the V8 swap because they were considering or were in the planning process of doing their car. One person at dinner made some anti-V8 comments, but it was more of "I wouldn't do it, but feel free to do whatever - it's your car"
As far as the RX8 meet goes, no offense to RX8 owners, but most RX8 owners I have met want to only hang out with other RX8 owners. Of course, the RX8 owners I met were usually first time rotary buyers who weren't fully aware of the heritage and impact the RX-7s have made.

I have played your video a load of times. Man, I have got to get me one of those conversions in spite of the purist attitudes. I'll take my chances.

If I'm lucky between now and then I'll win the lottery and get my wife out of her WRX and into an RX8. I'm actually looking at a wrecked one to rebuild now. If it happens then once again I will have an all mazda family.

I would like to mention that Deals Gap is a public road.
Everyone needs to understand that its not a track event.. Also, its not a driving school.
Everyone also needs to respect other drivers.. Being slow or not..
Thanks!

Actually I just want her to fit in a little better. I think an 8 will do the job and slow her down just a tad. She scares me sometimes. That WRX pushes through the corners too much. But she did a good job keeping up with the rest of us.
P.S. I'm glad she didn't follow, Don,Ashley, and me through that hot run we did.

I create graphics to share with people because I enjoy doing stuff like that. I'm sorry if you felt the need to respond in such a negative manner or felt threatened by it. That was not my intention.

i dont mean to start anything, i just hate it when someone talks about something they did or someone they beat (refering to drag racing someone when the other person isnt racing) when they really didnt...its bragging about nothing basically...

you can drive to the limits of your car and still be safe...i dont like it when people are unsafe about it, you can take great driving lines and still maintain lane safely..i guess its best i keep my mouth shut about it, i just had to vent a little bit, i dont want to not be invited to another event of the such
thanks for listening to my bitching

It's all good. Bitch-slapping is only a rhetorical reference. It's not inferring racing or driving wrecklessly....just a term. It's a nice drive through a very scenic part of the country with a lot of curves.
I'm pretty sure, there aren't even any real dragons up there...

The thing about a group driving is if you want to drive a RX7 to its fullest potential you need to do it by yourself not with a group. All you had to do was go thru the dragon by yourself. Its open and free 24/7. We cant take groups thru there at the edge of FD performance....not everyones car nor driver has the same capabilities. When you go as a group the group has to go at the rate of the slowest car/driver. If you want to go faster you just get to the other end, turn around, and go by yourself....its that easy.
When we all go back for another event you should just make some passes by yourself if you want to push the limits. Its not a track where you can only go at certain times. As a matter of fact I think the PERFECT time would be at sun up, there probably arent many cars/bikes on the road at sun up and the weather will be cooler.

or better yet take it to a track where you are matching one car/driver versus another. as opposed to who is willing to be more reckless by pushing their car the furthest on a public road.

****, I know I had to hold back as the trees were pretty big... Some might chance it but once you have 25k + in a car and a wife and kids you view racing a little differant. I would have no problem pushing my car 110% on a road track "no trees" or others to run over... Just not a smart idea!
The Gap was great. I saw no one driving out of control nor did I see anyone driving to slow..
To bad there is no drag strip close by. Thats more my cup of tea!

Rotorsownsyou,
My car is actually is out of commission, hope to get it going in the next couple of weeks. I rode with Drew (Alucard). Hopefully you can attend the fall meet if we have one.
