should I just go with the 1.8 intstead of the 2.1

Ok.I am not Proficient in Fuel maps,etc..I juts got into Rx7's 3 years ago.,I can fix N/A's like crazy.Figure them out,get them running and Keep them going.
So I enter NO mans land with the TII engine.
Now I get the NEED for Speed, swap in a TII engine, with an FD upper and an RTek 2.1,and I have NO friggin Idea what I am looking at when the Palm pilot is on.
So here is my Question: I am thinking of a 1.8,,run 4 x720's,a T70 and External wastegate,3 inch exhaust.
do I have to Program anything on the 1.8,compared to the 2.1?
I'm almost 50 years old,and finding it hard to teach an old Dog new tricks.
I am just Way Over my head with Programmable Ecu's,so my thought is to just get one I can install and call it a day,No punching in numbers,or the like.
Thanks Guys,if the 1.8 is my Solution,I will have A s4 n333 2.1 RTEK ECU AND PALM UP FOR SALE,Cheers Styx.

Based on what you've discuss having on your Turbo setup, you can still utilize the 2.1 for your turbo as the 2.1 is delivered with the factory tune ready to be used, assuming you've swapped in the TII harness. I cannot give an answer if you're working with a modified harness.

Assuming you've purchased the 720's, there is a provision within the Rtek that you simply "select" to accommodate the added fuel of those injectors. Now if you're adding a T70, you'll have to get into the part you're not comfortable with-actual tuning

Now i have the the same issues as you, as I'm intimidated by the whole tuning thing, but I'm going to give this stuff a try. The worst i can do is blow up an engine,LOL!

I suggest reading the manual cover to cover
http://www.digitaltuning.com/instruc...cketlogger.pdf

And watch the video.

Assuming your planning to go for more power dave ... The 1.8 won't cut it. It doesn't actually tune fuel, it has automatically set 720/720 combo. To add more power you would need an SAFC. Still need to tune right? So stay with the 2.1, that's what I think.

I'm in the same boat as you. My build is just about done, I have an rtek 2.1. Haven't even powered it up yet to browse through the menus. But i'm excited about learning to tune with it, even though i'm a little scared of losing my engine.

A 1.8 won't cut it if you're going to be using a bigger turbo. Stick with the 2.1, as it will give you the timing & fuel control you need to avoid popping your engine. Stock fuel and timing (even with the slight modifications on the 1.x chips) will not go over well with a T70. There's a good thread here that can help you get started with the tuning: https://www.rx7club.com/rtek-forum-168/afr-tuning-methods-827389/. Go very conservative with the timing and add lots of fuel, then scale back slowly.

I think I am "finding out" why I Cannot get the car running right.
NO Offense, but right now it is On a Stock N333 ECU and I am using an FD TPS.
I heard that an FD TPS cannot be "read" by the N333 Ecu and will not Interprete signal correctly.(but the RTEK can.!)
So if anyone can "solidify that TPS Statement" it will be back to the RTEK and seeing why I have a slight Hesitation when I touch the gas.
i went back to Stock injectors on this Car.
Turbo2ltr,I Perused the Video, and I am going to make it a Point to sit and Read the Darn manual until my Eyes Bug out!.( I don't want to Let this ECU go!).

There is nothing special or changed with the rtek in regards to the TPS, it's expecting the same thing the stock ECU expects, an S4 TPS. I suggest going back to the S4 TPS.

..a little More Complicated,as I have the FD upper on the engine, and Now have NO TII throttle body,or inlet piece with the IAT to Put on my Old S4 Upper manifold.
But I DO have a Couple TPS's that I am "sure" that I can Modify to Fit on the Throttle body linkage and cable area. That way I can run a S4 TPS with the FD throttle Body.
( I had to go and make a Mountain out of something Simple.)
.I had No time to Try anything Today,But I will most likely Do so Tomorrow, and Sunday.
I fully appreciate the Answers, and suggestions...I do not Feel "alone without a Clue"on this build any more.Thank you very much...Dave/STYX.

when you use the fd tps you have to rewire it to just use the switch type portion of the tps. look under the 2nd gen forum for some hints

I already rewired it Solareon.I actually made a "patch cord" that allows me to keep the FC Tps connector On the Harness..I scavenged a bad TPS cut the connector off it and attached to the FD Pigtail for the TPS..Done!.(and that allows me to switch back without having to cut wires,Etc.).
UPDATE:..Huge vacuum Leak, located at the Spacer, and the Uppert manifold,I can't get to it,unless i take the manifold off(did so about 8 times yesterday,no change..something is NOT flat!.the spacer and Upper manifold are not fitting right.)
I did put the RTEK back on.It will be left on,and I can Figure the vacuum leak out and Try starting it again on RTEK.
I'll update again. Thanks for the Input..(I got More help Just in this Post than ALL the time I had Megasquirt..NObody answered anything there.that is why I went Rtek.).
