maching rotors

I have a complete Renesis rotating assembly that im going to use on my Peripheral exhaust motor. And im going to be using the one piece carbon seals from mazdatrix since the car will be all motor. can i take the rotors to any machine shop and have them mill out the apex seal groove to fit? or is this not something any machinist can do? and i need to send it to a capable rotary oriented shop with machining skills???

You have to send it to a shop that is familiar with it...
A regular machine shop can make this go bad really quick...

+1, take it to a reputable shop. And just for your info. Those carbon seals from Mazdatrix are made by Racing beat. Many products from Mazdatrix are made from Racing beat so you might want to check the RB website to compare prices.

Get them EDM wire cut.....machining them sometimes isn't as accurate.

I've done a set of Renesis rotors to accept the older 2mm carbon seals. EDM wire cutting was bang on, no problems.

I dont have a clue how you would lathe a straight slot LOL.

Usually people machine the rotor groove with an endmill in a milling machine, when your machining a 2mm wide groove 6-7mm deep (I think its roughly 6-7mm deep) The tip can wonder slightly sometimes giving you a 2.2-2.4mm wide groove, it may measure 2mm right at the tip, but it might not be the same the entire depth.

Extremely precise way of cutting metal.

I remember when i first started welding i felt this same way. Then i went to school, got certified, and theres nothing i cant weld now. Cant wait to feel the same way about machine work!

Actually you can cut a straight slot on a lathe. You hold the cutter in the chuck and put the workpiece on the tool post. You could also use the tailstock and a broaching tool. Neither is very efficient but it can be done in a pinch.
