Intake temps?

What are your AFM and Intake temps on your Turbo RX7's and type of intercooler? On my logs, I have 124F at the AFM and 146f at the intake at 10psi. I'm have a cone air filter in the engine bay and air to water intercooler. Outside temps were 105f. Just wondering if my intercooler is doing its job. I'd like to see your readings with stock top mount and front mount intercoolers with stock turbo. Thanks Allan

I have the stock tmic with AI and a 60-1 turbo...with that said

Without AI at 15psi I've seen temps go from 110F cruising at 60 mph in 3rd to 190F+ by the beginning of fourth at WOT. Not sure how high they would have gotten but I know they would have kept going up if I didn't shut her down, ambient temps were around 77F that night.

With 380cc windshield wiper fluid preturbo temps would generally never pass 168F. This was tested on a 1/4 mile as well as on the street and it was pretty consistent. I'm currently running 380cc preturbo and 380cc preintercooler and the highest temps I've seen were 146F at full throttle, usually it drops to around 125F though.

My cruising AIT's are around 98F-115F depending on ambient temps. All of these temp measurements are at the elbow.

Now my AFM is a different story. I cut a 3 inch hole next to the right fender and placed my air filter right above it. It seldomly gets over 100F, usually stays around 88F-98F while cruising and the same while boosting.

FWIW, to4b hybrid turbo with SRT-4 IC in front of radiator.

~65F ambient
AFM temp after quick 2nd gear pull @ ~12 psi 92F
AIT temp after quick 2nd gear pull @ ~12psi 70F

Cruising home in traffic ambient ~70F
AFM temp 106F
AIT temp 83F

This is what the logs read???

The logs appear to be in celcius (20C = 68F). Those AIT temps are so low that I wonder about the accuracy. I wonder what a new replacement sensor would read, even a replacement sensor from autozone or whatever.

Yea, I'm starting to wonder that myself?... Maybe I will try a different one?...

I'm not sure though, this morning ~60F outside after long up hill drive IAT is at 71.4 and afm at 91.6...

They are the stock sensors, not sure if they've ever been replaced? or anything... Suppose the hood scoop could be blowing cold air on it too, no tmic...

These temperature readings are making me question the accuracy of 20+ year old sensors (in the AFM and intake). Intake temps lower than ambient?

cruising on the highway at 80mph at 90F I get 120F at AFM and 125F at the IAT. At full throttle in 4th starting from 60mph to 130mph, the highest I seen is 125F at AFM, and 139F at IAT.
This is with a BNR stage 4 at 16 psi (test run)
I have a godspeed intercooler.

That is right around the temps I was getting. I'm in the process for making an air box so I'm not pulling the hot engine bay air. If I can get the temps down 20-30 degrees at the AFM I will be much happier. BTW what is your HP with the 720's and stage 4?

havent dyno'ed it yet but I ran a 13.2@105mph
Thats on 12 psi. The turbo really pushes when you set it at 16-17psi. But My injectors are maxing out at 16psi in 4th gear pulls.

I need to build a air box also. At idle, hot air from the rad is sucking into the intake. at idle at 90F ambient, its sucking in 120F air at the AFM lol, but while driving its way lower.

I had envisioned @ 12 psi trap speeds would be closer to 110 based on the HKS Stage 5 package, which I think is similar to your setup, claimed to generate ~ 345 HP @ the crank @ 12-13 psi . I'm interested to know your 1/4 mile #s @ ~ 14 psi and what the duty cycle near peak torque. thx

I havent ran 14 psi at the track. I ran 14 psi on the street before I went to the track but I was very close to 12.5 afr 5-8k rpm because of my injectors maxing out I guess. I cranked out as much fuel as I can at those rpm range in the rtek, but 12.5 is the lowest I can get it to so I didnt want to risk detonation, and ran at 12 psi.
