Comment on www.Killboy.com (about Mazda Rotaries @ Deals Gap)
I just went to check out www.killboy.com and read this;
I think this is awesome that deals gap communities are giving thumbs up! Especially from KillBoy who's been to almost all the events on the Tail of the Dragon.
The Mazda Rotary club came up Saturday for their first event. They had a lunch at Fontana Dam first thing and asked me, Rob Seneker, and the NCHP to come speak to the group about the area. It was pretty interesting hearing the HP talk...they didn't get a lecture but he made some realistic points and just asked everyone to use their head. We covered some basic etiquette and of course the lane crossing thing. I only heard positive comments about the group from others who were on the road, and from what I saw they were driving great and having a good time. Kudos Rotaries!

Agreed, that reminds me, I was going to send a commendation letter to the NCHP for the way Trooper Sama stepped up and handled Graham County's presentation and gave us his perspective on TOTD. I want to let him, and his superiors, know that we really appreciated his willingness to visit with us and give us some comments on that section of road. I think he really appreciated the cars and our invite.
I think this effort to involve the local LEOs was important to let them know we are serious about our driving, our rides, and the safety of everyone, including the others we met on the road. From the trooper's remarks to me the other groups don't seek out the LEOs and include them in the events. Maybe that will differentiate us as a more responsible group of owners/drivers.

Ok, I am REALLY interested in Deal's Gap. Is Deal's Gap basically a 'natural' autocross track? I don't mean as in you go whereever you want on the road, but that it's considered 'ok' to let loose and have some fun (within reason and safety, that is)?
