It's what the ECU uses to determine the timing. It uses load vs. rpm based table. I think it's a combo of boost & airflow.

The update will allow us to use boost instead of load to more accurately tune timing above stock boost. Be careful and read my threads concerning this or you WILL blow your motor like me.

The Rtek does NOT recognize boost above around 8 PSI for timing. Load will be at 100% around 7-10 PSI depending on your setup.

that 7 - 10 psi is on a stock turbo right. so if i had a hybrid to4b it would be worse? what will the update include & what would i have to do to install it? all software downloading?

btw i have a 4psi spring right now & have a 8 psi spring for when i get familiar with adjusting the timing. i hope people would share info on what they changed for timing for their individual setup.

An ECU update consists of opening the ECU and swapping the EPROM.

would that have to be soldered in? if so i could just pay a good computer repair store to put it in.

No, it's already socketed. It's a pretty easy procedure.

That's info on the Rteck Stage 2 (2.0)for an s4 TII. You don't do the chip yourself...you send them your ecu...then install the chip and send your ecu back to you, then you just plug your ecu back in and hook a pda up to it and go.

why couldnt i dial down the timing more at 100% load to make up for more psi? i have a to4b turbo, 4 - 720's & walbro 255 & i plan for 12psi.

you could, thats what i do.. you will just have the same timing value from 7psi up. I think it also depends what gear you are in.. I havent looked at it much, but ill bet you dont reach 100% load at 7psi in 1st-3rd. it probably happens at lower boost in higher gears though

Max load is reached when the output signal on the afm reaches its max.(in other words when the door is pushed fully open by airflow) It's not decided by boost levels, it all depends on the ve of the eng and the cfm or airflow capabilities of the turbo or turbo's. Once you reach the limit of the flapper door your ecu is essentially blind to the fact that air flow is still increasing so it won't make any adjustments to compensate for density(mass air is determined based on the afm signal and intake air temp). It will however still adjust according to boost. What this means is that your tune (afr's) will vary with temperature and humidity. Also your timing will not retard beyond that point at whatever boost level it happens to end up at.
