i'd be there but i'm having a shitload of electrical issues with my newly purchased GTU. none of the interior electronics are functional (instrument panel lights, warning lights, blower motor, sunroof, electric mirriors, stereo, etc.) i didnt realize just how badly this car had been electrically molested before i bought it. the idiot i bought it from bypassed the fuel pump relay and wired it directly into the ignition. the parks lights never work, and the tail lights only work when the ignition is on. this is my first FC so i'm open to any advice. as of now its lookin like i'll be spending the weekend removing the entire dash.

Step one would be to run a relay and a fuse on that fuel pump so the wire doesn't melt and burn the car to the ground. It sounds like whoever did that swap did it in a hurry. If I were in that situation, I'd look for a S5 motor with a complete harness as well as a S5 N/A gauge cluster. Otherwise you're always going to have problems with frankenstein wiring. Going back to factory is always the best place to start.

yeah...finding an s5 block around here wont be easy. i'd probably be better off finding a clean s4 body and swaping the engine. does cody still have his GTU available?

No, cody sold his GTU a while ago to a guy in Jeff city, who turbo'd it, blew that, put it back to na and sold the car to another guy, who blew THAT then sold it to a member of our armed forces, and NOW its back at the guy's place in jeff city to be turbo'd again....man thats a mouthful.

Oh and I miss having a 7...things such as cams make me frustrated... Mechanical rockers are noisy...and now I have to figure out if my cam in the conquest is meant for mechanical rockers or if its a hydrolic cam (which is fine to run the mechanicals on), and to figure out if my spare cams (i have 2) are stock or not and then install those hydrolic units instead...

BUT the conquest is now broken in >>

WTF is a cam, Derrick?

I think it's time for the Conquest to make its autocross debut! Think it'll pull better times than the Cheeto? Eh? Ehhhh?

Actually she's autocrossed 1.1 times, first time it did well enough to post better RAW times than a guy in a C6 vette (albeit his stock rubber was done for and his son hammered out better times), and she was very *** happy (was like a month or two into ownership even). The .1 time I got 1 run in and then the fuel pump gave out, which meant I had to tow it home from morristown....and I ruined the airdam then.

She probably wont go autocrossing until I get the suspension and brakes worked out, shes about as heavy as a Vert, and the suspension does it best just to keep the wheels attached to the car. Next years 3~4k project....now that this years 5k project is just about done.

And yeah....cams are a mystery to me for now...

may have found what i'm looking for. there is an s4 w/ a blown engine on chapman hwy, the shop wants $300 for it. i believe its an 88 GXL. should be able to get the swap done next weekend. if anyone wants to buy a mint condition s5 body let me know, i'll take $500 for it. maybe less if offered cash.

Ahh come on Derrick... why does everyone think they can't autocross unless they have mods? It's better to see what you can do with the car without "help."

Oh well, Count Wankula will be out on the course tomorrow. Lock up yo kids.

That's just it, I know what it can do on a course, and it feels nervous. The NA felt very planted and did what I wanted it to for the most part. The Conquest is a bigger beast that needs more refining to get it undercontrol, not to mention my ball joints appreciate not getting beaten up anny more than they are. I think the car would benefit from getting stiffened up more than it would a driver improvement at this point.

So Jimmy, how'd the moldy cheeze do?

Also to note...I cant believe how much extra crap for the quest I keep finding... totally forgot I had ANOTHER cam and 2 sets of rockers sitting in a box... means i've got a combined total of 4 heads (one totally trash), 5 cams (1 totally trash), 6 sets of rockers (1 set ofhydrolic rollers, 2 sets of hydrolic slipper rockers, 3 sets of mechanical slipper rockers (one set junk), 3 intake manifolds, 3 throttle assemblies, 2 exhaust manifolds, 3 fuel rail assemblies, one totally scrap block, and 1 shortblock that I need to check bearings on...

The Moldy Cheez was Brillo's first gen. It moved to Florida. Who knows what became of it. Count Wankula ran well aside from running a bit hot. I have coolant leaking from behind the water pump housing. Joy. I have to relearn how to drive this thing though. I'm not used to having some grip to work with, and the snap oversteer that comes as a result. I had a DNF on one lap because I spun out and went outside of a gate. The car is far less predictable, but I think it'll be more competitive once I get used to it.

Charlie, I heard about your run-in with the laaaaw. At least you had a valid excuse! I gotta hear the full story on that one. I think I can do Circuit City next Sunday. I'll bring what I have, which may or may not be of use to anyone. You still have that 1st gen spoiler?

Yeah, first gens are more tail happy than second gens, despite the lack of power. I even had some trouble hooking up on the straights. I noticed a lot of people were though, even on R-compound. So that could've been the lot's fault.

Here's some pics, courtesy of Bonnie:

Same car different color... again. I guess Cheeto is just a Bandito now. It's not done but at least it's one color again... er... two. I got the wheels from Chad. After I finish the exterior I get to redo the interior, yay.

Too much damn work if you ask me. Remind me to quit doing my own paint. I'll get more pics up as I get it finished. And you have a good eye, that is indeed a Texas plate.

heh nice. Yeah...good eyes...last you saw me I didnt wear glasses...now ive got some frames resting on the nose >.<

Bodyworks no joke, that thing looked a bit rough from the inside (fiberglass in much of the back end IIRC?) Thankfully I dont have much rust to contend with on the SQ, though its got the usual spots forming in the bottom of the wheel well arches, annd multiple dings/dent thanks to idiots in parking lots...but I swear I have to stab another transmission in my SQ itll be too soon....

Glasses... you must be getting old. Yeah no kidding about the bodywork... there's a lot of places on that car now where a magnet won't stick. More fiberglass means less weight though, right? I just wish I'd spent a little more time on the doors. I fixed all the dents but I didn't go over the bondo'd parts that were done by previous owners. Now that there's shiny on it I can tell they didn't do that great of a job.

I wouldnt say i'm getting old...just that genetics are catching up with me. everyone on my moms side of the family wears glasses, most everyone on my dad's side too...and i've already got the receding hairline like my father and his father before him.

Good news though, my bigger turbo should be here by the weekend or mondayish, so next week I can start looking at moar boost (goodbye 7psi, hello 15psi)

Also...to further comment on the autocrossing wankula (Finally figured out the writing in the hatch glass is count wankula lawl)

Thats not oversteer >.>

THIS is oversteer <.<

First autocross evar in that yacht.

And also to add from looking through the pictures of the cheezeburger annd comparing them with some pics i have of the quest from when it finally it the dragon:

We both could stand a smaller sidewall (you more so than I) for grippage. Your left front looks like it just wants to go under the car o.O.

Both our steering racks are nigh identicle (drag link and idler arms >.<) so steering input is always a bit fuzzy.

We both could stand some stiffer suspension bits. Im planning (pending funding of course) full D2 coilovers, beefier sways, and a poly bushing set with new sway bar endlinks. Bring the quest 2~3 inches closer to the earth and stiffen her up oughta do some real good.

Where was that shot taken Derrick? Oversteer does kill your times but hey, at least it's fun. I don't think doubling your boost is going to help with your oversteer problem

My steering box could definitely use some work. Got that trademark play. I think I'll throw some RB springs under it to cut the roll and get the CG down a bit. I feel like a semi truck next to those damn STS Miatas.

What class do you run the yacht in?
