Video of my lap of the nurburgring from sunday
Guys,
Just got back from a trip to the nurburgring, heres a video of my lap! 8.37 was the laptime. Pretty chuffed with the considering the fastest ever tourist lap recorded is 7:57.
It was a good trip, and if anyone knows a real estate developer guy called Ben from New York who was over with his friend John to pick up his new GT3RS from stuttgart and then drive it round the nurburgring, please point him to this thread as he wanted the video but forgot to swap emails!
Any comments or tips welcome....just a shame about the traffic. Clear run and i reckon thats an 8:15 at least.
Enjoy!

Tyres are 225/40/R18 front, 255/35/R18 rear. Both are michelin pilot sport 2's - very grippy tyres, especially when warm (notice the wobble at the beginning of the lap when the tyres are cold? hehe)
I learn the track with a combination of experience and Xbox. That was only my 18th lap, and ive only done 20 in total now, but once youve actually driven the track a console really helps you piece together those sections you sortof know so you can drive the track in your head and thus know where you can stay flat on the circuit.
A guy i was there with is running a 400whp RX7 on toyo R888s and lapping at 7:50 or so. Insane!
Temps wise coolant doesnt really go over 115, and stays between 100-110 most of the time. Intake temps top out around 70 degrees c or so. I really need to address that as you can really feel the power loss as you move around the circuit, but until i can be bothered to make a V mount it will have to do. Im toying with the idea of fully stripping the car, no air con, no dash board, no rear seats, carpets, sound deadening etc but im not sure...I like it as a road car too.

Personally, I'd play with tires before tearing out the creature comforts. R888s (the successor to the RA-1) are a good semi-streetable track tire. The RA-1s are tough, grippy, and don't lose too much grip by putting on miles.
It's interesting what you said about the PS2 tires - I co-drove a guy's Miata at an autocross school last month and we put a LOT of runs on his tires. Our times kept getting better as the day progressed. While it's not track duty, they sure did do some heavy work. But I had been running on my v710s earlier that day, and no doubt about it the PS2 is just a street tire.

Looks like great fun, wish the vid was better quality, though.
That's not too surprising that you would practice on Forza. I always do well at auto-x events if I play Forza the night before.
BTW, everyone, chuffed = happy.

Holy ****! I have never been so intensely focused on a video before! You made those other cars look like they were driven by some old blue hairs on a sunday. Very nice driving
And for Christ's sake, slow it down! lol

that was insane, loving it. This video reminded me of that M3 who set the fastest record on the ring... He was just passing everyone like you did, but just alot crazier. But still, nonetheless, u've got a nice car and you've got good skill bro =) Thumbs up for u.
I agree your skill is amazing for sure. and forza seems to be a pretty good game for getting ones self in the mood. I love to have whiskey and auto-x forza nights the night before a rallyx or autox or drift event or whatever. it just gets your mind thinking about throttle control and proper lines.
i knew a guy who played some much gt4 he could literally pretend to drive the ring and know each part of the course in order. it was interesting to watch to say the least
