dark side i sense in him
OK! i sent an email to the head of the SE SCCA, just waiting for a reply. We might be able to rent hutchinson island,(small island with half a road course and a big area the SCCA sets up for solo) so there might have to be a cover charge. they (island owners) usually frown on the actual road course use ( blame the damn golfers cuz the road is right next tothe golf course) but the pit and paddock are open. if everyone steals(acquires) a couple of traffic cones we could make our own course, do time trials and maybe prizes! but this will take some organization, and im stuck in Philly working nights, so dayton if you could help id appreciate it.
so all feed back will be welcome, and i will persue this tillsomeone decides something better, cool?
and im drunk so if this doesnt make sense, take a few shots then try reading it _

just saw this so be prepared: good rules to follow so we dont ruin the fun for fellow SCCA members.....
Hutchinson Island
Hutchinson Island is located across the Savannah River, immediately north of downtown Savannah.
From I-95 exit onto I-16 East toward downtown Savannah. Take the exit for US 17 to Hardeville. This will lead you to and over the Talmadge Bridge. The entrance to Hutchinson Island is from the right lane only at the South Carolina end of the bridge. Follow the access road toward the Westin Resort hotel. When you reach the hotel entrance, turn left onto Resort Drive. Follow this to the T, turn left. Follow this road less than 1/2 mile and you will reach the entrance to the paddock area and the registration desk.
From US 17 (from Hardeeville, Bluffton, Hilton Head, etc.) turn left onto Hutchinson Island at the foot of the Talmadge Bridge. Follow the directions above once on the island.
Special Notes for this venue:
The speed limit on the island access road is 25 MPH and strictly enforced.
Grand Prize of the Americas Avenue IS NOT A RACETRACK. It is a developmental road built to race track standards.
Treat the island area with respect. Do not speed or litter. We want to be allowed to use this area again!
Do not impede the flow of traffic on Grand Prize of the Americas Avenue. Do not park on the shoulders of this road.
If you tow a trailer, please see the registration desk to ascertain where you may park your trailer. This may vary depending upon participation.
Paddock spaces will be assigned at registration. You must keep your car and support materials within your assigned paddock.
Bring plenty of liquids and or foods. There are no concession facilities at this venue.
A "port-a-potty" will be available.
Every competitor will have and execute a work assignment.
No "hot-*******" or tire warming will be permitted.

If we are looking within that general area, how about looking at Roebling Road Raceway in Bloomingdale, GA? That's an actual track, no golfers road course use /races, etc. Any chance you can check them out as well? See which one we can get the better deal with? Also, the fact that it's

I like the Savannah idea as well, so we can include everyone from the SE area. Anywhere in GA would be fine for that matter, as it would be a reasonable drive for the entire SE.
Track day sounds the most fun, so we can have memories to include for that date, rather than just standing around and eating hot dogs. Apex does not offer enough CAR related activities. LOL. We could just make Apex the place we fellowship and go swimming in Jordan Lake.
VIR has a Tarheel BMW event going on, so we couldn't go there and keep the day rotary-ish. Hmmm... I like the GA idea best so everyone will be able to come. I would like to meet and include some new people who aren't able to trek all the way to Tail of the Dragon or NC for that matter.

...NO! The only issue would be that there are alot of people who cannot make it that far to Tail of the Dragon that want to celebrate 7-07-07.

The only criticism I can give to the track day idea (and I'm not trying to be a pessimist, just a realist) is that it is going to be expensive. We cannot rely on everyone just paying when they get there, because if last minute people decide not to show up, or want to come but don't want to run, then people are going to get stuck with a large bill. There needs to be more organization and a registration involved if this is to happen. That means someone has to take this thing by the reigns, and it has to be someone we all trust handing over our money to.
Second, some people's cars are going to break on the track. That's just a given. Anyone who is actually driving their car from their home to the event might be stuck without a ride home, so just think about that if that was your plan.
Just some things to think about guys. I hope this goes off great!

Miami to Savannah is about an 8 hour drive.
My vote goes for Savannah. I know Roebling Road rents out the track for events, and someone will be looking into it. Aside from that, its pretty central to the southeast, and downtown Savannah is a nice place to cruise.

I'm good for Savannah but **** I live here! I can get with all the guys to get something going. For the people that travel we have hotels on the Island and in downtown Savannah.

Correct me if Im wrong, but shouldnt you be contacting the either whoever owns the property there, or the city(since the "track" is a public road)? Id imagine SCCA merely rents or has some deal worked out with whoever actually owns the property.
