Random question... Does anyone know Rob's' last name? I'm referring to the bike rider/FD owner. I'm trying to get something written up. Thanks!

**Dances around room** YES! Deal's Gap run in the Fall! Wooo! I'm ALL about that one!

Oh and I drive an RX-7... so I want to meet up with RX-7s. LOL Haha... it sounds like a racist movement.

Honestly, I wouldn't care either way, but I do think it would be more fun to chill with the RX-7 people... since that's something we all share.

Thanks! The rematch is on for the fall! Really though, I was so pleased with how well my car handled everything I threw at it, it just renewed my faith in my whole set-up (and my amazing tuner). I never felt anything but completely confident in the car, which surprised me because that road was truly insane. I didn't even touch the limits, and I was flying. Everyone from Raleigh had a great time. We had some guys go back up and run the TOTD at 11:00 PM Saturday night, but they got scared and turned their lights on!

My wife and I stayed over for Sunday and she asked to drive my car for the first time, that's right, she drove the dragon and kicked him in the butt. We then went with Jason, an RRDI member who is stationed at Camp LeJeune and lives near Maryville, TN, and drove a 133 mile circuit from Fontana, over the Dragon, down to the Cherahola SKyway, back into Robbinsville and back to Fontana. A really great morning drive.

I hate to rain on another event but anytime after early October to mid November the roads in the NC/TN mountains are going to be crowded and lodging is going to be scare or very expensive. The driving will not be nearly as much fun as it was this past weekend and if you plan on staying at Fontana or any convenient location you'd better make reservations very early. If you were frustrated at all on this trip with the Harley cruisers or the minivans or pickups thru the TOTD, you'll not be happy in the fall at all. Try following a motor home or dad pulling the camper across the Gap, or following a parade of 30 seniors on their Harleys admiring the fall colors.

This was a terrific spring event, and I'll definitely be there next spring for the excitement but I wouldn't go near the place with the 7 in October.

I talked with our guys and we all are willing to jump in and help carry part of the load for next year's event, just let us know where you need us.

Thanks Phil for getting behind this and pushing it like you did. I'm just worried now that the Rotary Revolution event may hurt our turnout, think you could ask them to change their dates, or cancel their event so that they can avoid conflicting with the Deals Gap Rally?

I wouldn't worry too much.. By my limited research, I think people know that its a completely different event and different crowds goto each event.

I acturally picked our date after RR and earlier on this thread, we had some interesting conversations took place.

If you look at who goes to RR, Its mostly OH, MO, IL, WI, KY etc.. pretty much all midwest guys. As I mentioned during our discussion about who goes where.. Its obviously true what I said.. No one from Midwest came to this event and very few are going to RR.

Also, I wanted a "free" event for rotorhead enthuiasts and RR costs $$$$.
Especially if you want to do track event.. then, $$$$ x $$$$ = $$$$ x $$$$

I've spoken with several driver's significant others and they acturally enjoyed the event. And that means a lot to me.. because usually when there is a car event, most girlfriends and wives of the drivers are bored out of their minds.

I hope that this event gets as big as Miata club or Mini Club. But at the same time, I hope we get enough sponsors realizing the potential of this event and help out. Just to let you guys know, to sponsor this event, cost was very little. And I think I've provided quite of bit of advertising for the amount they spent (about 1/4 of what other events charge).

But I do appreciate them having faith in me to carry this event out and sponsoring.

So,

Let me thank them again!!

Hinsonsupercar - Brian
Rotary Extreme - Chuck
RX7trix - Brendon
Gotham Racing - Steve
BNR - Brian

When I picked up your VP and brought him back to Fontana after the last TOTD run he was telling me about the concerns that the Rotary Revolution organizers had with what we just finished. I agree that one event will have no impact on the other. A totally different type of event and a different audience. Just need to keep them on their toes!

I saw Rob up at the Deals Gap store on Sunday morning, he had his FD there. Thanked him again for the information he gave us and he said he got some good pics of the guys on the dragon.

My wife drove the Dragon on Sunday and really enjoyed the trip and all the events, she did say that it would have been better if there were other wives there but I can cure that next year by getting some of our guys to bring along their wives. Diane really got into the driving and was a whole lot less fearful of the other mountain roads after kicking the dragon in the butt. We also went south to the Cherahola Skyway after finishing the dragon and came back to Robbinsville and to Fontana, a round trip of 133 miles. Some great roads and great scenery all the way.

