I could see how you think that, but actually before I welded in the shock I was able to calibrate it. I set it up so the door stays wherever I put it. I’ts rather light to the touch.

Kafka used a Weld On kit... GT Factory which is considered universal because it has to be welded.. also there is a hole that needs to be cut from the inner chassis wall... I have installed this kit before but its quite a bit of work with all the welding.. The wire harness does need to be lengthened since its snorkel cover is rather short.. I found that sliding the wires between the dash and Pillar actually worked best on some applications.

Kafka's FD looks sharp but I am not a fan of 90 degrees... to me it doesnt look quite right.. having owned a 1988 Lamborghini Countach back in 1990 the door did not go up as high.. its what gave it that exotic look...

My kits are Direct bolt on and NO welding required.... It only goes up to 80 degrees and it uses a single German Shock... after removing the fenders the install takes me less than 3 hours to complete... the tedious part is extending the door wire harness.

My FD Zondervan Lambo Kit sells for $689.00 Plus shipping.

post some pics of your work... and why is your kit almost $600 cheaper than the normal kits?

LOL... I totally forgot about having to extend the wire harness. That was my least favorite part. I might have to try running the harness through the pillar next time I feel like playing with it. The angle of the doors are adjustable. Time of the pics I had them at 90 now they are more around 70 degrees or so.

I'm curious about your FD Zondervan Lambo Kit I don't remember coming across it when I was researching the conversion. Post some pics of an install and the hinge. You have a web page too?

That’s funny that used to own a 1988 Lamborghini Countach. A dream car of mine is the 25th ann. Which was my inspiration for me to convert to vertical doors.

The simple reason is that I CAD designed my own kit.. I have an Airframe EA and Heavy Structures Engineering background. I got it down to a tee and had them manufactured to my specs... I sell a lot of these kits because my price is just right as well as the quality. You wont be dissapointed. Think about it this way.. if i was to charge you $1,200.00 would you buy it ? Think of what you could do with the extra 600 bucks... perhaps get that engagement ring your girlfriend wants

BTW, My kits are normal also

Here is a pic of the wiring by the pillar and dash.
.. and a partial pic of the kit.. Soldering the wires is the best thing.. I dont recommend solderless but connectors because it would be too bulky and may bind...I dont put the whole pic out there for obvious reasons:

so is stationary headlights and they come on a lambo too...

if i get serious about your kit i'll pm ya, welding isn't a problem with me, nor is soldering... just need to get alot of the other parts to the car before i start changing up the doors... care to post some pics of the doors up so i can see how hard it would be for me to get in the car? and does the kit go up like that on an angle?

Remember that all doors have to open to some degree to clear the AC vent hump.. and then it goes up... its adjustable enough so you can detail it to how far an angle you would like.. some people like to make a statement so they have them swing out at an angle.. its really personal preference... Send me an email to: xochifuquarx7@yahoo.com

I may have a nice attractive offer for you... include your phone number

for me if i really wanted to do it for statement, i'll go with delorean doors instead of lambo.

I am making those also... just a little harder to do with an FD due to the lack of a door frame... on the FC its a lot more feasible... what i have seen on the FD is Butterfly (MC Claren) doors.... i have a pic of one of those done on a white FD

I do recommend crimping, you just have to know how to modify harness to retain stock diameter and flexibility. With the right tools and parts...crimping is far more superior than soldering

on the note of this thread...FD's actually have a nice door handle to compliment vertical doors.

The White FD does not have Delorean Doors (Gull Wing) but rather Mc Claren (Butterfly Doors See Pic Below) type doors... the main hinge system is mounted on the A Pillar... quite a bit of reinforcement takes place at the A pillar... i am still working on that.

This is an example Only !!! of what the Mc Claren doors look like on nothing less than a Mc Claren.. but i have a pic at my office that has one done on an FD ...

I crimped mine. Had a couple of them pull out and a few times they would bind in the door. I have since fixed the problem.

You have me going back now and thinking what I would do differently.

I just had a revelation: When extending the wiring harness why not use a pair of 2 foot IDE cables from on-line or local computer store. $5-6. Cut the ends off or find a way to crimp the harness in the connector. Wala a flexible/pretty/shielded new harness. Just throwing ideas out their. What do you think? I'm sure at this stage in your design its equivalent to reinventing the wheel.

That is what R&D work is all about... reinventing... finding new ways... etc etc etc..
I already have in production extended wire harnesses for the FC & FD in two sizes.. +6 inch and +9 inch. These look identical to the stock snorkel wire harness and it comes with its own personality plugs just like the one you have in your car now. The person that buys a kit will no longer have to splice and dice and crimp or solder wire harnesses in order to extend them. In my first kits that I produced almost 3 years ago I had extra harnesses made of colored wire and heat shrink wrap tubing but they were a bit primitive and bulky. Wait til you see the ones i am producing now... you will be able to take the ones you have off now and just replace it with these new ones. I am not sure if i am going to offer them as an optional item and charge separately or incorporate them into the kits now.

O-Man that would have come in handy a year ago. You willing to post a pic of that. If you decided to sell them as an individual item let me know.
