for over 2k of posts..id assume you would know that the difference between Haltech and Rtek in that it is like night and day.

Rtek is plug and play, no rewire needed. take out your ECU send it in to digital tuning..then get it back..plug it in. Use a Palm to select your injector settings. Then tune using Palm. Bam good to go. You can drive to work the next day.

Rtek is wired into the stock harness. You only need to cut/splice/repin IF you wanna use some of the extra features. otherwise its just the same. Extra features being wideband monitoring. Thats 1 wire. EGR output Thats another wire. Alough i still havent seen what anybody uses the ERG out for.....

Tuning is done via palm pilot.

Now i haven't done a haltech but i did do some reasearch on them. Lots of wiring, some replacement of sensors, some modification of parts. (cas?) anyway I thought i might go that route after the 25 year emmisons cap passes on my 87 but i doubt it.

I believe the programs are either emailed to you from digital tuning. It may also be downloadable on their website. Either way when you buy your palm pilot (it can be any palm pilot of your choice) you have to sync it to a computer and then you can load the program on to the palm pilot from your computer. I'm not 100% sure on this because I bought my Rtek 2.1 used. I'm going to be installing it tomorrow.

Check this first. You need to make sure you can get a cable.

http://www.pocketlogger.com/?pid=faq_pda_list

Use that to help figure out which palm you want then google/e-bay and find the best deal.

ive had both. Rtek is nice for ease of install and very easy to tune if youre a noob at it, and is very affordable. works well for stock turbo power levels. needs resistors if running low-imp injectors, still stuck with AFM and 20 year old wiring harness

haltech is better if you want more power AND driveability. it supports low impedence injectors, much better user interface, although at least twice as expensive. it usually mean replacing 20 year old harness, not too bad of a job and a great upgrade in reliablity

Just curious... I have an early 87' t2 and you can drop in low imp injectors without resistors.... Just to double check, and good thing I haven't started my car yet due to the build, but does my car need resistors now? Considering you said you need resistors, judging by you probly seen in his sig that he has an 87'.

do you have this? This is the restor pack for the injectors. If its an 87 you should. front passenger side by headlamp.

Ooooh so that's what that piece was for. Thanks mang. I didn't really know where the resistor pack was, I had thought maybe it was inside the ecu or something and the rtek eliminated that. Good stuff, another thing not to worry about

Thanks again

The Rtek ecu will come back the way you sent it. The base map will be setup for stock. So it will plug in and run if it ran before you sent it.

Read the manual. Setup your presets.
