Exclamation Check out the new video of my 1st Gen Restoration!

I posted this in the 1st gen section also.

I put together some old footage of my first gen and made a movie that shows the car being brought back to life. Thought it would be neat to make something out of all of the movies I collected of the car.

It was a 2 1/2 year project, and I miss that old car. I'm contemplating buying another first gen in the near future. Anyway, enjoy the video everyone. I spent a couple of days putting it together. It is about 40 megs and 5 minutes long. I have posted it on Google and YouTube. I think all of you 1st gen fellas will get a kick out of it. Let me know what you think. Later!

i have an '83

been many dollars spent on a car i paid $250.00 ( running pretty well ) for. Since then........ rebuilt carb, rebuilt motor, new Eibach's, removal of rats nest, smog pump and stock fan... the list goes on. My girlfriend and family don't understand. Sometimes I don't. But since the first time I opened mine up, I've been hooked on rotaries.
I hope mine looks like yours some day. All my work has been of mechanical origin. Now that it is FINALLY running and riding right, the cosmetics come.
Was that a 13b?.. was it ported? I figured a header and probably a Holley... Anyway...sweet ******' ride!

I know this thread is a year old and I'm reviving it, Glazed Ham, I have the stock brown interior on my 85, and I want to change it to all black, put a custom wheel and gear shifter in with black CF center console. how did you reupholster your carpet and where did you get it from? Did you just straight up paint your dash? any tips for re-doing the interior, how long did just the interior take you?

Hey! Thanks for watching the video! The black interior conversion wasn't really too bad. The carpet is actual black carpet out of an 83 GS that I used for parts. Take all your carpet out and take it to the car wash and pressure wash it on the soap setting. Rinse it out with the pressure washer. Then sit it out in the sun to dry for the rest of the day. Vacuum it really good after it is finally dry. It will look like brand new. Most of the plastic pieces, and the dash I painted with black rustoleum semi-gloss. Make sure that your parts are very clean before painting. I would clean them off with lacquer thinner or something similar first. The seats are just black seat covers that I got from Autozone I think...

I sold that car about a year and a half ago and I wish I knew where it went to. I lost it after it left the forum....

My pleasure. Let me know if you run into any problems along the way. I'd be more than happy to offer any help that I can.

P.S. If you're going to be getting a new shift ****, you might as well do the Miata short throw shifter too. Get one of the $30-40 short throw shifters on ebay and follow the writeup on here. I did it to mine (83 GS) and it is really a nice change for only $30. Add your favorite black Miata shifter **** to complete the look....
