Snap! *vid*

Went out to make some more passes last thursday. I still don't have reverse or fifth so i had to have a friend push me back into the water box, no big deal.

First pass i busted off a 10.95 @ 125. I finally backed up my 10 second pass and the mph was 3.5 less that when i ran a 10.92. I did launch off the rev limiter with a little boost. My 60' was 1.54. Here is the vid of that run:

http://www.indyhp.com/media/vids/zinx10950.wmv

It seems as though I developed a pretty good sized oil leak during this pass. There wasn't anything on the garage when i left to go to the track, but after watching the vid and looking at the trailer, something is leaking. Hopefully its an easy fix.

Just before my second pass, they sprayed vht down the whole track and got it nice and sticky. I probably should have taken it a little easier, but no, i went for broke and thats just what i did. Snapped the drivers inner axle stub.

So now, i've got an oil leak from somewhere around the engine, the tranny has to come out for the 5th and reverse problem (i have a spare currently being rebuilt), and i've got to repair the rear end. The part is in the mail per ray at malloy mazda. Damn FDs.

Hey zinx sorry about the axle shaft. Is your motor dowled? My first motor was twisted and this caused it to start leaking oil. My motor now is dowled and i have the steel pan brace. I hope that will hold it. The run still looked good, get it back up and running i like to watch the vids.

I do have a steel pan brace, but my motor is not doweled. When i saw the vid, i thought the worst so I'm hesitant to even look under the car.

Where was your first motor leaking after it twisted?

On this pass, i think i ran the 1/8th at 7.0 @ 100, not quite as good as my best.

Yes when it twist it breaks the seal at the oil pan plus with any crank pressure caused but blow by it leaks pretty good. Let us know what you find out.

Is there anyway to correct it or does the motor have to come out? The car is going on a friends lift tonight so i can start on the rear end, but i'm going to try to find the leak as well.

Yeah, just drop the subframe down. You just unbolt a few bolts and the subframe will swing down giving you enough room to pull of the pan and gasket. Just make sure you clean everything real good, buy you a tube of "The Right Stuff" from Advanced Autoparts.

Thats what i did to install the brace on the pan. Used honda bond instead of the right stuff and it worked great.

Will just taking the pan back off, sealing it up again and retorquing the pan bolt be enough?

Actually, I wouldn't touch it unless it gushing out. I have yet to see a high HP/Drag racing rotary oil pan not leak.

Mine doesn't leak, but it's not very high performance.

Yeah, we are going to do some tests on it before we start tearing into it. We had it up on the lift tonight and were looking under it, but couldn't find anything obvious. There was quite a bit of oil under there, but like you said, there always is. There was also some oil fairly high up on the plug wires and near the oil cooler lines, but that could have just been blown around, who knows.

I think the leak is going to be fairly strong. There was quite a bit of oil on the trailer that we used to tow it, and the car never ran while on the trailer. It was pushed on and rolled off.

If you want to reseal it go ahead, and as far as i know you cant change twist with out tearing down the motor. But once twisted it probly wont twist to much more. What i know about you tells me you dont want it leaking. Even if Eric is right!

Also, I found what i broke. It wasn't the axle stub. I stripped off the splines on the driver's side axle where they knuckle slips over it (the part that goes inside the stub). It was just turning free in there. These are the Driveshaft Shop 300M level 5 axles by the way, so i'm pretty surprised that it broke. Good thing they are under warranty. I have pictures on my phone, but i can't find the damned cable. I'll post them tomorrow, but they aren't that exciting.

I can handle a few drops here and there, but anything more and its gotta get fixed. I can't have my FD looking like a POS dripping oil on my friend's driveway when i visit.

I've never heard anyone say........ "Ah damnit, I twisted the ol motor on that run....... now I need a overhaul"
