Willow Springs Raceway - 2000 Honda Civic

I know no one wants to see FD's get **** on by a Honda but damn, Jack Mardikian is an amazing driver. For those that don't know he drove the Twins Turbo built FD RX-7 that set the unlimited RWD record at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

Damn that civic is fast. I never knew there were that many FD race cars out there; that was probably the nicest part for me.

Not bad, even through the high speed corners all the the little 2.0 FWD is gaining ground on all the RWD sports cars...

And funny how he passes like 5 cars in the first minute lol

I still believe we need to put the R-Magic or Panspeed FD3S around those tracks to break some records.

The reason why he's passing everyone is because he's driving a piece of **** honda like a mad man and cutting and diving in front of cars that are 4 times the cost and they all get out of his way so they dont' get their cars ruined. You can see most of the other drivers are taking the turns on the outside and not to the inside to let this crazy aggressive driver through. No way this honda would beat a full blown race viper with a top notch driver in it.

First off, this is the same driver who drives the Redline Time Attack RX-7 which everyone has seen battle the Supra 2 years ago and set a class record at this same track last year. He's a great driver, no doubt, and Willow is probably his home track. Next, the Civic is probably a LOT lighter than all those other cars to help balance out the power difference. Depending on the track, he probably can be much quicker than the heavier cars in the field. However, I'd bet he'd be lacking in a really high speed track with lots of straights. His advantage in that car is definitely in the corners on that track.

He was going really hard in the beggining of the race. If im one of those FD drivers, Id be cautious and make sure he's not close to hitting me or something....by the looks of the video, he was cutting it pretty close though.

Where's that video of him driving the Time Attack Rx7???

Sounds like excuses to me...yes he was aggressive in the start but thats a part of competitive road racing. You can see him gain on the blue FD around ~3:50 just by hitting his apex and the FD kinda driving by it.

Heres him driving the RX-7 on Buttonwillow against the Twins Turbo Supra:

AWESOME video!!!
like many of us, i started out with a honda and moved up when i felt i needed a change. This guy is truly a great driver. The honda is alot lighter and is faster around the curves. I agree with Mahjik, on a track with more straights he wouldnt be so ahead of the pack.

It's a race, not a car show; you think they're "getting out of his way" because they want to? Oh, and the Viper shown in the video is a "full blown race viper".

There's a clear difference in driving ability shown in the video. That's all there is to it. Of course, that Civic is definitely at a high level of tune as well, and probably costs just as much as a lot of the other cars its competing against.

Doesn't look/sound like any RX7 I've seen
