3 Rotor CYM passes thru/ talks smack and it gets dusted...*questions*

Ok, I would've posted this in SE-RX7 Forum but no one was for sure where this guy was from. Here's the story: I went down to the local "Speed Shop" (really a Mustang/Camaro shop) yesterday and was told that a couple weeks ago a guy came through Muscle Shoals, AL in a 3 Rotor CYM. The owner of the shop said he stopped by the shop and was asking about the local drag strips. The shop owner told the guy that he could run his CYM at the local 1/8 mile strip on that particular night. The guy said he would be there and wanted to know if anyone wanted to race for cash. The shop owner told the guy that there would be plenty of GT guys that probably would take him up on the offer. The CYM guy said great and left.

That night at the drag strip the CYM guy made several solo passes and could not get his street radials to hook up and stayed around the 8.70s and 8.80s. Now this is the part I don't get. Apparently the CYM guy was still looking for challengers for cash. A couple GT guys said sure. First race was 100 bucks. CYM ran in the 8.80s and the GT ran in the 7.20s. Second race different GT for $150. CYM managed 8.50s but this particular GT ran 6.90s. The CYM guy then left the track never to be seen again.

So was this any of you? Anybody knows who owns a 3 Rotor CYM? If you pass through again I'd like to check your FD out.

Also, the shop owner and the other mechanics there were asking me how much power do most 3 Rotors put out. So?

Thanks for any info on who this might be because I'd like to talk to this guy. I thought it was an old wise tale at first because I'm the only FD for like 60 miles so I thought the guys were messing with me but then today I called up another guy from out of town that goes to this 1/8 miles track often and I asked him about the CYM and he told me the same story as above. Thanks again for any info.

I don't think it was much of a 3 rotor if it's running 8.50's.... Must have been NA

That's what I though to but I asked and everybody I've talked to about said it was a turbo. Apparently it seems the problem was the street radials. I can testify to the fact the this particular track is not the best for street radials but is it possible that this CYM was putting down so much power that it just couldn't hook?

well first off, if whoever this was did a 3-rotor conversion on the FD then you KNOW the guy isnt going to cheap out on making sure that ******'s got power, otherwise what's the point? a built 3-rotor on a decent sized single with all the expected bolt ons is gonns smack a good 600+ to the pavement, and on street radials, i 'd pay money to see them stick

Yeah, I personally would go N/A 3 rotor just because I want to hear that thing idle. I doubt i'd really ever drive it around, I'd just listen to it and rev it like crazy. VOOOOM VOOOOOOOOOOM! Or maybe just 4 rotor it and be done with it.

You just don't know. It might have been some bigmouth car enthusiast with a little money who bought it as a 3rotor expecting to thrash everything in the world, but didn't know s**t about what's under the hood.

Pity the Ferrari owners who are serious gearheads - there are plenty of Ferrari owners who wouldn't know a sparkplug from a suppository embarrassing their group.

One last possibility: this driver was *******, to set up to cash in on a much bigger bet. Good pool sharks almost never show their capabilities.

What sort of homosexual would go to a drag strip and race for money without proper tires?

8.5 1/8? So thats like what? A high 12 maybe 13 second 3 rotor turbo? Thats pathetic. If I were the driver I wouldn't want anyone to find me. There are 2 rotor 2nd gens that will spank that with ease.

Sure maybe it was all because he couldn't hook for ****. But why bother racing for money if you know you can't hook at all?

like dgeesaman said, dont be surprised if this guy comes back around looking for big money races. I play the game all the time, and have cashed in quite a bit of money in the process.

HAHAHA yea at least it runs..... I can't get traction on the track with my 13b on street tires so there is a possibility that he can't hook so his et is slow, but that's where mine is on BAD runs..... Maybe he's just some cocky kid or maybe he was doggin it to make big money later..... I dunno. I don't race for money cuz I feel bad takin people's money... =)

I remember reading an article like a year ago about a cym with a 20b that I *think* was put together by Pettit Racing. I do remember reading that he lived in Little Rock, AR, and was having a widebody Toyota MRS being built for his girlfriend. I think I read he was putting down around 550whp? Hope that helps.

Well, that sure is awesome that this thread got moved! Now if the guy wasn't from the SE region we'll never find him. That's why I said what I did in the first damn line. Maybe no one cares but sometimes I wonder why I even stay around this damn forum. Thanks Mods of the 3rd Gen Section once again.

I agree... I think he was either sandbagging, or he wasn't spooling quick enough for the 1/8th... It would seem to me that a built 20B should generally have a pretty goddamn big turbo attached to it, and without at least a half bridge, he would barely be making full boost by the 1/8th anyways... He shoulda got a damn hotel and waited until they were running the 1/4...
