looking to offload around 6000 lbs of rotary engine parts/tools and shop equipment
might not be the proper place for this, if a mod doesn't find it appropriate just let me know.
I'm looking to sell around 16 engines worth of parts, mostly FC, some FD and a few RX8 parts. i have 2 FD manual transmissions, 2 FC TII manual transmissions, an RX8 6 speed manual transmission, an RX8 torsen diff, drill press, small shop presses, dozens of turbo cores mostly FC but some FD. last count i had about 30 iron plates, 28 rotor housings and 25 rotors. the counts are rough guesses(and they are modest guesses and probably a bit lower than actual). around 20 front covers and oil pans and as many sets of stationary gears. most of these parts are $200+ each and many have already been 75% cleaned for storage. several front mount intercoolers brand new, generic intercooler piping kits, misc. interior and electrical bits. 80 gallon 5 horse Husky commercial air compressor with both gas and electric motors.
i was looking to get around $25k for everything as a whole. fair market value of the parts and tools is around $60k. i'm unable to really devote time or energy now that i'm partially disabled to either liquidating the whole pile or to start building engines again. offers are welcome but also might be ignored if totally unreasonable.
these parts are getting more difficult to find as time goes on, especially as the older FC parts never have gone into reproduction. this could be an opportunity for someone who is an engine builder to sell complete engines, many of which are going for $5000+ each with only $1000 invested into rebuild parts. i used to rebuild this many engines in 4 months, which puts the potential net profits in the $40k area or $10k a month if you can sell in decent volume.
i'm planning on moving up north to missouri to do a job i can still do and i simply have no plans to cart these parts another 1000 miles on top of the 3000 miles they have already traveled with me from california/nevada. if i can sell most everything as a whole that would be best. i'm not super interested in parting out the lot with pickers and choosers.
i also have a project 1986 non turbo FC in excellent condition i can include an engine core with, ECM, cluster, HVAC control head, AFM and all the parts from the engine i took off while doing the restoration on. it's a flood victim and will need a new drivetrain swap as well as the electronics listed. $6k for everything with clean florida title. it's a sport model, full aero kit(rare),no sunroof, hand crank windows, 5 lug wheels and 4 pot heavy duty turbo brakes all factory(basically it is an S4 GTUs model). original tornado silver exterior(rare) maroon interior, stored under a house for 15 years so there is no sun damage, unmolested and original at 119k miles. trim is complete, no major interior wear, would easily be worth ~$12-15k completed. the engine is currently stripped to the block, ready to pull engine and trans out.
additionally i have a lotus super 7 kit car i was going to work on completing for sale, it comes with a frame stand jig for welding the frame, jigs for suspension components and the body components. the frame is 90% completed and has a miata NB rear axle in it and the engine bay is set up to mount a 13B engine and transmission. $1k for the frame, jigs, diff axles, 3 seats including 2 lightweight honda insight seats, a dodge charger scat pack seat and blueprints for the frame and body panels. front suspension has not been done, rear suspension has only partly started progress. the materials cost alone involved in it this far is the $1k asking price.
life is giving me a new start with the short time i have left and i need to unload all this stuff that i have buried myself with. if i don't get many actual responses in the next month or so i will start cataloging everything to start selling individually. i'm planning on spending at least a year doing this cleanup project so we will see how it goes. i should have a more comprehensive list in the next weeks to month.

not yet, based in washington i figure they wouldn't be too interested in picking up a whole truckload of parts this far away. Kilo racing is up the road in st cloud florida, i might check with them first.

I heard Atkins had bought a large lot of parts out of Texas.
wonder how large, for a big rebuild shop i wouldn't call what i have a lot. however it is enough to fill up a roughly 10 foot by 20 foot storage space. when i moved from vegas the 24 foot moving truck was nearly fully packed with just the shop supplies and totalled at least 6k lbs. i haven't gotten rid of anything in the 10 years since.
my 12k lbs moving truck plus 6k+ cargo and my FC on a dolly put me just under the 26,001 lb limit for class c moving.

I could not, just now, find my source for that info, but I recall being surprised that Atkins would buy a second hand collection like that. My sense is was more than a couple lockers full, perhaps mostly FC parts.

yeah, depends on the price and the quantity i'm sure. i'm not keen to just give the stuff away, i gave discounts on engine builds over the years to accumulate the parts and engines so it has physical value to me still, so something like $5k for the lot won't interest me, i would piece it out over several years if so and get my full $60k value or just build the engines/transmissions and sell the parts with no core charge. i messaged Kilo in St Cloud since theyre about 20 miles from me, but they obviously weren't interested enough to even bother to give a simple "no thanks" response. even an n/a s4 (the most common rotary engine there is)core engine easily goes for $1k these days in good condition, my engines are torn apart, cleaned and inspected and trash totally unusable parts have been disposed of. i trashed a lot of junk before moving because i had already overloaded the truck and had scrapped thousands of pounds of parts in las vegas.
i don't really have any fancy or heroic stories over the years, just 30k posts on this forum helping folks(no this isn't my original account) and about 350 rotary engines, most of which i would like to think are still alive out there somewhere. i spent all my time working, not so much documenting the journey, or building cars for myself to prove i can for social media. just a modest technician who wanted to earn a living, most of the time i neglected my own cars to get customers cars done.
the only thing i can really say i did as compared to any other shop that has come and gone since, i did everything myself. i only had 1 employee for about 6 months who helped me clean engine parts during rebuilds and mostly because he begged me for work. other than that my whole 10+ year career building rotary cars i was 100% alone in the shop doing it all myself.

I don't know the full story but I did witness the hoard of parts in 2017.
A friend worked at Mosing Motorcars, they acquired 3 storage units' worth of parts. One had a very good condition SA22 that they sold themselves.
Lots of 1st and 2nd gen stock parts, mainly transmissions and intake manifolds, but there were some gems like 10A housings.
They weren't interested in holding that much in floor/shelf space and selling individual pieces, whatever Atkins offered was probably worth it for them and for Atkins to ship it.
i wouldn't expect transmission cores to hold much value(granted that is an exceptional lot of transmissions), especially the non turbo units. i think i even left some when i moved because there wasn't enough space. intake manifolds as well, they survive when the engines don't so there is a lot of them floating around out there.
engine parts though are not hard to sell, at all. especially if you have them cleaned and give specs.
i do hate to see big bundles like that wind up for scrap though, someone will definitely need a transmission, differential or even intake manifold at some point. so it's nice to see they got adopted.
