Jack Mardikian - Willow Springs Raceway - 2000 Honda Civic
It's a race, not a car show; you think they're "getting out of his way" because they want to? Oh, and the Viper shown in the video is a "full blown race viper".
There's a clear difference in driving ability shown in the video. That's all there is to it. Of course, that Civic is definitely at a high level of tune as well, and probably costs just as much as a lot of the other cars its competing against.

The reason why he's passing everyone is because he's driving a piece of **** honda like a mad man and cutting and diving in front of cars that are 4 times the cost and they all get out of his way so they dont' get their cars ruined. You can see most of the other drivers are taking the turns on the outside and not to the inside to let this crazy aggressive driver through. No way this honda would beat a full blown race viper with a top notch driver in it.
Nice vid BTW
Sounds like excuses to me...yes he was aggressive in the start but thats a part of competitive road racing. You can see him gain on the blue FD around ~3:50 just by hitting his apex and the FD kinda driving by it.
Heres him driving the RX-7 on Buttonwillow against the Twins Turbo Supra:

(as I remember looking it up when that video came out).
At the time that run was done, his car was listed as 440 on the XS Engineering site:

I think the blue FD heat soaked his engine when he was battleing the Viper. Because before that, the Civic was having trouble catching up, but right after the viper, the Civic easily passed the tired blue FD.
Here is a bit of information regarding those FD's. I beleive they are running Naturally aspirated motors.
Built by SEVENSONLY
Power: 265hp
Weight: 1795 lbs.
Tube frame/fiberglass body
No turbo heat soaking here RUOS.
Also, the civic weighs around 2300-2400lbs with about 253hp

The tube frame 12a peripheral ported non turbo'd FD's race in their own class for a separate championship and therefore have no interest in blocking or getting dicey with any other car.
Some of the FD's lines were shall we say speed depriving. And they run on TOYO's which aren't as fast as Hoosier or Kumho.

Not sure if you saw the whole video or not, but it clearly states "Jack Mardikian wins Super Unlimited race with a 2000 Honda Civic Coupe H1 car." The video also cuts off before the end of the race.
so, now that we have HP #s out of the way. What suspension does that lil thing have?
It doesn't look like the other cars are being very aggressive when they let him pass.
No sound though so I'll have to wait till I get home to really get a good impression of the the vid.

To clarify, the viper was in a different class
