Semi PP + BP + Big turbo.. Pics
Semi PP + BP + Big turbo.. Pics
last night I stopped by a friend of mine to pickup a set of housings for my Rx3 and I saw this.. It's running a "Trini bridge" + Semi-PP
, mazda seals, Autronic, Rx Parts lower intake, E&J TB and a few other goodies. The owner powered coated everything, even the front cover.. Will walk with my camera next time. I believe it's going to be ready for pan american (2nd gen)
Pics don't do it justice, the powered coat is crazy.. What's even more crazy is the porting combo
Kaboom anyone??
On a side note, the Semi-PP intake is sweet

He said the Semi PP would be machined in the coming week... He held off on machining the PP because the manifold was still in production and didn't want to have any issues, according to him. Now that he got the new manifold and everything line up perfect (bolt holes & port), he will take the housings to have them machined.
Will get some more pics as soon as it's installed

^ Good question... I'll call up Rakesh (engine builder) and ask him if he got the contact info for the intake. I know it's fresh out the casting mold and they were made in small batches
What I like about it is you don't need to modify anything to run semi pp, you just bolt it in

Aaron i didn't know your security clearance was that good? Rakesh is a good friend of mine and my engine builder as well. he is the man behind most of NYC's fastest rotaries, but very humble and avoids the spotlight. i've been privalaged enough to see that motor and the fc its going in (top secret) it should run hard. and btw, i left his place with a couple of the rxparts intakes. pics really don't do them justice. beautiful casting. i'll be running one on my car if it ever comes out of retirement
Hahaha, bro I got an All Access pass to team PR, so that covers me to most of the smaller guys in the NE..
Actually he offered to hook me up with Jeff so I can be the NE distributor for these parts, but I already struck a deal with another friend, so I declined. We haven't open the store yet & already people are calling me to put their parts on insanerotaries.com
*shameless plug*

that is true Ito, but as far as i know nobody has run big boost through that combination. come to think of it untill now, you're the only person i've seen run that port combo. how is the machine doing?
I hear you Ito.
I know you have that combo on spray but this is the first time I saw it on big boost
Roan, how much did your manifold cost?? Seems to me it's a better option than reworking the exsisting manifolds that everyone else uses. This sucker saves a heck of a lot of time & money because you don't need to cut & weld anything.
Ito, are you going to summerslam with your car?

I actually i saw this engine porting combo in PICA's Rx7 in 2006 when he blew his engine and was changing it in the pits.........some of us few got to see the engine on the floor and you can clearly see it was a semi p huge bridge. They were so busy trying to change the engine in less than 30mins and thats what it took to take a snap in the engine he he.Its been around with big turbo setups, but its a fairly new combo being more and more common.I use the semi p's very much on customers cars and my cars.
yeah, i heard about this port combination a few years ago, but i had never seen one until about 2006-07, then i saw a Japanese advertisement/magazine with a photo of one. shortly afterwards i saw Ito's pics of his, which were more detailed. i became inspired ...
that said, your friend's engine is beautiful and it's bound to make good numbers when everything is tuned.

first off the JW casting is terible, and the flanges are not true. they need to machined flat on every one i've seen.
secondly, the JW manifold is too tall and requires either cutting the hood or cutting out a portion of the manifold and rewelding it. (lots of fun with that pourous casting)
thirdly, the JW does not have all 7 of the mounting holes needed to properly secure it to an engine. the center iron bolt hole is left out of the JW casting. when running big boost through them they DO leak and if you're lucky, spray pressurised methanol all over your engine and turbo.

lastly, the work involved in modifying one for semi-perif, (assuming you already spent the 3 hours to cut, shorten, and re-weld it) is an honest 5-6 hours by an experienced machinist or welder. even after paying someone to do this, you are not likely to get semi perif runners that are equal length, equal size (in height, width or volume), or properly angled and aligned to the ports in your housings.
so its your choice, spend the $250 on a JW then spend 8-10 hours of your own time or pay a machinist $500 to modify it and end up with a poorly casted, chop and weld job of a manifold that might flow somewhat evenly, but will probably still leak and cause your car to burn, unless you paid the machinist to also modify your center engine plate for a seventh bolt below the intake port (not optimal spot).
did i mention you newly modified $750-$900 JW lower manifold still won't come close to matching the quality of the one i paid $450 for? your choice, i already made mine

You, sir have clearly never seen a J&W manifold up close or tried to install one.

I must have gotten lucky with the two JW's that I've had. They're required no modification, seal perfectly and had no clearance issues.
$150 for the JW intake + $150 to add the extra ports. $300 total aint bad.
as for the sealing issues, i urge you to talk to the guys who have run big boost through them. PM them if you don't feel comfortable asking in public. i'm only trying to prevent you and others from having ax expensive accident.
and as for the port mods, maybe machinists work cheaper in IL... can you share some pics of your $150 semi perif mod that you have had done?
Eric, I'm glad that you haven't had any issues yet. the height modifications i was refering to were for second and third gens, sorry i wasn't more clear.

I never heard Allen (13B-RX3) or turbor1 mentioning anything problems with it so I just assumed it was a quality part.
did you send those PMs out yet?
Does the extra bolt hole make them super harder (more hours involved) to cast? Is that why they cost twice as much? I just kinda figured they got made the same way as a JW, therefore they should cost about the same. I suppose my logic could be flawed.
I guess different strokes for different folks... I took my JW to get modified and it got messed up because it didn't have enough material between the runners to add the 7th bolt :-(
Roan you should ask Jeffery to bring some parts to Summer Slam, or maybe you can walk with your intake so I can get some comparison shots next to my JW? I've seen it in person and I know it's a better design

Better yet, to the Pan Ams

You know dem'people DO use those intakes
+1
why is it twice as much?
