400+hp rx7 vs 600+hp supra

unfortunately it doesn't look like much, but we went from a roll going about 70. stopped about the top of 4th so somewhere around 130-140.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egIcSyyy-6k

Supra is capable of close to 1000hp but clutch slipped on the dyno so its tuned for 630 hp or so on the street. big single fully built. 3.2 liters, etc etc. also a top secret wide body!... ok, not that it makes it faster, but looks cool!

ps. This was on a really long straightaway of a local track... ;-) oh and camera car was an rx-8.

Sweet.

What's the difference between a 300hp, 600hp, and 1200hp Supra? They all run the same 1/4 mile! I guess this is proof why RX-7's are so much fun with much less power.

if the supra is capable of 1000 hp, then it would explain the MASSIVE lag anyone can clearly see... also, its fast ***

im not hatin on the supra, its #2 on my list of cars to own after graduating from my university.

oohhh ask me!

I've owned a supra before, one bad *** car! Which is better? The supra is definately more reliable, thats cause its 1000 pounds heavier. BUT,.... nothing compares to a worked FD. And if you have the money why have a worked supra engine when you can have a 20B! Ask Turbotommy about his race with the 900hp supra......BYE BYE! Oh did I mention it was on 12 PSI?

1000lbs heavier??

Did your supra have a bunch of bricks in the hatch you didnt know about?

FD is 2800lbs
Supra is 3400lbs.

And yes if the supra is "capable" of 1000hp, that means he's runnign a LARGE single hence the bad bad turbo lag.

But i know people expect to see that reply from me but here is a change.

NICE RUN, WAY TO GO!! FAST FD!!!!

There.

Both cars look beautiful. Congrats. Hard to judge speed from behind. I would love to see other angles of a run like that.

i don't think we could have gone much lower gear wise, its funny though, neither of us have working horns, so i just waited until i heard him get on it and then i left him... obviously if we kept going i'm sure he would have zoomed past me, but that would have been in 5th gear and over 140... i just get to rib him about his "slow" car now! He's one of my good buddies, so its a lot of fun cruising around with him. once that car does get on boost though... wow!

has anyone seen a power curve of a 600hp supra on a 1000hp turbo?
compare that to a rx7 with a good gt30/35r and you will see 1 half of the reason the rx7 wins

max HP is one thing but if your only at that HP for 2000rpm, whats the use innless your in 4th going 140mph?

a good setup on a 7 will yield good power from 4000 to 8000+

Factor in the weight difference between the 2 cars and you will get a better power to weight ratio in more of the gear in the rx7.

Yes the supra makes a better power to weight ratio PEAK, but thats it.

yes the supra would win in the 150mph range...BUT
in a standing mile the rx7 would be MUCH quicker.

with all that said Id love to have that supra.

Thumbs up on the win.

Thumbs down on the choice of "track."

Kinda suicidal/homicidal to mess around at those speeds when there are other cars on the same road ahead of you.

A good setup on a supra will yield good power from 4000-redline as well. ITs just that with a 1000hp supra, its gonna be a fairly large turbo. The bigger the turbo, the more lag you get. Its that simple. Put the same turbo on the FD and you will see the same lag.

And um a standing mile, the rx7 wont be quicker. You do know a large single matched with the getrag 6spd on the supra is basically lethal right?

Why do you think all supras roll? Because they reign on top end. Thats why even 700rwhp supras can already keep up with 1 liter bikes. Their gearing is almost perfect.

Look at this old old video for example.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL_ORYNbcns

Its the walser supra. STOCK bottom end with a 70 shot and other goodies. I believe it made 920rwhp, i cant remember.

Took a hayabusa, the quickest bike in the world at the time. Remember a hayabusa is a 1.3 liter bike, runs 9s STOCK.

And this is a highway run. Supra gears are perfect.

your absolutly correct but THIS supra with a turbo that will flow CFM for "1000hp"
will not spool by 4k ALSO what do you think the redline is?

you are correct GENERALLY a well done supra is a very fast car but IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE the 7 will be faster in the mile.

If the 2JZ isnt stroked, it can still make power well beyond 8 grand just so you know.

So you're talking about the 2 cars in this vid? The 400hp rx7 vs the 600hp supra?

If the supra has the getrag, the supra will be faster in the mile. Sorry but thats fact. You obviously havent rode in a high hp supra to know that the speedometer needle moves as fast as some of the regular cars' tachometer. The car doesnt stop accelerating.

There.
excuses excuses.....he should have break boosted then.

that rx7 looked way sexier...especially since it was smoking that pig.
nice kill.

i like how u gave a high weight for the fd and a low weight for the supra....typical.

I agree with this for sure. its not an everyday thing that we do, or weekend fun stuff, it was just after he got his car outta the shop and we just wanted to play around. only did about 3 runs, and just straight, with very little other traffic. I don't play around when other cars are present. (IE swerving in and out etc, or racing past other cars.)

Nah, you didnt do anything wrong. The road looked clear up ahead.

I hate people who swerve in and out of lanes too, its not safe at all. Blind spot and you're done.

Btw, why were you blowing smoke after you guys shut down? Bad turbo?
