Gilga.... order a template from racing beat and go to work but make sure you know what you are doing!

Don, not sure if I will make either event this week. got my complete dash out and have to reinstall everything.

Army mech. welcome ... what color is the rx7 now?

if its red, paint it cherry viper red.

white- paint it an OEM pearl white ( my moms subarus look great)

blue- that IBM blue... so beautiful.

silver- find a metalic silver that has a ton of flake lol.

or you can sand it to bare metal and let it rust.... make it look like a hood ride lol

Army- Personally I like the Silver with A LOT of flake... I can provide an example Weds. if you plan on going to that cruise in.

Gilga- I would stick with a street port if its gunna be a regular driver... The racing beat templates are good if you want to do it yourself, I don't think its to hard... If you want practice I have some spare side housings... If you want someone to do for you, I recommend Jim Cowan. He did my car and I am continually amazed at how much power that 1L puts out, plus he kinda let me hang around and learn what he was doing...

the rx3 is a full blown race car. but i want it to be reliable enough to drag race/autox/ trackday/ and even drift it.

with that being said im thinking a large street port with the exhaust port opened up.

no need on going too big. Big is not always better. Spend more time on the flow. Stack the motor partial and spin the rotor and get a better idea on the opening and closing of the port. I like the idea of a good size exhaust port. I dont like it too deep or round but more square and wide/ high a little over lap.....I have made my own template for the housings.

see this is why i would rather pay for someone who has done this and knows the flow very well.

where would you take your motor to be built/ ported?

I would have Luis balance it and spec the plates, if needed let him lap them. Buy some als seals, oem rebuild kit (Glen AZ rotary) and racing beat template. Go ahead and get the Akins rebuild video and watch it over and over... Then clean everything good, port, pick up balanced center section from Luis and assemble. Then you will have a good motor you built for $1000-1200 bucks. also you will have peace of mind knowing your motor and if it goes out again you know what to do again!

Gilga, Seriously would recommend Jim Cowan. He does everything from blueprints to P-Ports. Mike's comment sounds good, that's what I'm doing with my red car... but its a kindof "learn-as-I-go" thing, that's what I'm looking for. If you want serious power AND reliablily (atleast better than is usually expect with serious power) I would talk to Jim. I can PM you his number if you want.

btw, I wasn't sure if you were talkin about the 3 or some FC yall have. Don't you guys have several different mazda's?

mike-do you have a rebuild video laying around somewhere?

Sk8 the car is white at the moment! I like the oem white or I was thinking about a midnight blue color! It has a red interior but I'm thinking about changing to black!!

Gilga- I would love to see the car but i work 2nd shift so I can't make it!! Do you guys do anything on the weekends?

whats wrong with white? I would leave it white as to change to another color and do it right is crazy $$$..

Rider. I think I still have the rebuild video on an old pc.. Have to check. I do not know this Jim Cowan but if he has build-ported a few motors I am sure he knows some.. But the big diferance you will see is if he knows turbo motors. Porting needs to be differant. NA motors, big ports for power, not so true on forced induction. But for what he is looking to build might not be a bad idea. I would offer but I have no time. **** I got another motor I want to build for myself that I have not found time for yet.

Aug 22nd. midnight madness at HSV dragway. Don is going along with myself. Come on out!

I'll try to go out to the dragstrip... as well as DQ(?) tonight. Jim mostly does N/A, but I know he does some forced stuff. I can vouche for his expertice with NA... turbo, well I have no experience, but he is really easy to talk to and he'll tell you how it is.

all- I found a junkyard that has a 12a & 13b sitting on the shelf. he wants $400 for both. he said they both ran when they were pulled. Sounded like he'll probably go down some on the price, if anyone is interested or looking for good parts...

mike-you asked me to keep an eye out for a fb... I know of a couple around town that are cheap but the condition is reflective of the price. I know of a couple others that have been sitting and aren't ever driven (from what I can see), owner might be willing to let 'em go. I give you names and locations if your interested. If you run across that rebuild video i'll trade a beer for it, sounds like we're in the same boat though as far as rebuilding "that other motor in the garage"

army- I agree with mike... it's hella easier to stay with the original color if your not lookin to drop a good bit of cash. idea is... you can leave the door jams and engine bay stock paint (condition depending) you can vary the flake and pearl of the exterior though without it being noticeable. That is what I did and I couldn't be happier. If you want to take a look sometime just let me know and we can figure something out, but anybody that's repainted can probably show you; its a pretty common thing.

ill be at midnight madness in the WRX WAGON!!! lol i FINALLY got it back.

riderx i heard your car at DQ tonight... sounds like you need a bit of carb tuning.

sk8- im trying to get my dad to call rotary resurection to try and get him to build and port it. its cheap, and he seem to be familiar with turbo cars.

ok teh rx7s we have:
85 GSL- silver, red int, 6port 13b soon to be swapped and mega squirted for another 6port that put down 149 stock internally, and coil overs. this is probly the only street rx7 we have.

84 GSL, blue, cloth int. water seals seem to be leaking, cause it smokes like crazy, Soon to get the "old" 6port from the silver car. and its gonna be a rallyx car
.
84 GS - the rx7 that got us into rotarys, completely stripped, painted it a few years ago... just need to apply for a lost title to get the motivation to get it going lol.

85 GS blue, 2nd rx7 we got.... retired rallyx car.

73 RX3- First race car we ever got, i blew the factory large port 12a so we swapped a 6port in it. (the 149 hp one) from an rx7 that cought fire 2 weeks after installing a brand new atkins motor !!! but my brother took out the oil pan at crow mtn last october. and we had a 13bT with the front cover mod done... just needed an oil pan. ( we got this motor from lane @ hinson supercars.)

Sounds like we need to have a tech day. I will be doing my tranny/clutch swap soon (before August 22), so when and where would be good place to have one? I would offer my place but I don't have a garage, although I do have every tool to fix/fab/assemble anything imaginable.

lol, actually im getten the clutch in my Rodeo done at static x on tues. i dont have the tools to drop a 4wd trans myself. last time i tryed to replace the front half-shafts i ended up taken it to a mech, and he couldnt get them out either. so he rebuilt my front shafts with the guts i bought.

i was chatten with one of the guys at static x and he said that the Mazda dealership has an open garage day to work on our cars there like once a month or so. i dont know for sure, but if so, maybe we can haing with the 8's and what ever else is there.

oh, riderx, i have all 4 videos of DIY-RE 13b on my computer. its 1.3gb, really informative, but dose not tell you how to check specs on rotors, housings, and irons, just how to assemble. but you can find little tip videos from pineapple racing.com or just search the forums on how to do it.

also yesterday i re-enforced my dashboard tabs with some plastic-weld and some fiberglass cloth. im just waiting for my radio to come in so i can put the int all back in and store her for the winter. its some really nice stuff to work with once you get the hang of it, and def beats payen up for a new trim piece. just gotta keep the money comin in to save up for the engine rebuild cost.

stock owners repair manual should have enough info for any specs you will need. If you are going for a high HP or reving motor than there are some differant specs that need to be used. But for a basic rebuild its all in the book.