I've acturally worked with one of the organizer of RR last year. And even this years event. I've suggested few things to him to help with his event and I wish them all the luck.
RR and Deals Gap event is so different that we shouldn't have any issues in the future. And I'm not really big on having huge events. I just want people to come out, mingle, and enjoy the drive. If I cared about making money on events, I'll be charging $$$$, get a cut from the hotel, make money on food, and over charge the sponsors.. Its not about that.. Its about getting people together...

One thing for certain next year.. I'm going to make sure everyone knows each other.. I will definitely have name tags next year.

I have just PM'd Ryan about having a sub forum for the deals gap event.

Kind of like MRR, RR, and sevenstock have. I think we have enough interest and had big enough event to have a sub forum, What you guys think?

yeah my girlfriend had a blast this past weekend. normally she's bored to death at car events or when we hang out with my friends, but she had a good time checking out some of the cars and talking to everybody. she said everyone was so friendly to her. she got interested enough to start asking me questions about some of the cars(which she never does). the fd's have really started to appeal to her now.

My wife didn't make it, unfortunately. She likes cars and supports the fact that I spend so much (time and money) on the car, but she couldn't take riding in the mountains like we did. She would have been sick from the word go. Ah well, I love her anyway.

Hats off and many thanks to Phil, MRCCAL and its officers for such a great time. The Gap was quite a blast. I only wondered why it took me so long to get there. The dragon challenged me to push my ride harder and harder. Congrats on a job well done. I look forward to other runs to the Gap soon. I will go again in September with the RX8s and may go back sooner. What a Great time!

It does however disturb me to read some of you spout such hate about the RX8s run to the Gap in September. If the events are indeed for the ride, the thrills, and comraderie, why would anyone refuse to go if the 8s put it together? Aside from the registration fee, which someone pointed out includes a shirt and banquet, I don't yet see much difference in the cost.

I certainly felt welcome at Rotaries at Deal's Gap and had many inquiries into my thoughts about my car, just as I admired the many 7s displayed and run through the Gap. We all know that the RX8 has only been out for less than two years whereas the RX7 was produced for several more years, so you can't expect that there would be a huge turnout of 8s. I met a lot of great people from several states and look forward to more meets together.

Now I won't speak for other 8 owners, but the only other one left early for what ever reason and another who planned to come got sick. Some of you may be aware that the 8s had a great turnout at the Gap last fall and have been planning since then for another meet this fall. Most 8 owners who would participate had already made plans to attend that event prior to last weekends meet.

An invitation to the fall meet has been extended to any and all rotary owners. It is so disappointing to read that 7s owners are refusing to participate with other rotary owners while at the same time welcoming Toyotas and V8 powered cars. Don't get me wrong, the Hinson cars were exciting to see and hear and I'd like to have one myself, so I'm not bashing them.

Hope everyone made it back safely. Enjoy the Drive...

Well with that said, let the flaming commence.

I think any one who loves the rotary should be welcomed or those who just love the look of the 7 and drop alot of pistons in it. That said I did hear alot of people talking bad about many cars. Like the v8 cars are junk yada yada yada. Or thats rice this is rice. They are all opinions. censorship is bad but people should be more considerate of others. It was a great event and I will be there for the next one.

Kevin the RX-7 is looking good. The last time I saw it was some where around June when you came to the RX-7 meet at Texas Road house. Did not get a chance to talk to you at the dragon because you got swamped with people.

Haha, yeah, I got bumrushed I guess. It's good to be loved

Wish I could have stayed longer, and talked to more people. I got there late, and as soon as I did, they called the meeting and everyone left. Between me not feeling well and needing to get back to get some work done, I decided to leave out earlier than everyone else.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I got nothing but compliments on my car with the occasional ribbing in good humor from the crew I came in with about my car having a V8. If someone would have came up to me and started pointing out the faults of putting a V8 in an RX-7, I would have promptly handed over the keys to let them find out firsthand from the driver's seat what a V8 RX-7 is all about.

Reese found out what it's like to be behind the wheel of it. I took him for a ride down the Gap, then handed him the keys for the return trip because he promised me a ride in the 20B.

Next meet, just find the V8 10AE and ask. I'll be glad to blister through the mountains with my "Junk car" that drove 10 hours each direction without the slightest hiccup at 28MPG.

I talked to at LEAST five or six people inquiring about the V8 swap because they were considering or were in the planning process of doing their car. One person at dinner made some anti-V8 comments, but it was more of "I wouldn't do it, but feel free to do whatever - it's your car"

As far as the RX8 meet goes, no offense to RX8 owners, but most RX8 owners I have met want to only hang out with other RX8 owners. Of course, the RX8 owners I met were usually first time rotary buyers who weren't fully aware of the heritage and impact the RX-7s have made.
