Question on data logging?

Is there a way to data log without having to connect to the PFC/ data logic? Here's what I have to do before each pass.

I try not to run the car until they call me up to burn out box. So once I start my car I have to get my lap top to connect to data logic, then start a log. Sounds easy enough but sometimes it takes me
A minute or so and I feel rushed.

Is there a way to wire the ecu or datalogit to log even if car is off and continue once turned on? Or another set up without changing ecu? I would like to have less to worry about before a run.

Keep the ECU powered at all times. Cut the fuel pump or ignition to turn the engine off.

Any draw backs you can think of? I would think the best way would be to run direct power to ecu, then just a kill switch on pumps? I would need a kill switch on that power feed also to be able to power off to save battery?

What about just direct power to datalogit, then I could have the pc and data logic linked before key is on or does it need to connect to PFC inline also to work?

I guess I might just run a parallel power feed to the ECU through a second relay. That way you could turn the key off and the fuel pumps and ignition will die, which will kill the engine but you could select to leave the ECU powered when the key is turned off. Flip this ECU switch on-off at your desire at the track. The ECU is only going to draw milliamps, and you'd only want it on all the time while you're in the staging lanes, so I doubt battery draw is going to be any issue at all. Once the pass is complete you can toggle the bypass relay off so that the ECU shuts down with everything else when the key is turned off. Will probably want a diode in that bypass line to ensure you don't backfeed power back through everything else so that the car won't shut down when you do turn the key off.

Or you could upgrade to an ECU with automated onboard logging. $5 relay / $1500 ECU...easy decision right?
