No. I never pulled the exhaust housing off to inspect, just visual look from rear and thought it was good. Glad I didnt pull it apart as I would have never ran it and bought a new one instead of beating on it for another 2 years!

Believe it or not power is the same with those bite marks.

The balencing gets screwed and eventually your turbo would fail.

Yeah. I would have thought the loss in area surface would yield to to spool a tad quicker but that would make any differance on the track since its always in boost.

Just a thought but could the 2-step have added to the damage? I have heard this before but never saw pics or explained what the 2 step effects on the turbo?

Pretty sure I will just do another 4094. I was really pleased with the last outing with the car so dont want to make any changes yet.

Woot! Just found out Garrett's exchange program for the 4094r is only $639! Damage wheel is ok.

Mike, my guess is that it ate a rock or small metal piece like a nut.

I have been running over 1050ºC and the inconel turbine wheel looks great.
The turbine housing unfortunately hasn't fare as well. Heavy cracks and scale.

Barry, I know I passed a seal thru this turbo 2 years ago. I was running the Atkins seals and car started to detenate chipping away at the seal. When Ray Wilson came to tune my new motor he told me that he was 100% sure there would be damage on the wheel if I took it apart to check.

I know you like busting my ***** for not running a filter...

apex seals and turbine wheels spinning over 100k rpm is not a good combination..

sucking a rock in would destroy the comp wheel, have to go thru the comp housing, thru intercooler, thru engine, then make it's way to the turbine wheel. Highly unlikely that your turbine was damaged from anything that was sucked in.. It was damaged from what was spit out (apex).

No Mike,

I just meant that something with light mass had ping-ponged the blades multiple times till it had room to escape.

The usual suspect is an apex seal.

yup, this is why i always recommend pulling the housing..... you wouldnt believe the number of classifieds posts where guys are selling supposedly 'used but good shape' turbos that end up having fragged turbine wheels.

So you wanna give me a ride in this thing at DGRR this year or what ?

Barry, I was a bit surprised at the amount of damage to the wheel .... On ever blade. I didn't loose but a small section of the seal and found most of it on top of the waste gate.

As Enzo mentioned a rock would have Hurt the comp wheel which was perfect.

You got it Rich. I will bring some gas along and maybe some tires. I never had it out on kill mode with street tires.
