Jax Summer Rotary BBQ
Well, it's been a few years since I organized the old events here in Jax but after going through some major surgeries and now on the mend, I'm ready to get back into the scene. Some of my new friends here in Jax had no idea how large our events were years ago and I'm hoping that we can get them that big again. Back to where our rotary friends would come in from South Florida, Georgia and Tallahassee.
I'm almost done with my '91 Turbo and as soon as it's tuned--I'll wait for the bumper and paint--I'll go meet with the GM at Tom Bush Mazda and see if they'd be willing to sponsor our meets again--ummm, Sonny's BBQ or the 8 foot subs from Publix <insert Homer Simspon "AAAargh!"> If they're are not interested we'll do a big *** bbq where everybody brings something.
So, at this stage let's kick around some times and places. I'm thinking Sunday, July 3rd at Castaway Island Preserve. The venue is large enough to accommodate everyone, there is shade, water, BBQs, tables and walking trails for families all on the intracoastal waterway. Maybe start at noon to whenever? http://visitsouth.com/articles/artic...cksonville-fl/
I'd like to see Eddie, Jack and Tom and their friends from G'ville. Maybe Adam and friends from Savannah, the FD boys from down south are always welcome. We always had a good mix of people and cars and, personally, I miss that. So, let's use this thread to weed out our plans, set final date and location, who's coming and what we need and want to do at the meet.
We'll keep this as open and pliable for a while then start nailing responsibilities down prior to the meet.

Wuss. There's shade, A/C community center, parking and BBQs right on the Intracoastal. Let Eddie chime in if he thinks we should have it there again. Where was that meet three years ago? I haven't been a part of hosting one in almost five years now. We started 10 years ago at Mt. Trashmore off of Girvin Road. I'm looking for photos now...

GRINGO: If you or Eddie talk to them, please let them know they're invited and that we'd like to see them too. I'm dragging Sam Ollie and his see-thru rotary engine to the meet!
OK. July 9th seems to work with everyone. I'll start scouting the park tomorrow and see if it still works and then on Monday I'll go see who the GM is at Tom Bush and see if we can't get some sponsorship. The sponsorship used to cover either 3 6' subs and sides, utensils and drinks from Publix or a nice spread from Bonos BBQ. I'll be bringing my DSLR to shoot everyone's rides. After we finish hanging, should we consider a cruise out to the beach for adult beverages?
