Hi from SC

Hi everyone I'm new here and I don't own a rx 7 yet. When I sell my bike I will be in the market for one. I have never owned one so I just wanted to get a head start on the lingo and information about these beautiful cars. Is there an area for the noobs that shows common things to look for and what to expect when buying and owning one? I will be looking for a 93 or 94. I live in Beaufort near Hilton Head if anyone is familar with that area.

Thanks for any help,

Jesse

wellcome to the club. There is everything you need to know about the 93-95 RX7 in the 3rd gen section at the top of the main page just look in the FAQ section there.

Yeah let me see whats going on that weekend. As soon as my bike sells I will be ready to get one. I hope it sells soon I already found a 93 R1 slightly modded that I want.

Hey Sabre, do you have the ls1 rex on the road? I'm curious to see that setup. My previous sports car was a 02 WS6 Trans Am. So I know all about the LS1.

I've got a running 2nd gen w/LS1 and I may be at the meet in Feb, if you're interested in checking one out.

If you end up buying a 3rd gen rx7, be sure you buy lots of tools and most important of all have access to a cover garage. Also, I would highly recommend having a second car and doing all the reliable mods such as an alumimum radiator, al air separator tank, check all solenoids, replace all radiator hoses and upgrade your vacuum hoses to Viton (expensive but worth it). Lastly, and most 93's and up may have this modification, get rid of that damn front catalitic converter (if not already done). Also, upfrade to an FC thermoswich, this upgrade will drive the radiator fans on high speed around 195 degrees vs stock 226 (it will run cooler).

Good luck and for whatever it's worth, these car are reliable if not over modified and with all the proper reliable mods.

I have not seen any FD's in Beaufort... I have a place on St. Helena's Island and never seen one.

^ Who are you kidding. A V8 in an FD... I laugh at that.

If you don't know myself and lt1_rx7 then don't flame my comment.

Hey, As a recent buyer of a 94 FD I recommend spending like 3 months LIVING on this forum. Only then (and not even) would I say to buy an FD. Some people have positive stories and some have negative. I happen to have one of the bad stories but in the end I have the financial ability to handle it. If you hear these guys telling you to do something, mod or otherwise, listen to them or it will cost you ALOT of money in the end. So, to recap, the day you get your FD dont say "well I really want to see what its got even though the guys told me to tune it and/or get all the reliability mods, but I want to drive it" or this will happen "Vrooooooooooom......pffffffffffffffff" (insert sound of blown apex seal). Hope this helps =).

BTW guys, I am about to sell my Trans am and get a stage 3 rebuild from rx7world (Minda, thanks for letting me know about ernst hes a good guy). I am planning a mild street port, upgrade to 3mm super apex seal, rotor polishing and the cooling fins mod.

If the car you're looking at is close to any of us, I'm sure we wouldn't have a problem going and checking it out for you first. I know I could've used someone there when I found mine.

V8 or rotary...still 3 types in the RX world...the purist: rotary motor stays in rotary car. the rotary enthusitist: stick a rotary motor in EVERYTHING!!! and the piston crew: put a piston motor into an RX...

doesn't matter which you are, the important thing is that you love the RX7 in one way or another, either the body and handling, or the motor. We're a club about meeting new people, helping each other out and enjoying drives.

I've seen 1.3 liters beat several 5.7+ motors and i've seen the opposite...flame me if u want, but i love my chevy powered FD and enjoy driving a rotary FC or FD when i get the chance. and anyone who wants to help me have the chance to drive an SA or FB, please...i want to!!! hahaha...

anyway...i'll quit ranting now...back to the thread

once I get everything out of my SA witch has become my storage compartment for everything I will take you for a little spin in it I have figured out the other day why SA are so much lighter then FB it came as an accident becouse I have made me a strut bar for the FB and when I tryed to put it on an SA it was too wide that was schock to me to say the least.
