should be, last time it was running it was tuned to 440whp at 17psi. Just need to finish putting it back together, swap in a Koyo rad, and finally use that T76 I've had laying around for a few years lol

here's some pics of the damage.

specs on the car:
New peripheral ported motor, built by smokin Joes
Power FC w/commander
3.5" turbo back exhaust w/2 resonators
99 JDM ball bearing turbo's run in parallel
440whp @17psi (needs a bigger radiator to go further)
new return line
Walbro fuel pump
Greddy intake elbow (whatever it's called lol)
Greddy BOV
FMIC Kit
polished manifold and piping
have a bunch of suspension parts from Smoking Joes to install too, some bracing and watnot for the rear.
Also have a 99 JDM rear assembly to swap in also with the subframe bars.
will be going to a big single shortly, just looking for a good manifold to use.

Not a Peripheral Port motor unless you have a custom LIM.

it is, Car was a friends that he totaled. I'm not 100% sure on everything, but that was on the motor's receipt from Joe.
I haven't owned a rotary since 2001, so It have to relearn all this stuff again lol. When the motor does blow (which they always do) I'm swapping in a single turbo LS1

Congrats on getting it up and running again. It's an awesome feeling when a new motor comes to life for the first.

But.....as stated earlier, you can't use the stock LIM on a P-port. And even if the fatory twins could produce 440whp at 17psi (and they can't) you deffinatley wouldn't get anywhere close with stock injectors and a single walbro. With that being said I would question ALL the work listed on the receipt....

Either way, congrats again on getting it running, and good luck getting the body and suspension back up to par. Keep us posted!

I just picked up the car techinically yesterday.
As for what I've seen, dyno sheets, I know Smokin Joes for many many years, they built my last car.
I'm ot arguing since I'm new again at the rotary game. Either way it's getting a single T76, as for fuel system, I haven't really gone over it yet, I haven't even brought the car to my shop yet to really mess with it. Only time will tell whats done to it fully. I'll try to get the full list of work this week.
as for 440whp on 99 turbo's, I've heard from numerous sources that that setup is good to @500whp on a well built motor, so I don't see why it's so hard to believe the power it's supposedly making.
Once I drive it I will know, my other car is making 440whp at the moment (2006 cobalt ss/sc turbo swap see sig)
It's also not on stock injectors either, As I said, I'm 100% sure whats in the car, I just know what the guy that I got it from told me. Unforunately Joe closed up shop a few months back so I need to track him down and see what he did exactly to the car. I do know it was at his shop for a few months though and kid put about 6k into the motor and turbo setup.

It's probably a half-bridge or maybe a full bridge port. What does it idle at?

sounds like a mild or aggressive street port to me.

Its definitely not peripheral ported.

idle is a little high, but I dunno. I'm tearing into the car this weekend and should have it "driveable" by sunday if the steering rack shows up this week. Then we will see. I'm trying to get in touch with Joe (smokin joes) to see exactly what was done to the motor and what it was tuned for.

better work out a good fuel system before the motor goes POP. 20 bucks says the the turbos are ported, and BTW welcome to the rotary game, nothin like it, youll spend more money on this car fixing it (from seeing how much power you want) than anything else. If you already have a kid, congradulations you just brought another one into your family, nothing like having to keep dropping tons of dough on a rotary.

l thanks, this is actually my second rotary, I had an 86 about 8 years ago.
As for reliablility, lol, I know it's legendary..
I have another car I race and a Jeep so I'm covered transportation wise. I'm still debating on what to do with this car, things have changed a lot since I did my last rx. definitely going single turbo though.
As for this setup, yes the turbo's are ported and some other work done to them according to the previous owner. I'm gettin all receipts of the work done so I'll at least know where I'm starting.
As for the motor, I know it was worked quite a bit by smokin joe's and the dude put a lot of money into getting the right parts. So hopefully it lasts a year lol.
My damn cobalt is making 440whp on a stock motor at 43k miles, so I don't see why a built rotary can't last a bit.

yeah, I havent had any problems with mine either. I bought a motor from japan which many people say dont even bother putting one in without rebuilding. Ive put 5k on the motor and it still runs like a beaut.

just make sure she stays real cool and you wont have any problems. The cooler the better. I highly recommend going v-mount when you go single turbo and get a vented hood, your rad will get the best flow and your engine will love you for it. Drive with the twins at first, you prob wont regret staying twin with 440 WHP in a 2700 pound car i wouldnt even bother changing the turbos, your **** will catch and fly like a bat out of hell. just having 300 horsepower in my car feels impressive i couldnt imagine 440.
Keep checking up on the engine work, Like firebird said, i highly doubt its peripheral ported you do need a custom LIM not to mention they usually dont turbo PPorted engine. The cups on the port that give the Peripheral port its distinguised sound wouldnt fit under the stock manifold. It probably has a fat street port, from the sounds its puttin out on your vid. But other than that, great build.
hows the torque steer from that cobalt? I havent raced on yet so i dont know how impressive they are. I wouldnt be surprised if you threw up a for sale sign on the cobalt after you drive your 7. 7s are just too fun.

Cobalts really not too bad torque steer wise, just the spinning the tires up to 120mph is the problem, car still spins third with mickey thompsons on it (26x9.5 18's)
I am upgrading to the koyo radiator once it comes in, I had huge problems with my 86 with it running hot so did a bunch of cooling work to that thing so I'm used to it. Cobalt isn't going to be sold, I'm actually finishing a race motor for it once the head comes back from the machine shop (full cnc job, big valves, etc) should have that sitting around 500whp or so.
Rx-7 is mainly going to be a toy since I got it rediculously cheap and all the major expensive work has been done already, it gives me room to play.
listening to the car more, I do think it's more a really aggressive street port on the motor, Just wish I could find the guy that built it to get exact specs, but it was done on a pretty high budget and for some serious power potential. I have a Turbonetics CBB T76 laying around that i've been trying to find a home for, so I guess the RX would be a better choice than my jeep lol.
I should have the car at least able to drive this weekend so I'll see what power it really has. Hopefeully the front hub isn't f'd cause that's the only part I haven't been able to find yet.

got some more info on the car too, motor was apparently built to handle anything you throw at it (up to 50psi), stock primary injectors, 1600cc secondary injectors, supposedly twin fuel pumps (will verify this next weekend). Also ran a vin check on the car and it came back as a clean titie, so it might be easy to register after all
