Be sure to have a solder sucker (similar to the thing to suck out baby boogers), and you want to be sure that you have unsoldered all the pins before trying to take it out, it should almost fall out.

Good luck, I think it was pretty easy.

You need GOOD equipment. The radioshack $5 soldering iron isn't going to cut it.

Not to scare you, but we've had several ECUs come back to us after a self-install gone bad...

What Nick said about it just falling out is right on. It's VERY easy to rip up traces if you don't make sure the solder is completely out on both ends of ALL the holes.

Use your iron to *add* solder (make sure you are using good electronics solder, not plumbing solder) before you use the solder sucker. Adding solder will add flux too which will make it easier to heat the pin all the way through the hole. If you dont get all the solder out the first time, fill the hole back in with new solder. You'll never get the pin to heat properly if you dont.

Try soldering wick. I prefer it to the sucker version

Yes, the bottom side.

Once the solder is out of the hole, make sure you can see light through all the holes. And dont use anything but your fingers to pull the chip out.

I dont know how many watts my iron is...I think it's 80 watts, but it's also temperature controlled... my main soldering station is over $1200 so don't expect much from RS.

sweet just picked up a weller 25w iron.. i got a few desoldered already wiht the braid.. really not hard.

my initial problem was attempting this with that crappy radioshack soldering iron. it wasnt transfering heat to the tip very well.
