Caravan to Deals Gap in April

Anyone from the Triad area planning on doing the Tail of the Dragon the second weekend in April? There are about a half dozen guys, at this point, from the Raleigh Rotary Drive-in planning on making the trip out there. We could hook up with y'all off I40 and drive up together.

Sounds like y'all have enough rotary owners to form the start of a good rotary club. Someone should annouce a meet somewhere between WS and G'boro and see how many owners turnout.

I had kicked around the idea but couldn't decide. I've never driven that stretch of road, but heard good things about it. I guess one of the things keeping me from wanting to go stems from my old motorcyle days....get a bunch of people together and somebody tries to show off and gets hurt........ I just don't want them taking out my car when they do it!

rotorsownyou7,

here's a pic of my car. Can't say enough good things about rotorsports, my rx7 has never run better. Wish I was building a 20B like brian...maybe someday. Which car was yours?

Haha, mine is the crazy pink one! I bought the car blown with the crazy paint job, but have actually gotten fond of it, it isn't too bad.

Damn, didn't know there were THAT many rx-7's around Winston-Salem. I've seen a red one, maybe a black one every now and then, but I usually don't realize it's an FD until after I pass it. Dunno if any of you guys have seen me before, but I drive a white 1st gen that sort of looks like a beater, with a dent in the front left fender. I'm eventually going to get it fixed, but other things have been more important (such as a bent strut and a broken watts linkage due to the previous owner hitting a curb. I now have a LSD rear-end from my '83 GSL parts car, and plan on tackling the strut, then the dent.)

P.S. Yea, I know, the thread is a little old, but I'm kind of excited to see that so many people in the W-S/G-boro area post on here. You'll usually see me on 421, Business 40, Silas Creek Pkway, Lewisville-Clemmons Road, or at Advance Auto in clemmons, trying to get parts to fix my car I also work at Sagebrush off of Stratford road, and park by the road, so you might have seen my 7 in the parking lot from time to time.

Yep, I see quite a few around here, but didn't realize there were THIS many, and I didn't even BEGIN to think so many people would be on this forum!

BTW, Phil's selling his car. HELLUVA deal. I'd buy it myself if I hadn't already put so much into mine....

Yeah, I can't believe he's finally doing it either. I know he just spent virtually a year without the car, and now the engine's blown again, but damn, the ONLY thing wrong with it is the engine! I really feel like I'm letting one slip away. For that amount of money I about guarantee some punk's gonna buy it and trash it........

I'm just afraid he's gonna regret it too. There's nothing else out there for the money with the performance of that car. I think he's considering a M3 now.

well, I can definetly understand the frustration. I would probably do the same thing in his shoes. After a while, you just get tired of the BS with the engine. Of course, you can't go wrong with an M3!

Like you say, hope some ******* doesn't get it...

Y'all have definitely got enough rotaries in the TRIAD area to have a nice size group. You should try to begin meeting in the spring.

Speaking of spring, any rotary owners from teh triad going up to Deals Gap in April? The Raleigh group will be caravaning up and should pass thrur there on Friday, 4/8. We could all meet for lunch, or maybe a late breakfast, somewhere and then headout on I-40. We're trying to workout hooking up with the guys from eastern NC as they come thru Raleigh headed to western NC. It would make a nice drive to get all the rotaries together.

Well hopefully my car will be running before his is sold and he can take a ride and we can talk him into keeping it and throwing an LS1 in it!!! You are right, it would be as shame to see that car go. Hey Hooman... I am really glad you decided to leave your dremel here... I cant begin to tell you how many times that thing has come in handy!

Heeey, Jonathan...you must be the one he was talking about! He was saying he wanted to see how your swap went. I guess that was a route he was considering at one point. Holy crap I can't imagine trying to do that though! I put a different engine in another car of mine one time and never did get all the details worked out. Definitely a lot to be consdered with doing a swap like that! But best of luck to you! Let us know when it'd done so we can all ogle over it!

Heh, I move to the Triangle and all of you guys come out of the woodwork. It is good to hear that RX-7's are traversing my old stomping ground (there are some fun country roads out in Forsyth and adjoining counties).

I'm in Greensboro every now and then and our Mazda Club used to meet in Greensboro every other month (alternating with Raleigh/Durham). If there is interest in a gathering in the area on a weekend, I can probably make some calls and get some of the MSCCNC guys to drop in on short notice. Drop me a line if so (vp@msccnc.org) I don't have much time to surf the forums with the multiple car projects I have going on at home...

If any of you guys are interested in crashing our Durham/RTP meeting, we would love to have you out. Only 1 hr from Greensboro...would a round of soft drinks on us sway you to drive out?

BTW, I used to drive from Clemmons to inner city Raleigh once a month for the MSCCNC meetings because there was no RX-7 group in the area back in 2000...that's committed.

Yep, I am the one with the soon to be V8 rx. The swap really wasnt that bad.. There is a lot of good information out there to be had, that guides you through it. I should be starting the engine up tomorrow. My friend Steve, (the original owner of your car, Nathan) is coming over and we should be firing it up. I have to get on the ball because I have already sent in my $$$ for a VIR drivers school on March 5th and 6th.

Best of luck with that Jonathan. Funny how you almost feel like you know somebody even though you've never met them. I've heard Steve talk about you as well as Phil and Matt. I think I saw you driving at an autox one time at Dixie Classic but didn't get a chance to get down to meet you.

So how much power do you expect to have now? You were the one that was picking on sport bikes before, right?

Anyway, good luck and tell Steve I said hey. I see him on the street around here fairly regularly. And I'm jealous you'll be at VIR. I wanted to go so bad, but there's things I need to do to the car first so that I can fully enjoy a problem-free track weekend.....

Been watchin this one for awhile and couldn't help but point out that Matt got an M3 last year. Now Phil. Can Richie be far behind - or has he already done it?

Well for right now the car will have stock cam, heads, manifolds. I will just have eliminated cats and catback so I am hoping for around 350rwhp and that will be about 350-370rwtq. I will do long tubes and a cam in the near future and will be hoping to touch the 400 mark NA. I will also be putting a 150shot on it soon!!! I will def bring it out to one of the meets when it is done, prob a few auto x's also

Good point, Tomas... I don't know what Richie's driving now. Last I heard he had sold the 350 and bought a 280 or something...

Sounds pretty sweet Jonathan! That oughta feel pretty good in a light car! Do it reliably and I doubt you'll be looking back too longingly at the Wankel... I'll definitely have to check that out when you get it all buttoned up!

Sup, yall

I got a 87 tII and my buddys got a n/a. I was wondering if there is a way to have a meet somewhere here locally to meet some more fellow rotor heads rather than driving all the way out to raleigh. I recently moved to kvegas so winston and gsboro are equal distance away from me.
