I've got the transmission, differential, and everything that goes along with it (driveshaft, axles, brake assembly, etc.) out of my car so that I can replace the trans, clutch and flywheel, as well as install some chromoly axles and swap out the torsen for a TII lsd. The car is my weekend ride that I primarily drive back and forth to the drag strip. My question to third gen/drag car owners is what else could I do or would be helpful to my e.t. while I have all this stuff apart?? Thanks in advance.
I lightweight diff brace while you're at it. You'll need to install a driveshaft loop as well, they're cheap at only $20. I would also install some 3 inch studs if you plan on running 10.99 or faster
You'll also need some open-ended lug nuts.
This would be a great thread to put in the drag forum, IF WE HAD ONE !

BUT!
The studs are the only thing visible so they can't tell if you have upgraded axles/axle retainers (Depending on which wheels you run).
There are tons of rules out there. It just depends on whether your track enforces them.

why not buy a '69 Camaro for a few thousand and put tubs on it?
I don't get it, this is NOT a drag car, unless you butcher it, and you can go quicker in a Camaro for alot less money and use modified GM parts designed for the task
insane...

i believe the one of the great things about this car is that you can do both very reasonably. most if not all the mods you can do to run 11's and compete with a lot of cars at the drag strip, can be used to make your car really fast at a track or road course.

I think its funny how everybody is always hating on the people who set their cars up for drag. Sure, its not my cup of tea, but ****, I still have respect for the money, time, and hard work they put into their cars.
Its just like people who post about wanting to go LSx, then right away somebody jumps all over their back for taking the "soul" out of the car. Who gives a ****. Its what that person wants to do so if you dont have anything to help him with, shut the **** up.

first of all. i had a 69 camaro and them ***** aint cheap. they cant be had for just a few thousand anymore unless you get a BEATER and i emphasize this. you start with a heavier car(3400 on average). you can do all the weight reductions you want of course but now you still have the weak chassis to deal with(a 30yr old unibody) and just subframe connectors are never enough so you have to add a lot of weight consequently.
sorry i just had to vent.
hey crips, you can get wheel studs for a 4th gen camaro that will fit. probably quite a bit cheaper than aftermarket. fyi of course

my old h.s. bud's '69 big block Camaro did high 9s all day, and they only thing that "broke" was transmission components....don't try that with an FD....he probably had 15-18k invested, as opposed to 40k (or alot more) for an FD running 9s (and there aren't many, esp rotary powered)
and btw I'm not "hating" on lupe's car, he deserves props for all the hard work he has put into it

a V8 might last a little bit longer with with the same amount of horse power as a rotary. But when that motor on the v8 goes it will cost thousands of dollars to replace all of those parts verses 2000-3500 to get a rebuild on a rotary. Just my opinion on why a rotary is better.
big block chevys don't "go out" like a little pos rotary...they are STOUT....and built to handle the rigors of the strip
rotaries are a (FAST) ticking time bomb under high boost....there is absolutely no comparison here
either one is throwing your money down a rat hole....the rotary is just a swirling abyss by comparison
