Deals Gap 2006.. Your input would be greatly appreciated!!
Approximately 6 months away and I'm just gauging interest for next years Deals Gap.
I'm hoping to do it again, April or May 2006.
Please post and let me know what you liked about the event or what you didn't like about the event.
This year, I'm hoping to make it a free event (just like last, buying a shirt will provide free lunch and able to participate in the free prizes). I have a cool T-shirt idea in mind.. I'll post the idea in next month or so.
I'm also hoping that last years sponsors will donate prizes and help out with this event (unfortunately, it costs more for us to try to get Mazda to sponsor).
If we get high enough interest, I know that's not going to be an issue.
So, post here and let me know if you are interested in 2006, Rotaries @ Deals Gap!

Phil, Bert (GTUser) and I have been tossing this around for a while. We both are ready for it, in fact we've been talking about going up there early by a day or two if needed so we can get more driving in, or help as needed. I would think all of the guys that came with us this year will make it again as well as most of those from the RRDI who missed it. April or May is fine, I think earlier in the year works better. Less traffic all around up there then like we had this year. Glad you started the thread, 6 months sounds like a long time but it should really give us what is needed to pull off another great meet!

I agree with Greg, TurboII, everyone from the RRDI that went had a blast and we're all looking forward to next year's event. We have several guys that want to go that now realize what they missed last year and are planning on coming to the 2006 Deals Gap Rotary Rally. I'll be surprised if the attendance for 2006 doesn't double. Then where are we all going to gather?
We have talked about having a few of us from Raleigh arrive on Thursday to be there all day Friday to meet new arrivals, have handouts, schedules, other information about the drives, lodging, meal arrangements, etc. I think an organized presence at Fontana to help get people information and answer questions is an important feature for the 2006 gathering.
I like the mid April time period since its just before schools are out and the traffic starts picking up and we can still get the reduced room rates. We need to be able to carry through on planned activities and improve on how the drives are organized. The Cherohala Skyway drive is a must for Friday morning or Sunday morning.
Now that we all are more familiar with the area and the Tail of the Dragon we can better plan the activities and anticipate what can be done during the event. I think most everyone enjoyed the rotary gathering, the driving, being in the presence of so many beautiful cars and meeting other owners and the fact that you weren't required to pay thru the nose to be a part of such a great gathering.

I like the mid april date to. I will be with the RRDI and would also arrive early and help wherever needed.
One suggestion; We met Fri the BBQ place and Sat we had BBQ... could we throw a hot dog or hamberger in ther some where.

I liked the dam and if I remember correctly there was a lower parking lot. Maybe we could use both if necessary.

Great Suggestion Bert!
I also like the "Deals Gap Rotary Rally 2006". I think we should call it that!
I agree with you about being more organized. This year I'm hoping to assign some duties to those who could volunteer. ie cleaning, passing out maps and schedule, group leaders who will watch 10 cars and make sure they behave, etc.
I would like next event to be bigger than this past event. But I think more people means more problems. I was thinking about this at this years event.
Anyhow, please post more suggestions!
Better we plan, better time we'll have up there.

I know, We'll definitely have burgers and dogs on friday night, BBQ saturday, and Philip's restaurant on sunday.
Also, I didn't know how to get down to the lower level of the dam until later that day. At that point, it was too late.
If we have 60+ cars, we'll definitely move to the lower part of the dam.
Phil
Phil the event last year was awesome. You should be able to get more volunteers to help.
Just a quick note: but don't tell Bert, people with white RX7's like white T shirts... 100% cotton.... ex large

Phil,
Im looking foward to going. I am quite a bit more familiar with the roads than I was last year. I will volunteer to be a group leader for the spring event. I can also go up early to welcome people or whatever if need be.

Dates I'm thinking of are: April 7, 8, and 9th, 2006 (Friday thru Sunday) or April 14, 15, and 16th, 2006
Also, I'll ask Fontana Village if they would give us the same rate as this past event.
