Headed to Orlando In January

Hey guys/girls! It looks like there are a lot of great cars and owners down in sunny Florida. So I just found out my wife landed a great job in Orlando. We will be moving at the beginning of the year and I cannot wait to meet up with more FD owners. It will also be pretty nice to be able to drive my car year round as well. Anyone have any advice or words of wisdom for a future Floridian?

Hope to meet you all soon,

Noah

Hey welcome to Florida
Just so you know florida is full of fees and scam artists
Everyone will try and get at your money.
People are just downright rude, so dont be surprised if someone brushes you off quickly or acts temperamental. Its just the way of life down here.

Be prepared for the hit to register your cars in Florida.
Dont buy a house right away. Orlando has tons of houses to live in.
All but one freeway is toll free. It will cost you a couple bucks to cross town. Otherwise Orlando is cheap to live in. Orlando also doesnt pay as well as jobs as Miami, however the cost of living is way cheaper than down south.

My good freind Felipe (pito13b) lives on the east side of Orlando and he can prb give you beeter advice on what areas of town to settle down in. David Hayes also comes down to Orlando as well. Kilo Racing is also based in Orlando and hes well known for rotaries.

The plus side is that there are no emissions and the Cars&Coffee meet every month is off the hook. Orlando also has a lot of good restaurants to eat at.

And it helps that Mickey Mouse is the mayor.

Welcome to the area! Plenty of things going on here in Orlando, sometimes its tough to make every meet. Let us know what side of town you will be staying at and we can tell you what's going on. Best of luck with the move and hope everything goes smoothly!

^^Definitely a good problem to have.

What air-conditioning!!!??!! I ripped that **** out YEARS ago. BUT that is ok, I will deal with it. My car is not a daily driver and it gets far hotter here in Tulsa during the summer months (100+ real temp that feels like 115+) with close to the same humidity. Weather is nuts here. Heck, I am looking forward to being able to drive the car year-round!

I have noticed you guys are always having meets. That is a welcome change. There are only a handful of FD's in Tulsa and only a few of them actually like to get together.

Moosejaw, thanks for the advice. Yeah, I know about all the toll roads. REALLY annoying, but I guess it is another way to suck every dime out of tourists. Thanks for the heads up with how ppl are. They sound pretty much the same as ppl here, Rude for no reason.

Actually we will be on the north-east side of town (Winter Park) so that would be cool to hear from your friend.

I have followed Davids 20B for a long time and am really excited about having a good shop close. Now I drive 4hours to Dallas for tuning, everything else I do myself. Funny thing, when Davids car was at Gotham and they were robbed, I had JUST picked my car up a few days before...

Man...Moosejaw must live in South Florida...that place is like a different country...it certainly isn't Florida. While Central Florida isn't quite the traditional genteel South that you find in Georgia or Alabama, etc, the vast majority of people are warm and welcoming...more so than you find in the Northeast. I think the only place I've ever been treated better is Texas.

That being said, the Orlando RX7 group are some of the friendliest people around. The Gainesville guys live 2 hours North of them but always try and catch an event or two in Orlando because of the great crew they have there.

That being said, I've generally found being polite and respectful tends to get you the same in return...either that or I'm just a large enough individual that people figure I'll crush them. =)

Gringo, mostly I find the same as you. Meaning, I am a pretty respectful person and am usually willing to help someone else and in return people are mostly nice to me. BUT, I can also relate to the attitude moosejaw is referring to and there are a fair amount of ppl here that just seem to think they have the "right" to be and do as they will and everyone else just better get the hell out of their way.

I have been to Orlando a good many times, a very good friend of mine lives there in Winter Garden. It is funny you say south fl, or Miami is a different world. I think that every time I am down there! It is great fun to visit, but I have no desire whatsoever to live in Miami.

I noticed that while hanging out with Pito13B that Central Florida offers a more relaxed attitude than South Florida. People arent in a hurry and drive safer than those in South Florida. Its a different world once you cross the Dade County Line.

I dont what it is but its all about the rat race down here. Boats, Exotic Cars, expensive homes, and Expensive Drinks are the rage down here.
