what can i expect on street tires???

alright, im scheduled to hit the strip on may 13. this will be my first attempt at drag racing in front of a tree. . . just drag racing in general, really.

anyways, i dont have any drag radials or slicks to do this on, and i doubt ill be able to afford them by the time i get to the strip (havent been payed in a month and finally get it all on the 10th). so, what im wondering is how i should go about this with my 18" rubbers. i guess i can probably just NOT hammer it very hard on the launch, but how hard would be too hard? i mean, im not gonna start at idle, hehe!!! anyways, if you guys have any input about what to expect on street tires, id be much appreciative. unless, someone wants to open up a line of credit on some tires for me.

its an FD, but a mods list or something would probably be helpful...

Actually it does not matter what his mods are. If its his first time racing, he will have a hard time breaking into the 12s with street tires no matter how much power the car makes.

at first, i wont be worrying about the R/A. thatll come later. mostly, i just want to get a feel for the strip. BUT, later on in the day (its a track day, so, ill have a good amount of time to play), i want to start upping my challenge. so, ill have to work on the R/A eventually.

I've ran 12.31 @ 116.39 on my stock FD 16's with stock street tires, and also 12.36 @ 116.8 on my 265/35/18 BFG gforce street tires. Best 60 fts are 1.83 and 1.88 on the 16" street tires, for some reason I did my best 60fts with the stock 16" tires.

stock motor, stock turbos, all the bolt ons, WB tuned by me, 16 psi, see my vBGargage for more

Your times will drop a lot after a lot of practice and after you get much better at driving at the strip (launching).

Don't drop the clutch, start learning what works best by slipping the clutch at about 4500-5k rpms, you don't want to spin the tires. My street tires really don't spin or wheel hop if I do it just right, but it is hard to do it just right.

I just got MT ET Street radials, first day on them today I got a 1.79 60 ft. I got to get better with them because my other launches were bad and slow. That good run I did a 12.31 @ only 113 for some unknown reason. So the regular street tires are just fine especially when learning and practicing before you get really good. Good luck.

For your first time w/ that hp level, I would guess around a 12.3-12.6 @ 120-122mph. Once you get the launch figured out, sub 1.8 60's, you should be down around a 11.30 - 11.50 w/ that power level pretty easily.

how'd you make out?

my first time taking the fd to the track (stock twins, non sequential @11psi) i had a 2.0 60' on kuhmo 711's (yes, even worse than 712's lol) and ran a 12.9 @110

haha, well. . . you probably did way better than me in the whole "grand scheme of things" department.

i couldnt come close to a 2.0 60', and my fastest was a 12.81 & 115ish (dont have the slip in front of me).

this was on my 18" dunlop street tires, and about 15psi on a 60-1.

im starting to think i may need to hit a dyno to see what my hp actually is now. im just hoping my engine isnt on its way out. YOWZA!!!

Not bad for your first time at the track, your times are not as good as you hoped because it takes a good amount practice to get better results, especially the 60 fts, then the ET will get much better. Your engine should be fine unless you think you car is slower than it used to be.

15psi on a 60-1 should trap faster then 115mph for sure. The ET is all driver, the trap is all car....unless you shift super slow. My 60-1 car trapped at 119.8mph at 12-13psi on a stock ported motor. 116-117mph traps are about a 340-350rwhp from my personal cars.

its hard for me to say, but i dont THINK im shifting very slow. i may be. . . and just dont know it. i mean. . . im hammering through the gears to be honest. im gonna put my car on a dyno some time shortly, and see what im ACTUALLY making and make some changes to the maps. . . and add some boost. . . maybe.

i think a majority of my problem was that i was afraid to launch the car hard. i was using A LOT of clutch. didnt wanna go blowin up my diff on my first track experience. once i get some drag radials or something, ill give a little more hell.
